Prompt: Why Frances doesn't like pirates, ninjas, and vampires
Characters: Beau Broke and Frances J. Worthington III
Wordcount: 100
Warnings: none
Beau had rambled on about the movie for what seemed like an hour. He had recapped the scenes, and even quoted the quotes.
It was just so... common. It was an amusement of the drooling, sweating, uncultured masses.
Frances was better than that.
“So, yeah… how about you? What did you think of it?”
“It was… interesting.”
Beau laughed. “You hated it, didn’t you?”
“Yes.”
“But it had pirates. Everyone loves pirates.”
Frances lifted his brows. “Well, maybe that’s the problem.”
Beau leaned back, carelessly crossing his arms. “Don’t take this the wrong way, Frances… but you’re such a snob.”

Date: 2008-07-21 06:22 pm (UTC)Beau is not the type of person to do that. He's more of a "call you out on your shit" kind of guy, once he gets to know you, which is probably a little jarring to Frances at first.

Date: 2008-07-21 06:21 pm (UTC)Yes, that includes the Johnny Depp too-much-eyeliner ones.
Or "interview" vampires.
Or crouching/hidden ninjas.

Date: 2008-07-21 06:27 pm (UTC)Frances is one of those contrary sorts that dislikes anything that's too popular with the masses. He's too educated in the finer things in life to be able to really enjoy a "Hollywood" movie. Or well... he just doesn't usually give those things a chance.

Date: 2008-07-21 06:32 pm (UTC)Now if I like something, and it becomes popular that's fine. But bandwagon jumping? I'm more apt to jump OFF a bandwangon than onto on. (my wife is contrary, too--contrary, what a good word).
But my contrariness is not born of being refined. I'm as trashy as they come. I just don't like crowds.

Date: 2008-07-21 09:30 pm (UTC)CBS had a vampire show on earlier this year and it was SO bad you couldn't even watch it to make fun of it. That's bad. (surprise, surprise, it was cancelled)

Date: 2008-07-21 09:32 pm (UTC)But it seems appropriate for him to be a movie snob. I bet he's a book and music snob, too. I'm willing to bet he's never cracked open a Stephen King, and that he believes in the superiority of classical over rock (though he'd be careful not to mention such views to Edie).
However, I'll also wager that being around Beau will loosen him up a bit. They'll both benefit from each other's company... Beau will gain some sophistication and Frances will loosen that silk tie a notch more. :)

But anyway, back to the drabble: NOT everybody likes pirates, Beau- I sure don't! I really don't get the hype about them and movies like Pirates of the Carribean.
Something tells me I would get along with Frances very well, because lately I haven't liked anything that the masses have been after: I haven't watched a new movie in the movie theater for years actually, prefer the classics to popular books, and am a huge classical music (well, music from the early 1900s and earlier like the baroque and the romantic period, which some non music nerds would consider classical anyway when they're totally different) buff.
*sigh* It's hard finding like-minded people.

Date: 2008-07-22 01:44 am (UTC)Heh, when I got to the cinema on Sundays, I often look for a film created for the "amusement of the drooling, sweating, uncultured masses." You know, full of special effects or silly pink romance. In México, we call that kind of movies "Popcorn" (Palomera) or "Sunday" (Dominguera) Movies and are perfect to relax and just have a couple hours of mindless fun.
Then again, I've never understood the big deal with vampires and pirates. The Pirates of the Caribean trilogy bored me and you don't want to hear me rant about the Twilight books. So I guess deep inside I'm a snob just like dear Frances.
I really liked the drabble. You can see more proof of how those two complement each other ^^. Even as friends I'm sure they'll learn a lot about their respective worlds.
(BTW, Did Frances and Beau went to see ARRRR!? ;) )

Date: 2008-07-22 07:58 am (UTC)I like vampires, ninjas, and pirates only if its in a trashy/hot novel.

Date: 2008-07-23 08:49 am (UTC)But Francis and Beau make such a good pair, it's so good to see them together. They are meant to be together. Yeah, unless you won't make any twist in the story. ;)

Date: 2008-08-17 04:07 am (UTC)It can be quite weird at times.
Date: 2009-07-10 12:21 am (UTC)It means chopping people up into pieces and throwing said bits overboard.
