Simstorytellers Challenge 007: Dr. Gone
Jul. 4th, 2008 01:05 amThis takes place a little after chapter 26, but the events are all separate, so I'm going to post it now, out of order, just to get it done before the challenge is a distant memory. I really wish I knew of some easy way to include an mp3 file here, so you can hear the song, since it's not a very commonly known one. Oh well. There's a description of the song given in the text, at least. Part of the lyrics are included at the end.
CHALLENGE 007: Song Lyrics

Word/pic limit: 1000 word/10 pic
Expiration: July 1, 2008 (better late than never)

And now for something completely different... these drabbles introduce some new original characters (well, one is recycled - thank you for sharing her,
simgaroop. I hope you don't mind that I retained her name. It was appropriate and I've always really liked it). This will be relevant to Strangtown, Here We Come, and you may be able to guess the connection, based on the names. I've been playing with Veronaville, to get it up to the same point in time as Strangetown. Most of this stuff will be very much in the background, but it will have an impact on Strangetown in several ways.
The prompts were taken from the list at
simstorytellers.
Characters: Lysander Winterpoem, Hippolyta and Helena Summerdream
Prompts: Perfect and Carelessly
Word count: 200 (100 each)
Pic count: 4 (2 each)
Warning: It's a little violent.
( Perfect and Carelessly )

Short story: A message from Johnny Smith
Jun. 11th, 2008 10:27 pmI was doing a little work on the next chapter, and then this short little thing jumped into my head, so I just churned it out. Full disclosure (and possibly too much information): I thought of it while having to unclog the toilet. Isn't it nice to have sims there to occupy your mind while dealing with the more unpleasant necessities of life? Anyway, Johnny feels my pain. I can always feel better knowing that Johnny is there to arch a brow on my behalf.
( It's a little message from Johnny Smith. )

To get myself into working on the next chapter, I decided to do a couple of the weekly drabbles from the list at Sim Storytellers.
( They are a little spoilery, so you've been warned... )

Well, I almost completely forgot about this challenge, and that would have been simply unacceptable, since it was so tailor-made for the leading lady and lads of my Strangetown story. This short piece is a little reflection on their friendship, from all three points of view, and can be considered to take place at this exact point in the story, even though they don't directly address the events of chapter twenty-five.
I also wanted to thank everyone for their feedback on the last chapter. I really appreciate it. I need to respond to the rest of the comments (and all of the back-comments on other chapters - I'm really falling down on my job here). I've been a bit out of it lately, but I'm trying to get my focus back.
Now, on to the challenge entry...

( But odd as it may be, without my 1 and 2 where would there be, my 3... )

Here's another set of Strangetown drabbles that I created for my drabble writing group. Most of these have already surfaced in a chapter in some form, and a couple of them (Sick and Balance), are scenes that probably won't be shown in the story, but they're still typical of the characters. They can be considered to have happened off-camera.
Challenge 004: Drabble+: Blame
Apr. 27th, 2008 10:57 amHere's my entry for this week's challenge from the
simstorytellers community. It was another drabble+ this time, and the prompt word was blame. This might end up as the opening to the next update, or it might remain separate. I haven't decided yet. I had another opener in mind, but this might work too. Either way, it gives a little more of Johnny's experience with the abduction than I had intended to get into right away. All will be revealed eventually, but it won't be out in the open for a while. What that mostly means is that Johnny may tell someone about it, but as readers, you won't be privy to all of the details.

Short story: Strange Bedfellows
Apr. 20th, 2008 06:47 pmHere's something a little different. This (very) short story was inspired by the Kitchen and Bath Interior Design Stuff Pack. I entered one of the lots that is included with the SP, the Romantic Retreat, to test out some of the new content, and this story idea just jumped into my brain. It can be considered to be a part of the story world of Strangetown, here we come.

“Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows." - Trinculo, in The Tempest by William Shakespeare
( A little Kitchen and Bath fable (without the moral lesson)... )

Challenge 002: Drabble+: Death
Apr. 9th, 2008 08:44 pmHere's my response to the current challenge over at
simstorytellers . I thought I would post this now, since it's based on the Strangetown, Here We Come, and I won't be able to post the next chapter until Sunday at the earliest. I'm heading out of town tomorrow evening for a long weekend. This drabble+ (slightly longer than a regular drabble, which is exactly 100 words) is related to the next couple of chapters in the story, and is thus a slight spoiler, but I like to think of it as more of an appetizer. I hope the next installment will follow by early next week.
This week's challenge was to create a 150-200 word drabble+, using a maximum of two in-game pics, with "death" as the prompt.
