Strangetown Extras: The Banana Question

Okay, this is a short, silly thing, inspired by some talk at
cultofrances today about Frances pairings. I thought about the interactions between him and the two guys in his life in my story, who haven't been featured together yet, though I've thought it through quite a bit. It also uses something extracted from Castaway Stories, which gave me an idea. Well, you'll see. ;)

"Oh... hi," Tank said, as he turned the corner into the kitchen.

"I thought it was just you." He meant Frances, but Beau paid this no mind.
"Yup, just us, T-man."
"Tank."
"Yeah, yeah..."
"Beau," Frances warned.
"Okay, I'm sorry... want a banana, Tank?"
"Excuse me?!"

"Yeah, you know... a banana? Delicious fruit... an excellent source of potassium? "
Beau proceeded to suggestively eat the banana, while Tank stood there awkwardly.

"Mmmm... sweet, sweet bananas."

Tank was aghast.
Beau was amused.

Frances was at a loss for words.
Oh dear god, what have I gotten myself into?
"You're sure you don't want any, Tank?" Beau asked, "They're pretty good."
"Umm... No thanks."

"You know, I really like your hair like that, Tank." Beau said, when he finished eating.
"Oh?"
"Yeah, you two sort of look alike now. Like one of those couples that starts to turn into each other after living together for so long."
"We're not a couple."
"Well, you know what I mean."
"Umm, sure. I'm... just going to get myself some mac and cheese here..." He walked over to the cupboard to find a box.
"Nice! Can we have some too?" Beau asked. Frances held his breath, thinking that this was maybe pushing it.

"Uhhh..." Tank paused. "Yeah, sure. Why not?"
Frances let out a sigh of relief.

Date: 2008-11-08 09:59 pm (UTC)Tank grew his hair out! I like it. And this was quite funny. Heehee. Beau is great.

Date: 2008-11-08 10:11 pm (UTC)Yeah, I find Beau extremely fun to write. He so bold and playful, which adds a breath of fresh air to the Tank-Frances dynamic.

Date: 2008-11-09 01:36 am (UTC)I know he looks good in that short, messy hair. Most sims do. But... I really don't see that on Tank. He's all about being neat. It could work, but nahh...
And he'd never have the same hair as Ripp.

Date: 2008-11-08 10:09 pm (UTC)Well, Tank and Beau are bound to run into each other sooner or later, lol! I love it. Poor Tank, though... he's going to be learning a lot. And you know, that's not all bad. ;)
Don't you just love those extracted CS items? I mean... everybody needs bananas!! :D

Date: 2008-11-08 10:16 pm (UTC)Beau quickly makes himself at home at Frances' place, so Tank starts to see a lot of him. It's definitely eye opening. Beau sees how easy it is to make Tank uncomfortable, and uses this to amuse himself. He tends to get away with that sort of thing, though.
And yeah, Tank learns to deal with it, eventually.
Yeah, bananas are a good thing. It's such a staple that was missing from the game.

Date: 2008-11-08 10:20 pm (UTC)I had a feeling that's what was going to happen when you mentioned a banana. I love Frances' reaction.

Date: 2008-11-08 11:09 pm (UTC)Yeah, I figured it was pretty obvious, but in a good, funny way. Sometimes obvious is funny. Frances is like, "OMG, you can't SAY that to Tank!" D:
(Ugh. Me type pretty one day.)

Date: 2008-11-08 10:20 pm (UTC)I really love all the interactions and how awkward Tank is even now and I don't know. Is it weird that the more I see Beau the more I like him, but the more I like Frances/Tank? I don't know why, but I got all smiley when Beau compared them to a couple.
I like Tank's new hair. He's changing! :D

Date: 2008-11-08 11:27 pm (UTC)I'll bet Frances was pleased to hear them described as a couple too. I'm glad this situation is becoming somewhat multi-layered for you, since things are more interesting that way, I think.
Ahh, yes. The hair signifies change. It's my most over-used symbolic device. Haircuts for all!
(And it does look okay on him, doesn't it? Tank looks really good with more stylish makeovers, I find, but it never really suits with character as well for me.)

Date: 2008-11-09 12:52 am (UTC)It's weird. If Tank would have gone for Frances when Frances confessed, I wouldn't have liked it. And if Frances wasn't actively trying to pull away from Tank I wouldn't like it. But something in Frances moving on and finding happiness with Beau, while Tank keeps mulling it all over and has a few jealousy issues (be they completely on a platonic level or not) just twinges something in me. I think I would love the reversal of Tank sort of awkwardly not-really pursuing Frances and Frances being oblivious and Tank being unsure.
Oh I love the hair symbolism. Moreso if it's a really dramatic chopping off of hair. I like that you use it, because it's one of my favorite symobolic-device (STEALING YOUR PHRASE).
Yeah, I've tried changing up Tank's looks in my own game and it's so painful. He just doesn't look like tank anymore if you try and do too much.

Date: 2008-11-09 01:14 am (UTC)Yeah, that's interesting. I think they'll stick together through many ups and downs, and they do have this odd chemistry. Frances does still feel for Tank, and he is protective and sort of jealous about him too (like, the Ripp thing did make him jealous, even if he didn't really want to be with Frances). It's growing into something really interesting for me, and sometimes you need an outsider to barge in and mix things up that way.
Heheh. This is my favourite symobolic-device, even in real life. I have so many hair-related moments in my life. I notice that people do it a lot around breakups and fights, or when starting new phases of their life. It's interesting.
I agree. He's an attractive guy, and he looks good with different, trendier looks, but he loses some of his Tank-ness for me.

Date: 2008-11-08 11:59 pm (UTC)Also, this MADE MY LIFE:
"Yeah, you two sort of look alike now. Like one of those couples that starts to turn into each other after living together for so long."
"We're not a couple."
Poor Tank. xDDD

Date: 2008-11-09 01:01 am (UTC)Frances isn't sure it's a good idea to mix them together. With GOOD REASON.
Heehee. Like it or not, Tank and Frances are a pair, if not a couple. Just wait until Ripp gets a hold of it all. It's Tank and his two gay buddies. XD So much for saying anything about Ripp's antics.

Date: 2008-11-09 12:48 am (UTC)Oh my God, Beau eating the banana. One of the most hilarious story moments ever.
Beau is just...he's winning me over. He's such an awesome kind of asshole. (The good kind of asshole, I promise!)

Aren't all assholes awesome? I don't know... people say characters are assholes like it's a BAD thing, but I love their little hearts. Maybe I just know a lot of jackasses, but these are the types of people you want to hang out with, right? They're never boring.
no subject
Date: 2008-11-09 01:16 am (UTC)You're right, hanging around with assholes is always hilarious. Never a dull moment.
My favorite characters in shows/books/movies are usually the assholes, because you love to hate them. The thing I love about Beau is, he doesn't really care about what people will do and then he knows how to get on your nerves. He's awesome.
no subject
Date: 2008-11-09 01:40 am (UTC)Don't I know it. Most of my favourite people are assholes, at least part of the time. Hell, I'm even an asshole at times.
He does. Beau is a master of calling you out on your shit and making fun of you, but he does it in a way that prevents you from doing anything about it. And somehow, you still like him. It must be enraging. :P

Date: 2008-11-09 01:33 am (UTC)Heheh. I thought about him going after Ripp too. I'm not sure how it would go down. Ripp would either play along or turn tail and retreat, and I'm really not sure which one would really happen.

Date: 2008-11-09 04:43 am (UTC)(This is me finally getting over my shyness and saying that you are awesome and I've recently finished reading all of S,HWC so far, and you've probably changed the way I see some of the sims of Strangetown forever and I absolutely love seeing these little extras and I'm excited about the next chapter [whenever you put it out, no pressure and all that, but asdfghjkl; I love your story] and this is a horrible run-on sentence and I'll stop now. Because I probably seem insane or something. Sorry.)

Date: 2008-11-10 10:44 pm (UTC)LOL! Honestly, sometimes I'm not sure if Beau is interested in Frances or if he's just playing matchmaker for Tank (and Frances).
Maybe he wants a threesome. Or he's just an asshole who loves to tease Tank, as someone above said. Who knows?!
I love your version of Beau. He's so open and cheerful, just what someone as "tight" (is that the correct term?) like Frances needs (perhaps Tank too!).
