Strangetown Extras: The Banana Question

Okay, this is a short, silly thing, inspired by some talk at
cultofrances today about Frances pairings. I thought about the interactions between him and the two guys in his life in my story, who haven't been featured together yet, though I've thought it through quite a bit. It also uses something extracted from Castaway Stories, which gave me an idea. Well, you'll see. ;)

"Oh... hi," Tank said, as he turned the corner into the kitchen.

"I thought it was just you." He meant Frances, but Beau paid this no mind.
"Yup, just us, T-man."
"Tank."
"Yeah, yeah..."
"Beau," Frances warned.
"Okay, I'm sorry... want a banana, Tank?"
"Excuse me?!"

"Yeah, you know... a banana? Delicious fruit... an excellent source of potassium? "
Beau proceeded to suggestively eat the banana, while Tank stood there awkwardly.

"Mmmm... sweet, sweet bananas."

Tank was aghast.
Beau was amused.

Frances was at a loss for words.
Oh dear god, what have I gotten myself into?
"You're sure you don't want any, Tank?" Beau asked, "They're pretty good."
"Umm... No thanks."

"You know, I really like your hair like that, Tank." Beau said, when he finished eating.
"Oh?"
"Yeah, you two sort of look alike now. Like one of those couples that starts to turn into each other after living together for so long."
"We're not a couple."
"Well, you know what I mean."
"Umm, sure. I'm... just going to get myself some mac and cheese here..." He walked over to the cupboard to find a box.
"Nice! Can we have some too?" Beau asked. Frances held his breath, thinking that this was maybe pushing it.

"Uhhh..." Tank paused. "Yeah, sure. Why not?"
Frances let out a sigh of relief.

Date: 2008-11-08 10:20 pm (UTC)I really love all the interactions and how awkward Tank is even now and I don't know. Is it weird that the more I see Beau the more I like him, but the more I like Frances/Tank? I don't know why, but I got all smiley when Beau compared them to a couple.
I like Tank's new hair. He's changing! :D

Date: 2008-11-08 11:27 pm (UTC)I'll bet Frances was pleased to hear them described as a couple too. I'm glad this situation is becoming somewhat multi-layered for you, since things are more interesting that way, I think.
Ahh, yes. The hair signifies change. It's my most over-used symbolic device. Haircuts for all!
(And it does look okay on him, doesn't it? Tank looks really good with more stylish makeovers, I find, but it never really suits with character as well for me.)

Date: 2008-11-09 12:52 am (UTC)It's weird. If Tank would have gone for Frances when Frances confessed, I wouldn't have liked it. And if Frances wasn't actively trying to pull away from Tank I wouldn't like it. But something in Frances moving on and finding happiness with Beau, while Tank keeps mulling it all over and has a few jealousy issues (be they completely on a platonic level or not) just twinges something in me. I think I would love the reversal of Tank sort of awkwardly not-really pursuing Frances and Frances being oblivious and Tank being unsure.
Oh I love the hair symbolism. Moreso if it's a really dramatic chopping off of hair. I like that you use it, because it's one of my favorite symobolic-device (STEALING YOUR PHRASE).
Yeah, I've tried changing up Tank's looks in my own game and it's so painful. He just doesn't look like tank anymore if you try and do too much.

Date: 2008-11-09 01:14 am (UTC)Yeah, that's interesting. I think they'll stick together through many ups and downs, and they do have this odd chemistry. Frances does still feel for Tank, and he is protective and sort of jealous about him too (like, the Ripp thing did make him jealous, even if he didn't really want to be with Frances). It's growing into something really interesting for me, and sometimes you need an outsider to barge in and mix things up that way.
Heheh. This is my favourite symobolic-device, even in real life. I have so many hair-related moments in my life. I notice that people do it a lot around breakups and fights, or when starting new phases of their life. It's interesting.
I agree. He's an attractive guy, and he looks good with different, trendier looks, but he loses some of his Tank-ness for me.
