It's always a happy day for me when
kinemortophobia posts a new creation, and I've been eagerly awaiting part two of her easy/lucky/free recolours of Sarhra's eyes, so I was very pleased to see them posted today.

I was very excited about these, since Phobia had shown some previews of her work in progress, and I really liked her new recolours. She was even kind enough to create a dark blue tailored specifically to my tastes. I was so very excited to see them that I went right ahead and plonked 'em down on the Maxis sclera and made 'em into defaults.
Making defaults was easier than I thought it would be, even though I had a little trouble setting up the DDS utilities correctly. It was nothing that a little research couldn't fix, and I soon got it to work. Trust me... if I can do it, you can do it. I followed this tutorial at MATY.
So let's see these new defaults in action, shall we?

Phobia made this dark blue eye especially for me, and for Ripp. *beams* That's pretty sweet. I wanted it to be quite dark, and not too vibrant. Sort of a denim-y blue, like Lyran's dark blue. It looks more grey in this shot, because of the lighting, I now realize, but it's just about perfect.
Thank you, Phobia! That's exactly what I wanted. I love it.

The green I chose looks pretty good on Johnny...

And also Phi.
If anything, I might consider making contacts for Johnny again, just to fine tune his colour, but it's probably not necessary (I do intend to make the really dark grey eyes into contacts for Nervous, though - they're almost black, and I think it would work well on him).

As you can see, Phi is busying catching dinner.
And what are the boys doing?

Hula dancing in the kitchen. Yup, they're pretty useless.
Now, what about those other eye colours...

I didn't even need to summon Vidcund in to take a look at his eyes, because Ripp was stupid enough to spy on him at the telescope (no big surprise there). As usual, Vidcund wasted no time in arriving at the scene to lay into the peeping tom.
Ooops... It seems like I messed up and made grey the default for the light blue eyes. I'll have to fix that.

Vidcund: And ANOTHER thing...
Ripp: *sobs*
Vidcund: Ah, man... are you crying? Geez...
Ripp: No! I'm not... *bawls*

Vidcund: Umm, sorry... I'll just be leaving now. *thinks* That boy's not right.

Here's the grey on Zoe (though we already saw it on Vidcund too). It's the same one I tested before.

And the brown on Jaxy. I like this one quite a bit. It's very dark and rich.
So, there you go. Changing the sclera made them work so much better for me. I'm pretty sure I'll be switching over to these at some point. Right now, I still have some shots with Lyran's eyes that I want to use, so I'm going to wait a little. I want to avoid mixing the two types in one update, if I can help it.
There's also an interesting new alien eye set in this upload, and I downloaded it to try out, then forgot to take a shot of it. I'll test it out later. I'm pretty fond of Pixel's alien eyes, but I'm open to trying out a new default. Can't hurt to try it, right?

Date: 2008-11-25 07:34 pm (UTC)It would be great to have alien eyes that match the set exactly. Pixel_and_Bean's eyes are amazing though.

Date: 2008-11-25 07:52 pm (UTC)Ripp looks adorable! And Zoey does too. AND Johnny! The eyes look great. The alien one with the grey in the middle is VERY interesting, I'm TOTALLY testing it out later.

Date: 2008-11-26 01:47 am (UTC)As far as I know, Lyran uses the Maxis sclera, though, doesn't she?
I really like that alien eye. I just took a look at it in Body Shop, and it does look cool. I really might make the switch.

Date: 2008-11-26 04:46 am (UTC)I'm not sure. I thought she did.
I looked at it, but I didn't really like it much. I might have to look at it more though.

Date: 2008-11-25 08:04 pm (UTC)Aw, Vid with grey eyes! *squeezes* Reminds me of a couple (or more, lol) sons I've seen of his with grey eyes throughout my games. ;)

Date: 2008-11-25 08:52 pm (UTC)Normally, I don't notice things like subtle differences in eyes but THESE I can see the difference with. The brown is really yummy looking (great, now I want chocolate).

Date: 2008-11-25 10:14 pm (UTC)(I should post about some of my dilemmas on my Sims LJ, maybe. And maybe share the present non-default version of my very own alien skintone blend, although it has fairly obvious pattern seams at the neck (because the original skintone I used to give the pattern to the blend had them and I cannot fix that kind of thing).)

Date: 2008-11-26 03:25 am (UTC)But i peeked through her post early (i like to sneak through your friendslist and her posts are always so shiny and full of colors!) so i did get to see 'em all pretty-like, but it's a shame that i can't really see the prettiness put on my faves.
ah well. :3

Date: 2008-11-30 07:44 am (UTC)I am glad you're happy with the dark blue and dark brown as those were the most worrisome for me as really dark colors are difficult to make without making them muddy. They look really great on the Maxis sclera and I'm looking forward to any future sclera edits anyone else cooks up. Myself, I plan on editing them with a slightly less vein-y edit of Rensim's Confutatis sclera as I actually like the shading on it, but that is personal preference of course. ;)

Date: 2008-12-02 01:02 pm (UTC)I'm actually going to use the slightly lighter blue (Old Soul Song), after testing them out for a while. It still reads as pretty dark in the game, and it's a little punchier. My default set now includes Old Soul Song, Sunrise Sunset, Weather Reports, Love is Real, and Spent on Rainy Days. I'll probably do another post about it, and my plans for also using more of the custom geneticized eyes. I'm going to have more than one version of most colours, I think. For now, they're just contacts, but I'm going to edit them in SimPE (yeah, I'm in it for the long haul).
Thanks again for doing these. It's great to have so many lovely colours to choose from. :)
