I've been a fan of Sarhra's eyes for a while now (me and you and your grandma too, it seems, but they really are quite lovely things), and I loved Phobia's recolours so much I tested them out in my game, but the shaded scleras just look wrong on my sims. I must have the cartoon look. I simply must. Enter
without_pith and her edited version to include a whiter (though still somewhat realistic) sclera, taken from Anva's Legacy Eyes set. (Phew. What a mouthful.) This was just a nearly perfect wish fulfillment for me, so I had to give 'em a whirl.

Phi seems to like them... or is there something else?

Hmmm, yes... I see. She's cheering for Ripp's mad skillz on the guitar.

Of course he's going to show off for her. *grin* I'll bet he just wants her to throw some panties at the stage.
Let's see how the eyes measure up to some movement with Mr. Expressive.

Not bad at all. I'd still prefer these on the straight-up Maxis sclera. When it comes down to it, I just want the blindingly white cartoon eyes, but these are pretty acceptably cartoony too. (Maybe I could get permission to make the edit to the Maxis sclera myself.)
I like this blue (I chose True Blue), but I'd prefer it a little less vibrant. Lyran's hue is just about spot-on for me. I love how it's sort of denim-y. I wish there were more options in the blue set. Purple just isn't dark blue in my books, so there are only 3 to choose from, compared to 5 in the other categories. But don't get me wrong... having ANY options to pick and choose from is AMAZING. I nearly creamed my jeans over the choice here.

Here's the shaded sclera version for comparison. Some people like it, but it's not for me. It just looks so wrong in my game, making my sims strangers to me.
Now for the rest of the colours...

Well, Johnny's are the same as Phi's but they look pretty good on him. This green, Classic Cars, is deep and closer to a true green than Lyran's (which is too olive, though I like it on some non-alien sims). I like the Arienette eyes too. There are a lot of good greens.

Heheh. He's a smooth operator, that Johnny Smith.

Here's grey (of course it's Frances - DUH). I really like how pale Spent On Rainy Days is. It's exactly how I want the grey eyes. A+

None of the browns were quite dark enough for me (I like 'em really dark) and I wish this one was a slightly warmer brown, but I do like it all the same. My pick was From a Balance Beam, but on second examination, I think I prefer Terenza and Tomas, even though it's lighter. It has more depth.

Excuse the tiny eyes, but I do believe Vidcund is the only Strangetown sim with light blue eyes, even with the LFT students included. Those blue eyes are rare. Anyway, if you can see them, these are the A Perfect Sonnet eyes. They're lovely and they have a hint of hazel around the pupil. This looks a lot like my real eye colour, so I guess I'm biased, but I like them very much.
Oh, and LOL at the hairstyle. I must have accidentally deleted that hair when I was rearranging and cleaning up my hair downloads. Lookin' good, Vid, lookin' good... *whispers behind his back* he looks like mutton dressed as lamb.
So, yeah... what do you think? If I do change them, it won't be for a while, since I've already shot a lot of pics for upcoming chapters and I don't want any jarring continuity errors. That gives me lots of time to make up my mind. I'm still pretty into Lyran's eyes, though, and she does have all those contacts... *sigh* Decisions, decisions...
Either way, this is a nice option for those of us who like things on the cartoony side. They're lovely eyes and they fit in with the Maxis stuff quite well.

Date: 2008-10-24 12:51 am (UTC)They fit your style so well. Not super-realistic but more realistic than the Maxis eyes. They make your characters look so much better.

Date: 2008-10-24 01:16 am (UTC)Those eyes look pretty nice! I also have Phobia's eyes (I love all the crazy and bright colors, that's why I changed to icnitos after using Lyran's for so long) but I agree that the little shadow on the top looks a bit odd when the sims makes an extremely cartoony face (it looks as if it just had a couple holes instead of eyes).
Nonetheless, as they are they look better than the tons of Realistic eyes I've found that look awesome in the preview but for some reason my sims look dead with them. Must be the "glassy" quality, I've no idea.
Your edits suit your characters very well. I agree it'd be nicer if the brown was warmer, though. And in case you miss Lyran's contacts, those are pretty easy to make too :). I've made a few for personal use (based on Rensim eyes, so I can't upload them as per her TOS :S) and it takes five minutes tops.

Date: 2008-10-24 01:32 am (UTC)It's hard to find just the perfect blue for Ripp's eyes, isn't it? They are as expressive as ever, so I recommend using them if you do switch defaults.

Date: 2008-10-24 02:30 am (UTC)Anyway, yes... I absolutely can not like the rounded sclera in my game. In other people's games it looks fine. Even in your picture there in your game it looks fine to me. But in my game it freaks me out.
I have some awesome dark-dark brown eyes that I just love. Well, they're the ones my Penny, Worth, and Hope Less have. They're by icnitos on MTS2 and they are the darkest brown here: http://linna.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=243701

Date: 2008-10-24 02:57 am (UTC)I guess Vidcund is going through a mid-life crisis..stealing his nephew's old teenager haircut. Maybe he's trying to look "hip" for Bottom. ~hur hur hur~

Date: 2008-10-24 10:00 pm (UTC)I noticed the lack of dark blue defaults, too. I personally like the true blue shade but I can see why people would prefer a less saturated blue. I might try my hand at some recolors and amend my post in the future.

Date: 2008-10-25 03:04 am (UTC)I'm such an enormous fan of "Strangetown, Here We Come" so I was thrilled when you friended me. It's honestly the best sim story I have read. You've given the characters an amazing amount of depth and humanity while maintaining the fun and vibrant atmosphere I associate with the game.
So thank you! For existing and for writing and for doing all that other good stuff.

Date: 2008-10-25 12:19 pm (UTC)Frances's shade of grey eyes are perfect.
Vidcunds eyes are cool too. Sometimes light blue and grey can look quite similar. This set of eyes are in a class of its own.
Phi's and Johnny's eyes are perfect. This particular green compliments their complexion well. It is only one set i'm looking at right?
Jaxy's eyes are too muddy. It's hard to find the right brown that is still cartoony. I like ninny's from MTS2, but they may not be cartoony enough for you.
Ripp's eyes are very nice, but it does change him some how. We can't be having that right? lol

Date: 2008-11-03 02:04 pm (UTC)Yeah, I love very pale eyes for light blue and grey, and I suppose it has a lot to do with the fact that my own eyes are very pale (though I'm thinking of using a very dark steel grey on Nervous Subject - it would be nice to have both options, like with the blues). I also like the light and gark blues to be really different. Lyran's are a little too much alike.
