Okay, I'm not going to freak out just yet, but when I click on the FT icon, I get this message:
Failed to enumerate any DirectX 9 compatible adapters in the system! (I just love the playful exclaimation point there. *eye roll*)
Please make sure you have a DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest manufacturer provided driver.
The application will now terminate.
By graphics adapter, they're referring to my graphics card, right? (Or am I way off?) That shouldn't have changed, since my card is still in there, and I did download the latest driver. Now, the computer has been reset to square one, and this graphics card was added later, so I wonder if I need to change the settings so it's recognized, maybe. I have no idea what I need to do. I'm also using a no-cd crack to avoid SecurRom, so I wonder if that's the problem. Ugh. I guess I need to do some research here, or make another tech. call.
If anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Date: 2008-06-28 08:58 pm (UTC)I think it's a program like shockwave, where you need it to run certain programs. I'm pretty sure it's free and won't hurt your comp. I think I have it. :P

Date: 2008-06-28 09:24 pm (UTC)If not, I was going to suggest that it's a secur-rom issue. I got the same error message with my Castaways disc on my other computer.
Hopefully it's not though, and it's easy to fix. *crosses fingers*

Date: 2008-06-29 01:06 am (UTC)I would imagine that SecurRom was wiped out when I recovered my system, so I think I'm safe there. I won't be installing any other games without a no-cd crack. Even that Spore Creature Creator demo had SecurRom on it.
Now, I just need to check my neighbourhood backups...

Date: 2008-06-28 09:31 pm (UTC)Just make sure you remove your neighborhoods and saved sims before you do that so it doesn't delete them on you.

Date: 2008-06-29 01:08 am (UTC)Now, it's all set up again, and I've put my neighbourhoods back in, and I'm going to load them up to see if everything is fine. I'm feeling hopeful.

Date: 2008-06-28 11:43 pm (UTC)The only advice I had was you might need an older version of a driver (someone already mentioned that).
*please, please, please* (that's really what I chant, with fingers crossed, when I install new stuff--I also lovingly pat my cpu and tell him he's a good boy and I love him very much--have you tried that?)

Date: 2008-06-29 01:14 am (UTC)You should see the foldering system I have going now. It's very obsessive. Things get filed by category, then creator. So, for example, the hula mod is now under downloads/machinima/squinge. Since I'm doing this from the beginning, it's not so hard, and I'll never forget where I got something. Aren't you proud of me?
Now, to do my sim chant while I test out the hoods... *please, please, please*

Date: 2008-06-29 01:18 am (UTC)I'm obsessive with my backups. I keep a cd backup of each hood AND (since the pops put a second hard drive in my machine) I have the whole sims 2 thing (yes, that huge thing) backed up there. (oh and I save my dl folder to disk, too)
