Strangetown extras: Another painting recolour

So, I recoloured another painting, and I tried one of the poster formats this time. I even put some text on the poster, using this great simlish font by SIMale on MTS2. To show off the results, I've put together a little scene with Johnny and Ripp.

Ripp: So where is this present, Johnny?

Johnny: It's in your bedroom.

Ripp: I can't believe you bought me a present. Is it because I did the dishes?




Johnny: Now, don't get too excited, okay? It's nothing that great.

Ripp: Just show me, already!




Johnny: Okay. Here it is!

Ripp: Oh my god! It's awesome! Where did you get this?




Johnny: I just saw it at SimMart. Check out the cheesy lens flare!

Ripp: Check out the rockin' bodies! Fuck, they're hot. So which one would you choose?

Johnny: For what?

Ripp: You're fucking kidding me, right?

Johnny: Oh... right. Well, the one on the left -

Ripp: Angela.

Johnny: Okay, Angela. She seems nice.




Ripp: So you'd do her?

Johnny: Yeah, I guess so. I don't know. I mean, it's completely hypothetical. I have a girlfriend, and why would either of them want to sleep with me, anyway? They're famous actresses! And I don't even know them. What if we had nothing in common?

Ripp: That's so not the point of this game. You're not picking out your future wife, Johnny! You're just supposed to decide which one you want to bump uglies with.

Johnny: Okay, then which one would you pick? I guess you'll have to take the other one -

Ripp: Lilith.

Johnny: Right... Lilith. You'll have to take her, if I already picked Angela.




Ripp: This isn't like picking teams for sports, Johnny. I can pick the same one.

Johnny: Well, that's convenient.

Ripp: What the fuck is that supposed to mean?

Johnny: Nothing. Just convenient... like, I could drop her off with you after we were finished our date.

Ripp: Who says you'd get first crack at her?

Johnny: Ripp, I'm not taking a "crack" at anyone, okay?

Ripp: Besides, why would I pick just one of them, when they come as a sweet matching set?

Johnny: Wasn't that the point of the game?




Ripp: Thanks for the present, John! You're the llama's ass!

You're really making me want to try doing this. But first I'm going to whip out the artists reward objects. gotaluvsims2 recommends it for "family photos".

If you try it, you'll probably get hooked, just like me. I know that I'll end up cranking out a whole mess of these eventually. They're really not that hard to do. Designing the image was all of the work (I use GIMP to do the image editing). After that's done, it's really easy to apply it to the painting template in SimPE.

I haven't tried out the camera reward object much yet, but I should do that too. They appear in little frames, right? That should be great for decorating.

Thanks. I love using those poses from the loading screens, and especially mixing and matching them like this (I assume that maybe you'd get this pose from a married couple that had a falling out?). Lilith is not one to be messed with. She looks like she could kick some serious ass if she wanted to.

You should do it! It's so easy to make these, and a lot of fun. The simlish font is great. I was typing it up in english at first and then remembered seeing that a while back. There are a couple of different styles to choose from. This one is the Sim City Societies version.

Johnny is only eager to share in theory, I think. *wink* Ripp seems more open to the idea in general. (That reminds me... I need to check out your latest update.)

I love it! Love the scene with Johnny and Ripp too. I've said before, I think you "speak" for the sims so much better than I do. I mean, I really hear their personalities coming out in your diologue, where I don't always with mine (my sims tend to just talk like... me... lol!)

Anyway the poster looks awesome! Great job!

I just noticed that out of the three comments on this so far, two look like they have Ripp in their icons. :D I need to upload a pic of Vampire!Ripp from my story to use as mine. :P

Thanks. Now I want to do a whole series of these posters (and band posters too).

My strategy for writing dialogue is to pair up certain characters with people I know, just for the way they speak. For Johnny and Ripp, I have a very clear idea of who they "are" in this sense, so I really enjoy writing them (but the people they are inspired by do not interact at all, so that part of it is where I have to get creative - imagining those character types as best friends). I'm sure that some of the characters I write are more or less me too. Or they go in and out of my voice. It's hard not to do that.

Vampire!Ripp? I have to go check that out! (I have to catch up on your story, period. I'm terrible for that lately.) You should make an icon. Join the Ripp icon party. Pixel made her icon (the same one I'm using) from the pic where Stella is filling Ripp in on the details of alien biology. I love the wide eyes, and the smile that betrays how excited he is. ;)

Thanks! That simlish font is great, since you can actually read it if you make an effort (and knowing what you're looking for helps too), but not too easily. I like custom things that match up with the "sim realism" of the game like that.

He certainly can be. Johnny is a bit too serious (and innocent) for his own good too.

It's funny how Johnny chose Angela. I knew that would be his choice before he indicated so to Ripp. He just seems like an "Angela" type of guy. I should add though, in my game, Angela's the wild child, and Lilith is the angel. *shrug* Appearances are deceiving, I guess.

Not sure what to think of llama's asses though.

Yeah, it's not surprising that Johnny picked the wholesome good girl, is it? Johnny is the Angela and Ripp is the Lilith. (In the game, Angela and Lilith have very similar personalities, anyway, so I'm sure that they could go either way.)

Oh, but llama's ass are wonderful! Or, at least, to be "the llama's ass" is to be the greatest, just like being "the cat's ass" is. I love making expressions more simish by throwing a llama or two in there.

Loved that. And the poster looks professionally done, like an in-game poster, it's amazing! Plus now I SO want Ripp to meet them. I mean something wild has to happen there, right? Somehow Ripp is destined to come face to face with one or both, or maybe he could take a trip to the set of their show or something. That could be hilarious. ;)

Thanks. I was surprised by how legible the simlish font is too. It's great. It's very useful for making things like this for the game, when you don;t want actual english (or any other language, for that matter).

Ripp is not amused by Johnny's tendency to turn everything into an athletic activity (or something otherwise "healthy"). I'm amused by the idea of what sort of game they would play with those teams! *wink*

I can't wait to get Johnny on an actual sports team in the game (come on, InSIM... update for Free Time). He's a soccer man, all the way. Right now, Johnny's sporty behaviour is in the background, and it will be a lot of fun to make it a bigger part of the story (since his LTW is to be a Hall of Famer).

Thanks. No, I really can't stop, now that I have a taste for it. It's just too much fun. And there are so many little details that could be added. Like, one day, if Johnny becomes a famous athlete, maybe he'll have his own poster too. Now THAT will be fun to make.

It's a huge compliment. It's something like calling someone the bee's knees, only cruder. And Ripp just likes the fact that he can tell Johnny that he's the greatest, while still calling him an ass. How perfect, right?

I always enjoy your extras!! The poster is great. I love doing recolors of the artwork. It really has become addictive since I've gotten an artist in my own storyline. Anyway, yours always look so good and add the perfect ambience to the story that you're telling.

Thank you. The extras are fun to do, since I can play with the characters without worrying about it having any relevance to the plot (which is a relief after pondering over it for the chapters).

Angela is wearing whatever she is wearing by default when you start playing at the Pleasant family lot, so I would assume that she's wearing no makeup at all.
