I've been meaning to participate in one of these [livejournal.com profile] sim_scenes challenges for quite some time now, but this is the first time I've been inspired enough to actually give it a go. It's also an opportunity to create a nice, quick story for your viewing entertainment, since I haven't been able to focus enough time or attention to get anywhere with an actual chapter of S,HWC (though I am picking away at it, here and there).

For those who are unfamiliar with the community, one of the rules of this challenge is that each entry must consist of exactly ten images, without any text. It is an exercise in visual storytelling. Like a drabble, this gives an opportunity to hone that specific skill, which is just as essential to sim storytelling as the writing (some might argue more essential). To remain true to the spirit of the challenge, I will offer no explanation at all for this story, and I welcome your feedback. I'm curious to see how well it comes across without any words.

I love it! :D Lyla and Ripp understand each other. Tank's too much like Buzz and Buck's just too young, it's easy to see why Ripp's her favourite. She doesn't look like a very happy housewife, either.

Love how you decorated their house, and that they used to live in the city before Strangetown.

Very nice. With this and the overall story, you make me realize the depth of Ripp's story.

Nice.

You don't need to even know one thing about sims (be it your story or the maxis story) to follow this little story.

This is the tale of Lola Grunt. Every morning is the same; She sees them off, and sees to the houce. Every day. And every day she feels the same, being is simply an onlooker to her own life. The world around her, even down to her very own children, is filled with the unsettling exess of the General - even when he is not here his living incarnate manages to bully the only form of herself in his own generation. Mealtimes are Awkward, because the General doesn't respect any form of taste as being necessary - so he is almost always dissapointed with his meals.. her meals that she has painstakingly brought herself to make, she has made through resenting to face the day and to hide in the shadows. Lola is at a breaking point... but she has Ripp. He is such a sweetheart...

Your pictures are always so lovely, so I was really delighted to see this. :) I love the overhead shot of Lila preparing food and Buck crawling around (reminds me... I should put more ceiling fans in my houses). That and the close-up one of her comforting Ripp.

That was a really nice piece of storytelling. I love the way she seems so on the outside, except when she's with Ripp. Even as a child, he just has that effect on people.

Very nice :) Great pictures and very clear storyline.

I would recommend linking this as a response to the prompt post at sim_scenes as well.

Gorgeous! You really have a talent for storytelling. As well as for decorating houses.

The composition of your pictures is always beautiful - what's you usual method? Do you arrange everything and then take a photo, or do you take lots of pictures and then pick the best?

The 'story' flows really well here even if you come to it cold, though knowing the backstory definitely adds something to it, at least for me. Good stuff :)

Stellar as always. I love it.

(Also: wrap-around sofa! or whatever that's called. My grandparents had one, it looked a lot like that.)

I loved it. Great work definitely got the story across. Though I got something different from her relationship with Rip then others apparently did. Seems more like Lyla is giving Rip the extra comfort and attention he needs since he's more sensitive and the one more neglected by Buzz than Tank seems to be. Not that she inwardly compares Rip to herself and Tank to Buzz. Anyway this was really great.
