I played Sims 3 again for a while this evening and by the end of it was feeling a little, well, sad. Isn't that an odd reaction? I have such a soft heart (or maybe it's just PMS). There are a lot of opinions floating around in my head, and maybe I will post an actual review of the game at some point (I typed up a little first impression already). For now, I'll just say this:

Playing Sims 3 makes me miss Sims 2.

With that in mind, I'm firing up the old game to work on some images for the next update or two. (I do wish Sims 2 could load as quickly as Sims 3 - the speed of the new game makes me realize how bogged down with EP/SPs and cc my game really is.) I'm also thinking of doing an outtakes post, but the sheer amount of images involved keeps me from just doing it. I'm also not feeling very funny at all right now (see above: PMS). Maybe later. For now, I will show you a couple of things I've created for the upcoming chapters. There's one sim and one neighbourhood edit/decoration.

First, the sim. I won't say much about who she is or where she will turn up in the story, but don't you love mismatched eyes? I love these Matched Mismatched Eyes by HystericalParoxysm, because they actually use the textures from your defaults set. This lady actually has custom eyes (the left), and the mismatched eye shows the normal default (replacement) brown. The fake eye is like a contact, and found under either accessories or full-face makeup. I haven't checked to see if it moves yet, but even as a "glass eye" it'll be pretty cool.

I'm also quite fond of how monochromatic she is.

Next, my very successful venture into neighbourhood terrain editing. Note the masterfully submerged spacecraft. I mean, it's not really much, but it's pretty cool, right?

But what happened here?

*cues mysterious music*

Tune in next time for more details...

I guess you missed the Sims 2 because it's basically a different game from sims 3. At least, that's my initial impression from everything I've read so far. And it has at the moment more game options than the Sims 3 Base Game.

I played the Sims 3 for 5 minutes a week or so ago (you can say I was "test driving it") and although the game lagged and made my poor laptop burn (really, it was very hot when I quit the game), I was amazed by how fast it loaded.

I could have my Sims 2 game load THAT fast if I weren't a CC junkie. Oh well, once I move to the US and get a new laptop (I'm selling this one very cheap to my sis), I'll start over with the CC.

I like that new sim. You're right... she's SO orange. Now I wonder why are her eyes mismatched? :).

I love the neighborhood edit too. *Eyes the terrain* Hmmm... that's not ST, of course! Where did these aliens land? *DUN DUN DUUUUN*

There's no doubt at all that it's a very different game. Sims 3 is fun, but it's missing some important elements that Sims 2 brought to the table. Genetics, most importantly. It's still early, but reports seem to indicate that they have gotten worse than Sims 2, and that's pretty sad.

I'm terrible with cc too. You wouldn't really think it, with how Maxis-match I am, but I have... *checks*... 2.59 GB in my downloads folder. And that's compressorizer.

That's why I like to have some less bright red hairs. They match so well to S3 skin. (I won't say anything about the reason behind the eyes, but it might just be for looks.)

No, it's not Strangetown. Do you know which hood it is? ;)

I read that the genetics don't work as they did on the Sims 2. For example, if you create a sim with brown hair, move it to the town and then dye its hair pink, any babies it spawn will also have pink hair.

Because hair dye also changes ones genes! LOL! XD

(I wish the Sims 2 also had the open neighborhood feature, though. And the traits! They look very fun)

Oh, I won't even mention the amount of stuff I have! But I've accepted that I also enjoy downloading and organizing stuff, so it's all right :P.

I think it's Desiderata Valley, but I'm not sure. Hmmm...

Oh that's neat about the mismatched eyes!

Isn't that a cool download? I'm pretty fond of it.

Hmmm, I'm wondering why one eye is higher than the other. Did I fuck up? D:

I'm slao very interested in the reason why aliens are in my precious DV...

And, I totally get you. I stopped playing TS3 early today too. I miss how simple everything was in TS2. It seems like everything is so much harder now. D:

I think one of the eyes is actually slightly bigger. It's definitely the mismatched eye add-on that's doing it, not your eyes.

The aliens are everywhere now. Haven't you heard? ;)

Not just harder, but different. It's a little more like a linear adventure game now. It can be fun, but also... somewhat lacking.

Oh, alright then. I was worried.

Apparently. :P

I agree. Did you hear that HP is working on default skins that respond to sliders? I'm excited, these hideous skins have got to go.

You're such a tease!

I bought the game last night, and it's almost impossible to make a thin-faced sim!
How you managed it with Ripp, I have no idea.

I prefer TS2. I hate the UI in TS3, it's so... squarish?

I'd love to see your review (for what it's worth).

I hear you on the "makes me miss sims2". Just reading about sims3 makes me hungry to play sims2.

The new sim is very pretty. Does she live in Desiderata Valley (near that sweet submerged ship)?

I cannot wait to see where this is going...

Time for Epic Round of Sims 2 playing before I finally get Sims 3

I felt a little sad after playing the sims 3 as well... but after a while I started to like it.. I think what makes it so boring is that we don't have any EP's... try playing the sims 2 without EP's and you'll see how boring it is :)
