CC project: subtle sideburns
Feb. 20th, 2009 08:07 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
After thinking about Ripp's sideburns some more, and some fruitless searching, I decided to try my hand at alpha editing.
Everything is clearly labeled, to avoid confusion.

1. No sideburns
2. My alpha-edited subtle sideburns - I can only figure out how to make them in black. Does anyone know how to toggle the colour in BodyShop?
3. My sideburns, again. Shown in black, to illustrate how they would look if they matched up.
4. Maxis sideburns
5. Tyler's sideburns (from GoS)
6. Fanseelamb's pointy sideburns (included with the Rufus Wainwright sim)
So what do you think? They achieve the effect I want them too (less stylized, and more natural than the other options), but I don't know how to make them brown. I'm sure there's an easy answer that I'm somehow missing. Anyone?
Also, what could be sexier than Ripp?
Answer: Six Ripps.

Date: 2009-02-21 12:02 am (UTC)With the color toggle thing, I usually start out with blond and go on from there since it's ~easier~ to recolor it.
Maybe you can try giving it a screen layer to make it lighter? That might make it weird and contrasty though. :\

Date: 2009-02-21 04:14 am (UTC)Hmmm, that might work, but I can't access blond either. I hope I'm not just being really dense (though I wouldn't be surprised).
Yeah, it would be hard to get to brown from black. Why could it be blond?
I need to figure this out. *ponders*

That was a knee-slapper~ :P

Date: 2009-02-21 04:58 am (UTC)I do like 5, but I wish it lined up better where it meets the hair. That sticks out a little.

Date: 2009-02-21 05:02 am (UTC)Oh, the effort we put in for the finest of details. It's worth it, though. Ripp gets a lot of face time, so I'll be happy I made the effort.

Date: 2009-02-21 12:51 am (UTC)Yeah, all I can think of for changing the color would be to extract a brown hair using BodyShop, then use some photo-editing program to open the file for the sideburns and one of the files for the hair side-by-side, so that you can easily compare the color as you recolor the sideburns. There's got to be a better way, though.

Date: 2009-02-21 03:03 pm (UTC)Yeah, there has to be a better way, I agree. That texture file is in the game, if it's used for the Maxis burns. Also, worked back from black to brown is going to tough. Hmmm. I'm going to figure this out. I'm determined.

Date: 2009-02-21 03:05 pm (UTC)Heheh. What could be better than six Ripps?
Answer: Nothing.

Date: 2009-02-21 01:47 am (UTC)They look great! Much better than the base ones, which I don't use as much as I'd like because they are too long.
I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by toggle. You mean you want them to change color when you change the sim's hair color like all the Maxis facial hair?
If that's the case, you need to make four different projects for your sideburns (one using a red haired sim, another with a blond, etc. etc.) and work from there so you can compare the sim's hair with the sideburn.
Once you are done, you can bin them so they work like the base game hair. I use the WW because I have no idea how to do it with SimPe.
And I hope this made sense! O_o

Date: 2009-02-21 03:22 am (UTC)Toggle is probably the wrong word, but you know how you can select which colour hair you want to work with when creating a sim hair in BodyShop? Well, I couldn't do that with the facial hair. It was only giving me black as an option, and there was no way to switch to the different bin colours.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, and I'm missing a step. I should have access to the four default colours, shouldn't I?

Date: 2009-02-21 04:08 am (UTC)I think this is the first time I have ever admitted physical attraction to Ripp? WOW.
Seriously, they look wicked awesome. I hope you figure out the color thing. *crosses fingers*

Date: 2009-02-21 04:19 am (UTC)So he's not real... *shrugs* I can still think he's sexy, right?
The extra side detail does increase his sex appeal, I agree. Also, the abrupt end at the ear is a little odd now that I've seen a more natural version.
