Hot Blond Downtownie

Am I the only simmer who doesn't like the Hot Blonde Downtownie? His "pretty" genes don't really do it for me, because I don't think template No. 1 looks good on male sims, and he's so poorly styled. Well, the shaggy hair isn't so bad, but the giant green glasses and the "Look Ma, I grew it myself!" teenaged goatee? Yeah, not really doing anything for me.

He's the focus of the new sim_mania challenge, which I'll be watching with interest. If anyone actually makes him look good to me, I'll definitely vote for them. I'll probably campaign on their behalf, in fact. But really... good luck with that. He's the reason chin beards were invented. *shudder*

I'm sure most of you will disagree with me, and you're welcome to it, but the HBD just bugs the shit out of me, so I had to vent a little. (I have to say that or you might think I'm better than you, or something.)

The timing of this challenge is funny, because I just made him playable to act as a minor character in my story. Yeah, HBD gets the plum role of Jaxy's mother's live-in boyfriend. It's not the sort of character he usually plays in legacies and such, but he wanted to expand his repertoire, since Sperm Donor No. 1 only gets you so far on your acting résumé. And he looks the part too. This will be his gritty, breakthrough role on his way to becoming the next indie film poster boy.

Sperm Donor No. 1, indeed *grin* He was one in my long gone and dead legacy too and was a wonderful granddad :D Otherwise he produced children with ridiculously large lips and eyes. Meh... he was OK to play, even though the sunglasses and goatee had to go *shudder* I actually though he was a more "Extreme" Face One, with even more soft/childlike features than the default One, but I could be wrong.

Loved his guest appearance in one of your Outtakes, and looking forward to seeing him as (not too nice, I guess?) live-in boyfriend :D

See... all sims are good parents, in my opinion. I've never had one that was uninterested in their kids or grandkids. Even Olive Specter makes an awesome grandma, and she has zero nice points.

Is it even more extreme than face one? I thought all townies and downtownies were pure templates. If he's more exaggerated, that probably makes him even worse. It's funny, because I don't dislike big lips and eyes in all cases, but there's just something about that face.... the lack of chin, the fact that there's very little distance between his nose and his lips, the tiny nose... yeah, just not for me.

He's really not a nice sim. He has only four nice points, so I'm not even taking him out of character that way, really. My playing with Jaxy's Mom and him, and letting them run on free will with the right items in their house, has them playing exactly to character. It's funny. I've even had neighbours come to complain about the smell.

Yeah, HBD never did much for me either. Much prefer Snakeskin Guy (whose features aren`t so overly exaggerated and whose personality is much more livelier than HBD`s) and, well, I do have a soft spot for the Travolta guy - he`s very... optimistic.

That contest sounds fun, though. :) Can`t wait to see HBD playing such an "OOC" role in your story, maybe I`ll finally find him interesting enough.

To be fair, I've never played with any of these downtownie guys. When I marry someone into a sim family, it's usually a townie or, more often, an NPC. A lot of those Nightlife outfits were really hilariously bad, though. It think it's even worse than the basegame.

It doesn't even seem that out of character for me. :P I guess I'm just contrary, but I thought it would be hilarious to cast him as a "bad guy" in the story. (Really, he's as much a victim of addiction as he is a villain.)

You know I love him. :D Not just his genes, but I love his personality, his sloppiness, his goofiness, and even his heart-print boxers. :D He's just fun.

But I don't think he's template #1. Not entirely. They may have started with that template, but they've changed it somewhat. His Angelina Jolie lips and huge eyes are definitely different than the old standard #1.

Your legacy was the first time I ever really noticed him. I've never really followed/read legacies.

But I do agree with strange, his look annoys me (the glasses/hair combo). His face in general? He's just a regular looking sim to me.

I'm being completely shallow because I don't care if he has a "good personality" or not (and he's a bit of a grouch too, is he not?). He just looks like a knob to me. We don't see eye to eye on Ajay this way either. I don't see anything in him looks-wise. He's just has a bland mashed-potatoes baby face to me. I just don't like when male faces are based on that template.

I think my version of the HBD will probably have crabs too. *snicker*

I don't think I've ever played with him, other than a vid. But I've seen him post-makeover in some legacies and he wasn't too bad. I don't mind that face template, though. It's the only Maxis template I didn't replace. He seems like he'd be immature with those boyish features, the spoiled man-boy who likes to game on the couch in his underwear. Sounds like he'll be much different in your upcoming chapter.

Forgot to say I'm a bit "challenged" by the new Challenge in sim_mania, lol. I almost never do anything to Georgie (HBD) other than give him new Everyday clothes. I just love him too much as-is. Isn't that SAD? :D

I love him as an Elder too. He's one of those sims that ages well IMO.

I agree with you on the hair/glasses thing. That combo just irritates me.

Since I don't really follow legacies, I never realized (until cindyanne's Standish family) that he was THE sperm donor. I also never really used to take sims downtown, so he was a non-issue.

I wouldn't exclude him JUST because he's good looking, though. If a sim took a shine to him (and I was feeling benevolent) I'd allow the pairing.

I've always seen the hair/sunglasses on him as his way of trying to "cover up" his looks. ;) He's not at all conceited, is Georgie, and he wants to be noticed for more than just his pretty-boy face. So he grew messy hair, grew a half-assed beard, and wears huge aviator glasses to hide it all. He wants to be more than just the sperm donor, lol! He wants to be loved and to be played! And to show off his heart print boxers and love of sports!!

Not to mention he almost always has a great job and lots of skill points and/or lots of friends. And I think Maxis made him a Popularity sim first and then changed him to Knowledge at the "last minute" If that makes sense. He almost always has a "popularity sim" LTW, have any of you ever noticed? (Or am I the only one who plays him this much in depth, lol)

He's a breeder of choice, and I can see why. You're not getting anything extreme there, so your founders genes will shine through (and you won't be stuck with a Sandy Bruty mouth). He also has recessive genes, which I'm sure adds to his appeal.

He's pretty overplayed. I feel like taking him down a notch. I think he can handle it. ;)

I don't like his genes THAT much, but I have seen his spawn and they're pretty attractive. (I made a "joke" in my first legacy about him, basically the HBD not wanting to be all up in my founder's uterus, because he wants a BREAK. He must be tired. ;P)

I never really played with downtownies all too much, but
I was curious enough to use him once. I married him off to a sim I made with the elf template, their kids were pretty cute, but his genes were SO DOMINANT. His kids almost looked like exact clones of him, but with tiny difference. His last child, though, looked like a good blend and I used him as "sperm donor" for my legacy. XD

Yeah, HBD gets around. I'd say he makes decent kids because he's not too extreme (aside from the lips).

So do you often breed up your own townies for sperm donors? I thought you used replacement face templates too, or am I making that up?

I let him throw his genes at one of my Prosperity founders once, she was a pretty ordinary-looking girl but with his pouty lips and big nose the kids (twins) ended up looking really awkward. Not exactly unattractive but definitely not "pretty" by any mainstream legacy standards, so I don't get why he's so wildly popular.

Yeah, I can see that. The lips are a bit much to work well with all faces. I think his recessive colouring has something to do with his popularity too. Too many dominant genes in a legacy gets really boring.

Oh, it's 10-year-old face! I once married him into one of my early (and failed) legacies and I just couldn't shake off the feeling that my founder was a "crib robber" (or pedo) after she woo-hooed with him!

I think he looks like that (the beard and odd glasses) because he wants to look older. See, as a downtownie, he spends all the time around those hip and "cool" community lots, but he's often denied access to the nightclubs because he's mistaken as a twelve year old. How is he supposed to impress all those legacy heiress who are just dying for his sperm if he can't even invite them a beer at the Lucky Cards place?

I'm really not sure if he's an exact replica of a face one sim, though. I guess we could compare him with a grown up version of Brandi Broke's third child. I'll look for the pics I still have of David Broke...

I agree with you SO HARD, ST. I've always hated him, and I've never evn played him/married him in, blegh. It's the Face One, it bothers me so much. (This coming from someone ho married it in three generations in a row.) But he annoys me, with his little beard and glasses- ugh ugh ugh.

Yeah, I have issues with face one too, though I do like it in small does. Some sims should have it... but not ALL sims. I think Erin Beaker is face one, right? There's not too much of it in Strangetown.

I'm really not a fan of sunglasses, especially coloured ones. That Traveller guy is another one that rots my guts. He just seems like he'd have to be a dickhead to me.

...I never even thought to pay any attention to that guy. So many (down)townies are "beauty-impaired" that I really wasn't going to wait around for him to take his damn glasses off.
