Before I start digging around for answers, I thought I'd throw this out there to anyone who may have already dealt with this problem. I finished installing my Sims 2 basegame and all the EPs and SPs, and when I tried to run it, I received this message:

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm running Windows 7, and I'm assuming I'm also running something that's a more recent version of DirectX. Any thoughts? I'd appreciate any advice you can throw my way.

ETA: I'm taking a look at this page. Hopefully, it'll provide an answer. Ugh, I can be so clueless about this sort of thing.

I had this problem when I moved my game to my new computer with win7. I deleted and reinstalled pretty much every driver on my computer, then deleted and reinstalled directX. I also rebooted after deleting everything but before reinstalling everything. I know that's a bit vague, but it worked for me. I used to get random directX errors thrown at me even after all that, but since I've begun deleting my game cache before starting up my game, it hasn't been a problem.

Good Luck! I really hope you get your game back up as I love to lurk on your LJ :)

This happened to me after installing on Win7 and I also deleted and reinstalled directx. I installed the one that came with TS2 so I was sure it was compatible.
(I also had this problem after installing a no-cd thingie, but that was because I accidentally put it in a wrong place)

I run Win 7 with DX10 installed and a Radeon 5670. Definitely upgrade graphics drivers (not through Windows! through the GPU manufacturer) and see if installing DX10 helps.

I agree with the rest and say it'll be a drivers problem. I think I got this error report before, but I can't remember specifically what the problem was. Hope it gets solved soon, though!!

It happened to me a long time ago but I forget how I've solved the problem. I remeber I tried to reinstall DirectX but it wasn't worked for me. If your problem won't be solved this way try to check out your device manager in Windows. Maybe you need a special driver to your motherboard. I agree with upper commentator. No CD may cause this problem. And maybe you need to update your Framework.
I hope you'll start playing soon.

My English is not very good but I will try to explain what I did when I had this error. I believe we checked the version of Nvidia. You can find this when you touch the desktopicon of you computer and you select something like Settings ( my computer is Dutch so I do not know how it is called in English) Somewhere you can find all of the installed applications like sound and monitorsettings. I believe we deleted the latest update of Nvidia. I do not know if this will work because it is quite a long time ago I had this problem. Success anyway!

it's best to just go update everything from every manufacture. See my win7 runs on directX11 and i had issues with my game at first. i updated the drivers on my graphix card and every other component that had to do with graphics.

Wow, I run my game on Windows 7 and haven't had any issues at all. My game runs on the 64 bit side though, instead of the 32 bit.

I have no idea why this would work, but it's worked for me on various other messages that have popped up and stopped my game working.

Try deleting the Accessory and Group caches, Cigen and ContestRegistry files. They're all in the My Docs -> EA Games ->The Sims 2 folder.

This probably won't help but it is the fix for quite a few loading issues, and the files come right back once the game successfully loads so it might be worth a go! Hope this gets fixed soon!
