My new computer has finally allowed me to play Sims 3 well on the highest graphical setting (I used to have crazy lag on even just an okay setting), so I've been enjoying some gameplay these past couple of days. I was also able to install Generations, and I'm enjoying the features that adds to the game. Lots of fun little details. I decided to play the Goth family, so I have a cute little Bella/Mortimer shot to share with you:

A post-graduation date on the beach. How romantic!

And yeah, it turns out Bella is "that girl with the cat ears" that is a staple character of every new year of college students, especially in art schools. ;)

You were totally the girl with cat ears, weren't you?

Me? Haha. No, it wasn't me, but there was definitely a girl like this in my class (it was a headband with ears, not a hat). I was much more concerned with trying to seem older and more mature than I was in highschool, so nothing so childlike for me! :P

My SO works at a college and he remarks that there is still always one of these EVERY single year. He's surprised the trend hasn't passed, but trying to stand out as unique when you enter college seems to be pretty timeless.

We see this at the local college here every year, even though it's been almost ten years since we experienced it firsthand (wow, we're getting old), so it truly stands the test of time.

I'm a little surprised that Bella would go that route. She seems a little too sophisticated for it to me, but then again, she doesn't seem like one to take herself too seriously either. I could see her as a very self-aware (and maybe ironic?) cat-eared college girl.

You've gotta love the transition outfits for characters you aren't' controlling in Sims 3. It's fun to see how they end up. So far, at least this Bella hasn't morphed into an entirely different body type, so I'm happy.

Most of my anime-loving high school friends were cat-eared girls at some point (though a couple had fish hats instead.) I actually needed a character like that for F&R and the honor went to Sandy Bruty.

I was thinking Bella would want to do something to set herself apart and call attention to herself (though she'd probably stop once she saw the other girls doing it.)

I never did cat ears, but I wore a pink-and-white crocheted panda hat to uni my first year! Everyone complimented me on my excellent hat, and I'm pretty sure most of them weren't being sarcastic. XD

I think the true character type wears them more on a headband and ALL the time as an adopted eccentricity, but I see the knitted/crocheted hats quite often, too. I've never had one (I tend to have to avoid overly cutesy things, lest I look like a petite little doll of a person), but I considered making one for my cousin, who I think would like the style.

The real question is, did you make it? I have several patterns for these type of hats and they're so cute. I'm definitely making one for my future child. My grandmother used to knit me little white "cat caps" all the time when I was young. They're very cute.

Like the ones I put on boring sim children to try to make them less boring? XD

I'm round, am too "cute" to be hot, and barely 5'2", so I gave up trying to avoid the label a longggg time ago.

Nope, [livejournal.com profile] katu made it! [livejournal.com profile] javabean_dreams and I stayed with her in 2010, and she made us hats. :D

It's a cute pic, but I still can't get over it how the Sims look in Sims 3.

LOLOL, yep I know of a 'girl with the cat ears' in my college! She doesn't wear them every day, but I have seen her wear them quite a few times.
