CC Clutter

I have a long weekend ahead of me, and I wanted to contribute to the GoS monthly theme of clutter, so I'm looking for suggestions for some Maxis-match cc clutter. I'm not promising to make any of it (may as well be honest here), but I hope to get inspired by something. Care to help me out?

Is there anything that'd you'd love to have for your game?

Anything with Simlish is always good! Also, extracted Maxis stuff, especially food clutter.

I've given some thought to food clutter before, so it's something I might reconsider. There's some interesting textures on the community lot grocery items that could be recycled, and I've also considered using the pet food box textures to recolour that trio of cereal boxes that came with FT or AL (can't remember which one).

And I agree that Simlish is always good.

(this is more a question than anything)

What about bugs, like the roaches and flies? Have those ever been extracted? How cool would it be for storytellers/photo folks to have bugs they can put any old where? (which makes me wonder if it's already been done)

But are bugs really "clutter"?

I think it counts as clutter as long as it doesn't serve any functional purpose in the game besides taking up space and looking interesting in pictures.

That was the definition I've gathered from the thread. It seems like they're even counting wall hangings, though those are less interesting to me, since they're already quite plentiful.

Hmmm. That's an interesting one. I imagine that you could use one of those floor overlay objects and use flat versions of the roach textures. If I recall correctly, I don't think they even have dimension (but I'll check it out). I could whip up some wall versions too. That might work for both flies and roaches (flies could be placed in the middle of the room, for example.)

I'm really liking this idea! I think it counts as clutter, given that it's purely visual interest, as skellington said. Also, it makes sense to have some to go along with the real clutter. These cluttered places do tend to attract more bugs.

What about the butterflies and fireflies? Can't forget the non-gross bugs!

Ok, now that I'm all thinking about bugs, it would be too funny to extract the little white "bad" bugs (from the plants) and put them around a sims head like they have a major lice infestation.

De-lurks. Having the butterflies and fireflies extracted would be awesome! I've always had to photoshop them in when I want them because they always spawn in the wrong spot and can't be picked up and moved...

It really is too bad they can't be selected. I'm not sure if my skills are quite up to this task yet, but perhaps I will give it a try.

Oooh, that gives me an idea. I'd love to see someone extract the bug jar with the fireflies inside and make it into a useable lamp-type object, which doesn't die off shortly after created. I've always thought the bugs in the jar were cute, but it makes me sad that they die so quickly.

The lice infestation would be funny. It's really too bad the bugs can't be picked up as objects, so we could mess around with them like that.

To follow up, I attemped to use the cockroach texture on a floor overlay, and I don't think it turned out too great. Maybe I'll play aorund with a little more, though.

Has anyone ever extracted the repoman's gun-thingymajig?

I'm not sure if they have. I've never seen one. It'd be interesting to have, for sure. I like having NPC items and clothing (like the unlocked vehicles), so playable characters can seem like they're NPCs.

Oh, that's true! I actually have one sitting in my simself's home right now. I'd completely forgotten about that.

Yes, I used to have it in my game but I got rid of it after my last CC purge. :P

Do you remember where you found it? I'm always searching around for more extracted Maxis objects.

I don't. :\ I want to say GoS; it was definitely within a set of Maxis extracted items. I can poke around when I get a chance.

I would love some Maxis match grunge type stuff like an extracted Maxis pizza box with chewed pizza crusts or a broken non functional mirror. Most of the grunge type stuff I've seen is made to look very realistic and doesn't look so good with a Maxis match hood whereas a lot of the extracted items are too clean looking to be grungy.

Either that or some of the clutter items from Sims 3 converted for TS2 use, that would be cool!

Have you seen this set at GoS? It has the empty pizza box. The half-eaten slice would be a nice addition, though, you're right. I'm not sure, but I may have seen a broken mirror there, too (seems like the type of content they'd feature).

I was very into using Sims 3 extracted items when it first came out, but now I'm less excited about it, since I'm trying to limite new meshes and I figure the Sims 3 stuff is probably much higher poly. I think Clutter-a-holic has a number of items taken from that game.

Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen those! I'll have a search around for a broken mirror there too.

Will check out clutter-a-holic too. Now that I think about it I wonder if the TS3 extracted items will be TS2maxis match-y enough, if that makes sense.

You're welcome. ^_^

That does make sense, and I don't actually think the two games actually match each other that well. I still think it's cool that people can make those items available for Sims 2, but I'm not very interested in using them. I think some of the textures and artwork match nicely, but not so much the sculptural stuff.

Yay! Clutter! <3

How about discarded clothing that doesn't look like just flat things on the floor? Like piles of clothing?. But that would get into meshing...

Heh, discarded boxers and panties. Those could even be flat, I wouldn't care. Singly and in pairs:

-boxers
-panties
-boxers + panties
-boxers + boxers
-panties + panties

They could be placed by a bed where sims are wooing. :D
Bonus points if they're your woohoo boxers!

Haha, yeah. Not quite up for the meshing thing yet. Even extracting still feels like a bit of a stretch, but I'm learning as I go.

The underwear on the floor would surely be useful. Something like the rug items from TSS, but less cartoon-like, perhaps? In theory, it would only be a matter of taking the textures from the clothing and then playing around in Photoshop, folding, adding shadows, wrinkles, etc. It's an idea, for sure.

If the idea strikes your fancy and isn't too much work... but really if something else looks more fun to do, don't worry about it.

Forget my idea of sets, though. If there was just one of boxers and one of panties, I'm sure they could be laid out on the floor in any combination with moveobjects. I wasn't using my headmeats yesterday.

This all reminds me, I don't even have TSS yet. I think that one, and the holiday pack, are the only ones I don't have... *eyes shelf of game boxes*

So many things that I want to learn to make them!!
I'd like to have the clothes piles off the H&M table, some of the little tinkering items from the robot station; I'd like to break apart the little clutter piles EA gave us in FT, the soap dish that's on one of the tubs...let's see, what else...I have a list somewhere for when I finally learn how to do it (and there are many more than this list). :P I have been able to do a lot in my life, including complex equations and forays into cooking (haha!) and marriage, but I still have no idea how to even start breaking apart Maxis things and making new objects.

I feel the same way. I want to learn how to do it all. If only my attention span weren't so terrible these days. I really struggle with sticking to anything for too long.

Those are all great ideas! I really hope you decide to get into mesh editing and share some of your content ideas with us. ^_^ Go for it! You can do it! *waves cheerleader pompoms*

I'd like to see some clutter that does not raise the environment score. I have all this great CC I've found for my Apocalypse challenge, but due to the challenge rules (with Art still restricted), I cannot place any of it.

That's a good point. I'm sure there's some checkbox in SimPE to fiddle with that, so I'll keep it in mind. In fact, it'd probably be possible for you to edit some of the clutter you already have to work for your challenge.

I'd recommend checking out all the tutorials at GoS. There's more than likely something there that'd tell you how to go about doing it.
