I was playing the Newson lot in Sim City just before I started to notice the trouble with vanishing lots in my game, so I thought I'd share this little extra (as the idea of rebuilding is keeping me pretty disinterested in my game these days, so I'm lacking in anything fresh to report). I knew where I was going with Ginger in S,HWC, having played her in Pleasantview already (and the matchmaker pulled her in from the bin!), but I wanted to get a sense of where the rest of this twice-orphaned family might end up. The news wasn't good for Gavin:

This is the first time I've seen the death by hail in my game! I've had hail before and sims have complained that it was stinging their skin, but it wasn't severe enough to cause damage to them. This time it actually showed up on the ground (I'm guessing that's the sign you want to look for to know when to stay inside), and Gavin was getting pelted so hard that every time I cancelled the "Ow! Ow! Hail!!" interaction and tried to get him to run for it, it was only a matter of seconds before he was stopped by the hail again. Gallagher was with him, too, but since he was still a child, he was harmed, but not killed. Ginger was in bed, exhausted from the unpaid caregiving of her adopted siblings, and I couldn't get her up in time to plead for his life. Poor Gavin. :(

The one I really feel for now is Ginger. Her sim bio says she was "a troubled child with a troubled past" before she was adopted, then she's faced with the death of Gloria, her adopted mother. Then, after acting as a mother to her siblings with Gavin's help, he too dies, leaving her a single teen mother of four! This girl has had quite a life, without even getting into my own version where Gavin and Ginger end up falling for each other in a quasi-incestuous manner, once they become "parents" together. Troubled past, indeed. Luckily, the matchmaker in Pleasantview noticed that she has a triple bolt-on for a certain Maxis premade lad who also has a very troubled past, but really has a heart of gold. And Ginger reminds him of his mother in so many ways...

Nope. He's got the troubled past, for sure, but he has more than enough romantic drama on his plate as it is in S,HWC. And he's not in Pleasantview. ;)

Both of those boys suffer from Dead Parent Syndrome, don't they? The key is in the troubled past. I imagine Ginger's past involved some trouble with the law (she was adopted as a teen, at least the way I see it), so that mirrors of of the Pleasantview teens quite nicely.

Oh, God, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has done that.

I've thought about it, too. Now, hearing that others have done it, I'm a little bit encouraged to do it, but I don't know if saying this might make me "unoriginal".

A good sim soap opera trumps originality any day of the week. XD

I was sure I couldn't be (or at least I was hoping that I wasn't) the only one! With them being adopted at an older age (that's how I imagine it) and not being related by blood, I found my mind naturally going there.

Ginger and Dustin have become OTP material for me. They've gotten together my past two mega hoods and are adorable together.

She was picked as a perfect match for Dustin by the matchmaker, so I can see how they'd gravitate to each other. Aside from compatible aspirations, they have a lot of parallels in their histories, so that makes it that much more interesting to me.

That and the fact that I find it impossible to imagine Angela ending up with him. In my games, she usually goes after Dirk at some point, which does help the Pleasant sister relations one little bit! :P

Hahah aww I love the comments and drama and I haven't played their lots so much but now I am totally leaning towards the idea of Ginger and Gavin...go sim soaps! :D

Sim soaps are the best. Things always get way out of hand when I'm just playing with sims. I have to try to reign it in for my stories, just so it's a little easier to follow. :P
