I've been giving this idea some more thought, and if you can stomach the idea of a story where they (mostly) all die, it makes for some very interesting exploration of the teen characters in Sims 2. There are so many factors that could be considered. And, if you know me at all, you know I have no problem with killing characters (even ones I really like), so this side project is right up my alley.

The class roster would look like this:

Boys

1. Dustin Broke
2. Tybalt Capp
3. Justin Cleveland
4. Rick Contrary
5. Dirk Dreamer
6. Ripp Grunt
7. Tank Grunt
8. Jacob Martin
9. Mercutio Monty
10. Romeo Monty
11. Gavin Newson
12. David Ottomas
13. Johnny Smith
14. Puck Summerdream

Girls

1. Hermia Capp
2. Juliette Capp
3. Miranda Capp
4. Tara DeBateau
5. Violet Jocque
6. Ginger Newson
7. Ophelia Nigmos
8. Jules O'Mackey
9. Angela Pleasant
10. Lilith Pleasant
11. Sandra Roth
12. Melody Tinker

There are a couple more guys than girls, but it's mostly even. It's alphabetical, and the players are released in this order (as in the original story), alternating by gender. This adds an element of chance to who might be able to meet up with who, and who might get separated from their friends. Of course, being with your friends isn't even always a sure bet in these circumstances, so that would have to be considered too. Who's more likely to lose trust in their friends and break under the pressure?

Some people have obvious skills that would benefit them, such as Tank's military training, Dustin's criminal experience, and Violet's athletic ability. Then there's the teen angst, of which we have plenty. Plenty of love triangles, stolen boyfriends, sworn enemies, and sibling dynamics. Tasty, tasty stuff.

I'd love to chat about it some more with anyone who's interested, especially where some of the less known teens are concerned. I've played all of these kids, but some obviously more than others. The bin sims and Melody are more difficult, because they don't have any specified relationships with the other teens. I can get a little creative there, but I'd like to keep things very true to the game storyline for this (including the sim bios, so expect a very fearful and slightly hypochondriac Ophelia, an heroic Johnny, and so on).

I'm going to set it up so they've all just started senior high in a new school, combined into one class for the first time, so the sims from different hoods would know each other, but only a little. All the baggage of the neighborhoods will remain intact. They will all be assumed to be the same age, since they're in the same class (and I have no interest in making slight distinctions between the ages of sims in the teen state).

So what do you think? Any thoughts?

I am a fan of Battle Royale in all of it's forms and I think this would be an awesome project! I am actually really excited about this and think it's great that you've decided you want to do this. Are you going to base it mainly off the movie, manga, or book? Are you going to come up with your own deaths or base it off the deaths already written? Oh there are just so many ideas that popped into my head after reading this! I agree after thinking about it Melody and the bin sims are hard to place in the battle royale scenario but I could see the Newson kids sticking together and not wanting to play at all and offing themselves together. Melody I think would be the loner in the class because there aren't any other teens from her neighborhood that she can relate to. I don't know those are just some ideas that popped into my head. But I think this is great and can't wait to see what you do with it.

I'll take some inspiration from all three forms of the story, but I'm not planning to recreate any of it exactly. I might recycle some of the deaths (or at least take a cue from them as a starting point), if they fit, and some of the characters do match with certain types found in Battle Royale. I think a lot of the team dynamic and eventual betrayals found in the book would happen in any given group, so it makes sense to see them happen in this version too.

I know I shouldn't be distracting myself with yet another side project, but this one really infected my brain! I guess reading the novel, watching the movie, and re-reading the manga back to back will do that to you. :P

Now I just need a good location for it to take place. An island would make sense, but I could always go with a known location that has been evacuated for this purpose. I'm thinking an island would probably work best, though. Something small would keep the project more manageable.

This sounds like a great idea - I love letting the Maxis teens getting to know each other (so much angst and drama, so little time :P) but the added 'killing game' makes it even more explosive, of course :) I'd never be able to pull it off myself (can't even seem to kill off the sims I don't like, annoyingly enough), but I'd love to see where you'd take it :)

I agree. The thought of imminent and inevitable death would really push things to move along quickly with the character interactions.

My main concern is with actually showing the deaths in the game. I'm not aiming for tonnes of blood and gore, but I guess I will need to consider some cc guns and posing hacks that will make it seem somewhat believable.

I would really get a kick out of reading this though it has been a long time since I've even seen the Battle Royal mangas.

I don't know anything about Battle Royale, but I'll read it if you do it, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it! I don't have a problem with characters being killed, either.

All I can really remember about Melody Tinker is that she is buggy in college -- she goes to class and never comes back, or something. Though that might have been fixed in a patch or by MATY.

Battle Royale was actually one of my ex's favourite movies. So naturally I avoided it. >_>

But this project of yours has the potential for epicness so I'm going to try to hunt down a copy of the movie this weekend and watch it.

I've never read the book, seen the movie, or read the manga (so my opinion is useless) but after reading the description of what happens at Wikipedia I just want to say that if you do do this I will be very sad when I see all of my bbs murder each other.

I do have a question though- how do you decide who survives? Will you follow the plot of the book or do it a bit more randomly?

You can kill everyone except Ripp, Puck, Lilith and Hermia. They must be saved!

this should be interesting to say the least, good luck!

Ah, I know this is pretty old, but I never got a chance to comment it when you first posted (as I hadn't signed up for LJ yet, and didn't want to post anonymously). I really love this idea. Battle Royale is one of my favorite novels, and seeing the maxis sims in such a situation would be awesome. I don't know if you've given up on this idea, but I would definitely read it if you revived it!
