Meme time! I try not to go overboard with memes, but this one just seems full of holiday good will. Won't you play along?

Description taken from the very first time it was posted:
'Tis the season to... make a million memes to let everyone know just how much you appreciate them and love them. :D

Here's the plan: You comment with your username, and people will comment ANONYMOUSLY with things they love and cherish about you. I say anonymously because it makes the atmosphere lighter and more mysterious, kind of like a Secret Santa only with love and holiday cheer! People will wonder who these caring people are and appreciate the fact that they exist, not only the fact that they may be best friends with them.

Then find people you care about and have something nice to say to - even if you don't know them! - and leave them something that will make their heart feel a little warmer at night. This way, the love will go around and around and the magical spirit of the season can be cherished and appreciated by all.

You can find mine right here. If you post one, you can comment here with your link and you just might get a little anon love of your own. ^_^

ETA: I now also have another thread at [livejournal.com profile] allthingsimlish , so you can go there instead. And why not join the new comm? It'll be fun!

But. . .but. . .what if no one responds to your comment?

It'll be like valentine's day in elementary school all over again. No one will "choo-choo-choose me"!

Poor Ralph.

Also, I agree it can be a little unsettling for a moment or two, wondering if anyone will post a comment, but I'm sure someone always eventually does.

Ooh, so someone goes around batting clean up making sure there are no Ralphs? Like handing out "participation" ribbons?

Hmm, that sounds like a fun job.

Heheh. Well, really I mean that anyone who mentions it in their journal is sure to get at least one taker. It's the whole spirit of the thing.

I guess if someone is worried that there's nobody out there who'd say a good thing about them, then maybe it'd be best not to post, but that'd be pretty sad. I think they might be surprised.

I forgot about the "pimp it in your journal" part.

Good point.

So there's probably little reason to worry about Ralphs.

Now you've got it. It's a whole lot more likely that nobody'll show up to your party if you don't send out invites.

To go with the metaphor, I've definitely had this exact anxiety over real life parties. Usually, it's just a matter of having people being fashionably late. (Damn fashionable friends...)

I don't throw parties.

(really, I'm not just being a smart ass)

I rarely go to any, either. I'm not much of a social butterfly.

Oh, believe me, neither am I, but I do enjoy a good (informal) party every now and then.

You know, I'm actually worried about that too. I guess I'm one of those that suffer from that kind of anxiety (OMG ITS GRADE SCHOOL ALL OVER AGAIN) But it's such a neat idea I just went ahead and posted. I'll certainly try to post as many comments as I can (and not in the participation trophy kind of way :D ).

I really like the idea too (despite my being devil's advocate and playing the "won't someone think of the Ralphs" card).

I think it really depends on if you pimp it or not. Pimping it really does help cast a wider net (which kind of turns it into a contest, which kind of brings us right back to the Ralph issue, huh?)

Guess I'm just a crusty old Ebeneezer.

I'd go as so far to say that those who turn it into a contest are a lot sadder than those that get no comments at all. I hope that made sense. :p

I get you.

Excellent point, too.

I'm not really sure how one would turn it into a contest. Part of the meme itself is the fact that you post it to let people know you're doing it, and to spread the word to others to join in.

It's not so much "pimping" (I hate that term), as it is letting people know about it.

Well, I'd be lying if I said I didn't have any anxiety over it. I think it's normal to feel that, even if just a tiny bit. (Some people don't but they have other problems. :P)

Yeah, me too. I'm all about sharing the love over there whenever I have something to say. I don't think it's a matter of forcing anything, either. We have all sorts of nice things in there to say about people, but we would feel silly (or, worse, maybe a "suck up") saying them publicly, for others to scrutinize. It's more of a matter of being free to fully express the things we often think but rarely say.
