Thank you to everyone who offered suggestions to my hair mesh problem, and particularly those who gave me a nudge to open up Bodyshop and give it a whirl myself.
music_simbol suggested this mesh, which was more or less the same basic shape as the Maxis ponytail, but about half as long. Then she insisted that switching up the textures would be super easy to do, and it really was! Recolouring isn't hard, especially when it is a basic cut and paste job like this one was (and changing the hue would be easy too, I imagine). I could do that again, no problem. Thanks, Music Simbol! You rock.
Want to see how it looks?

Ripp: Yessir! Looks about the same from the front, but how about the back?

Ripp: Yeah, that's more like it. Still slightly longer than it would be, but pretty darn close. (And it's longer than a fucking dork knob, thankyouverymuch!)

Ripp: Damn, I look good. Oh yeah... and the hair looks pretty fucking sweet too. If, you know, I actually wanted to tidy up for some reason. Pffft. Whatever.

As you can see, the mesh isn't perfect (some of the animation is a little wonky too - revealing other oddities), but I can easily work around that when taking the photos. I'm so pleased that this worked out.
But why would Ripp want or need to put his hair up? Hmmm... Is he trying to give off a good impression? But why?
The answer will be revealed in the next chapter.

Date: 2008-03-03 11:12 am (UTC)I read about converting clothing from young adult to adult to elder with SimPE, and it sounded pretty easy, but then when I tried it, it didn't work. In the end, I just aged up the sim with InSIM for the photoshoot instead (the change room scene with R, J, and Z). I could probably try it again. There is a tutorial out there somewhere, and you might have better luck with it that I did (SimPE still confuses me).
*snicker* Johnny better deliver the goods, if he knows what's good for him.

Date: 2008-03-03 12:30 pm (UTC)I tried to convert adult undies to elder undies (not using simPE) and it didn't work for me. I think my failing was using CUSTOM undies. I still want someone to take The Panties (see icon) and make them for elders. There have been a few attempts but no full successes.
I've never used simPE to do anything with content. And right now I'm technically using the wrong simPE, so it might not work at all anyway (yeah, I'm using seasons simPE even though I have teen stuff--doesn't matter for cloning and that but for object work it might no work).

Date: 2008-03-03 01:19 pm (UTC)It's supposedly pretty easy to convert clothing between YA, adult, and elder in SimPE, so it should be possible to convert your man panties. I'm sure that I was just effing up some minor detail there. SimPE confuses me, and I'm more than a little nervous about wrecking some file or another. I haven't even figured out the genetics thing yet, making recessives and such. I gave it a shot using that tutorial you pointed out to me, but it looked different (I think it is because of the BV version of SimPE), so I didn't really get into it. I'll have to do some reading up on it.
Would the BV version of SimPE work for TSS? I suppose you may as well just wait for the Free Time update now. (I picked up Free Time over the weekend. I was in the store, and just couldn't resist. I haven't installed it yet, but I'm just DYING to.)

Date: 2008-03-03 01:28 pm (UTC)I think the BV version of simPE will work with TSS items, since TSS came out before BV (I think). I doubt I'll ever get BV so I will wait for the FT version of simPE.
Man, you like torturing yourself, huh? Buying it and having it in the house like that? You're worse than me (I only have the guide coming from amazon--should be any day now).
