Just in case you're curious to see all of the residents of my prosperity challenge neighbourhood, here is a little sneak preview. These are the original loading screen images, from when I moved them all in.

Davenport

Wolfe

Cole

Lamb

Fisher

Snow

The parents in the Wolfe and Cole families were immediately aged to elder when they hit the ground, since I wanted to do it that way instead of having a placeholder. Sure, it's an interesting backstory to have a dead parent, but I liked the idea of aging parents better, so that's how I handled that. That gives us four single elders in town, two single adults, and two married couples. Not to mention all of those children. I was going to post names and stats, but I will do some profiles later. For now, feel free to speculate as much as you like.

The name of the community is in the proud tradition of oddly named places in Newfoundland, which is where I live. Places like Conception Bay, Random Island, Herring Neck, Muddy Hole, Tickle Cove, Jerry's Nose, and Dildo (I kid you not). Check them all out here, if you don't believe me. You can't even make this stuff up.

I'm really looking forward to doing this challenge!

For a sec, I was like, where's Ripp? Then I saw that he's a blond! And aww, look at his cute alien kids! What woman wouldn't want a piece of that?!

Frances married to a women with kids?! HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!! Not so much with the kids as the woman!!! For his kids sake, I hope his facial genes aren't too strong.

Johnny looks pretty okay without green skin. I don't know what I was expecting. I think I thought that he wouldn't look okay, but he looks just fine to me. And all the grandkids look cute too.

I know Nervous is female among the Wolfes. As for the rest of them, I got nothing.

Lamb, no idea. Davenport, that's Tank, right? Or is it Buzz? It's not zoomed in enough on the nose for me to tell.

So, I'm hoping this means we'll see the first update soon!! ^_^

Yeah, Ripp's a blond, but it doesn't matter, since he's gone grey anyway. Genetically, he's blond, so that's cool. The alien kids have recessive blond hair. He has an adorable brood. The toddlers are so cute.

The part that will make you laugh is that Frances' wife is not originally a woman. I switched the sex of that clone. But who is it... ?

Yeah, I think that Johnny looks decent like that. The kids in the Fisher family are pretty adorable. Lots of good kids in this 'hood.

Nervous is only present in genetics there. He's the "dead" husband of the mother.

It is Tank. He doesn't even have different genetics, aside from brown eyes (which look sweet on him). He's the closest to his original state in appearance, but he's a SUPER outgoing knowledge sim. And a criminal. *grin*

Yeah, I'll get it up sometime this week. But first... back to replying to comments. *cracks whip at self*

Ugh, now I have to guess the spouse? Ok,so it was a man from Strangetown. If you changed the genes, I'll never guess, cuz it could be anyone!

Outgoing Tank, huh? Is he so outgoing, that he'll venture over to the Snow household? (Yeah, I'm still on that T/F trip)

As you can see, James Davenport was having none of it.

Aww shucks! Wat's Frances' asp? I'm sure the turn ons/off had something to do with this too. Oh well. So much for my little dream.

(and I still need some hints on Frances' wife)

You know I would have totally gone for it here, if they were into it.

Frances is a pleasure sim, so that's probably why. I don't remember all the turn ons/offs, but that might also be a factor. Or just the zodiac signs. Oh well. Perhaps their kids will hit it off...

Frances' wife is from Pleasantview originally.

Ok, Pleasantview, did you change up the genes drastically?

ext_122042: (Default)
From: [identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com
I changed them. The skin on the Maxis sim is lighter than that, and the hair is darker.

Don Lothario? In the gender swapped Pleasantview that was out ahile ago, Don made a dark good looking woman. And the wife looks pretty good, so that's my guess.

Most of my families in my prosperity neighborhood ended up with an oddball that looks like theyre not related at all to the rest of them. Hehe, I love the randomness of the whole thing. :)

I like that idea for aging up a person who is supposed to be an elder instead of using somebody as a placeholder and killing them off. It's pretty silly that you cannot create sim kids with just an elder; I bet there's a lot of children in this world that were raised by their grandparents!

As always, can't wait to hear about more! :)

ext_122042: (Default)
From: [identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com
Heheh. Some of the randomized families were like that, and I probably made a few small adjustments to make it make sense in some cases, but not many. And obviously, I ignored it for the alien children.

I can't take credit for that aging idea. I saw Madame Ugly do it. It's a great idea. I agree with you about how unfair it is that they don't allow elder parents. It's not like it's not possible. It might have to do with the fact that they don't allow the elders to have decent jobs (though I suppose the fact that they don't HAVE to retire makes up for it).

Thanks. I'll do a story-type post about it at some point. It'll be a different style than Strangetown, and I'll probably play around with it a bit more.

Of course for the alien children! Though at first I was hoping that I didnt get any of the "alien" result in the randomizer because I don't have that skin tone unlocked, lol.

ext_122042: (Default)
From: [identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com
It would be cool if the randomizer did include alien skin very rarely, but it would come up too much. You could always use one of the extracted Maxis aliens for the skintone too, if you wanted it. (In fact, that is exactly what I did here.)

I love that unlock all skin tones hack, though.

Date: 2008-02-27 09:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] xel-squirgle-ox.livejournal.com
I love using (some of) the hacks, though I share the game with my brother who is really against using all hacks in fear of it messing up the game. Same goes with downloads, so I just do simple clothing recolors in bodyshop if I really want to.

By the way, the introduction to my take on the Sims is up!

I'm heading over there to check it out.

So you have no cc at all? That's interesting. You can do a lot with just the in-game stuff anyway, especially if you have many SP/EPs.

Thanks. It's a funny name, and I want to keep the tone of this very light, to balance the drama of Strangetown.

That is a cute pose, isn't it? That girl, Alice Fisher, is very sweet. The Fishers are a fun family.

*snicker* Dildo. Who wouldn't want to live THERE?

You didn't get any teen lead households?

I did the same thing as you for elders with children/toddlers. I made them adult then aged them right away, so technically they are the parent. (I killed the placeholder for the teen household, though).

You did roll a ton of kidlets. That'll be fun for you come college time.

I know! *snicker* I would love having to write it as my return address, and you would never be able to go anywhere with your passport and not get a million jokes about it.

No, I didn't, and I was really hoping for it. The last time I tried this, I rolled a house with a teen, child, and toddler, and it was very challenging (you have to keep hiring a nanny to keep social services away). I was hoping to have some orphans here too, but it didn't work out that way.

I got that idea from you. I wanted the elders to be the parents in those cases. I already had a couple of families with grandparents, so I wanted it to be a bit different.

I know! I look forward to that. I like playing them through college. Some of the teens have met and are forming relationships, but I want to see how they all get along.

Haha, Olive(that is Olive, right?) and Worthington. That is so funny.

Ripp is blond(e?) with alien kids, how unlike Ripp! I KNEW that teen alien had the Ripp nose.

The Wolfe family has to be my favorite, the Nervous teen girl...is so cute!

TANK, he was the easiest to spot. I have a funny picture of him I took awhile ago:

He just looks so agitated.

Tank: The General would NOT approve.

ext_122042: (Default)
From: [identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com
*snort*

Tank: I want to become one with you.

Yes, the General does not give his blessing to this merging.

That isn't Olive. It's a female Don Lothario. A lot of the superficial genetics were randomized and changed, just not the facial structures.

This is definitely a different reality for the Ripp character. But as a single guy, he's left open to this possibility, isn't he? (I'd also spot the nose a mile away. *smile*)

For men, it is "blond". But feel free to stir things up and use either - we finally use the unisex "actor", so it's time to update the rest of these silly things.

Virginia Wolfe *giggle* looks a lot like Nervous. She's great.

Awww, Tank looks so much more comfortable in his own skin in this alternate universe. And Dick's (*snicker* yeah, it's funny!) oldest daughter, with the same goofy expression as her daddy - she's adorable :)

But where is Nigmos? Is it the Lamb woman? Oh, I'm no good at these guess-the-genetics game *lol*

*smile* Yes, I agree. I'm enjoying the confident Tank clone. He looks quite similar, but he's a very different person.

Dick's alien daughter is sweet. She's a family sim, and she's already dating the son in the Snow family. Dick has a great family. You can't see the little boys so well, but they're so cute. (I'm glad I'm not the only one to find his name amusing. *snicker*)

Yes, it is. Catherine Lamb is Ophelia. So, you're better at the guessing game than you thought...

Ophelia does have a pretty distinctive nose. It's easier to tell when you see a closer shot of her face.

So you have plans for playing her?

From: [identity profile] muslemura.livejournal.com
Your story has indeed given me a craving to play Strangetown :) The only trouble is I don't have Uni installed on my computer (it's a crappy one) and I really think both Ophelia and the Grunt-boys need a chance to spend some quality time with friends at La Fiesta Tech. They've had a rather lousy time as teens... Playing with aging off is only fun for so long, y'know *smile*

From: [identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com
Oh, that's too bad. I love Uni. It's probably my favourite EP. It's a great place for sims to have fun with their friends, and your college days really are some of the best times of your life in many ways. (I don't even mind how long it is, since I can never spend too much time with my sims.)

I feel your pain about the crappy computer. I used to play on one that was so bad that I could barely see the faces, and it crashed all of the time.

I really love Uni too, and I especially miss the opportunity to get to know them a bit better before their lives get too serious. When I installed last I chose OFB over Uni just because it's been a while since I played a business. *sigh* It won't happen again :D

I was going to ask where you came up with the name Llama Spit Cove because it's perfect for a sim community but then I read the end of the post and so that answered that. :D It's still perfect.

They are some great looking families. You really rolled a bunch. I only rolled for three. The Coles could be fun. Two adults and twin toddlers? Toddlers are hell to look after with no money. I found that out pretty quick.

ext_122042: (Default)
From: [identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com
Thanks. I love using llama references, since it's such a sim thing, and llamas are just cool!

I know. I have a lot of characters to deal with, but that's good.

The Coles only have one adult, actually... and he's actually an elder. The girl is a teen. They didn't have a lot of money starting out, and it was quite challenging. They didn't learn any of the toddler skills, and I usually try to do that (but I guess it doesn't really matter all that much).

Date: 2008-02-29 05:50 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] indigoleo.livejournal.com
The one family I had like that, one adult, one teen , one child, two toddlers. I never got them to learn one whole toddler skill either. The adult and teen weren't getting any sleep, either. Most of the time the toddlers were fending for themselves while the others went back to sleep. :)
