SimPE: changing facial hair colour

Remember when I was trying to make custom facial hair? I was trying to figure out how to make my cc project in a colour other than black, which is all BodyShop allows you to make. Well, thanks to
akatonbo I have this page at MTS2, which tells me to use SimPE to find the name of the file and search for other textures, but I don't really know how to search for textures in SimPE. This advice seems good, but it doesn't offer enough detail for my meagre level of skill. Does anyone have any helpful tips or direction? I know there are plenty of you out there who drop by here from time to time who know a hell of a lot more about it than I do. I'd greatly appreciate any help I can get.
Thank you in advance.

(You can actually open that file in SimPE and just LOOK at the contents instead of outright searching -- I had no luck searching either and have done much better looking by hand for textures I wanted.)

Custom sideburns, here I come! :)

Date: 2009-09-22 02:38 am (UTC)Oh, I see the link that Akatonbo posted already has the textures available for download.
But in case you want to do it yourself, here are the steps:
1. Open SimPe
2. Go to File -> Open
3. Browse to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Sims3D\ and open the Sims12.package
This package has all the facial textures from the base game, like lipsticks, eyeshadow and so on, including the facial hair.
4. On the Resource tree on your left you'll see three options, click on Large Image file
5. On the right, you'll see a long list of files. Scroll down until you find the uuface-sideburns-black0_lifo file. Click on it.
6. You'll see a picture of the black sideburns below, right click on it and choose export
7. Save the PNG file wherever you want it to be.
8. Repeat with the other colors. Keep in mind that the files that end in 0 are larger, and therefore have more quality.
Now with these textures, you can paste them along with your alpha edits in your sideburn projects on bodyshop. Once you are done with all the colors, you can either leave them as they are or bin them.
You can follow this tutorial to bin them correctly :)

Date: 2009-09-22 09:43 am (UTC)As for opening the file, I know how to do that, but I don't know how to find the correct file to open. How did you know that sims12.package contained all the facial textures? Is that just common knowledge in the modding community? My searches didn't turn anything up, but I guess I was searching for the wrong things.
As for the binning, do you know if it is possible to use the Wardrobe Wrangler to do it? It's probably better not to try it, I guess. Thank you for these instructions. I knew you'd probably have some good advice for me.
