I'd post this to [livejournal.com profile] wcif_sims, but I've already posted once today, so I thought I'd ask here (though I'll post there tommorrow if this doesn't work out). I'm looking for an extracted version of the Nervous Subject "clone" found in the data of Strangetown. He's one of those unlinked dead characters, so I'm also open to advice on how to extract him myself. I have no idea, and I'm a bit wary of messing around with SimPE.

As someone who's already using the idea of cloning Nervous in a story, you can see how I'd like to use him in a wink and nod sort of way, right?

I never knew! Let me have a peek in ST. Is his name Nervous?

Yeah, he also goes by Nervous Subject.

Pretty interesting, huh?

I found him, but I think I did something not all the way through, because I can't summon him in ST. I've been looking it up, though.

That's great. Thank you for looking into it!

I found him in SimPE too, but I didn't know what to do to unlock him. I'm sure there must be a way, though, since someone has even extracted the Default PT from the game.

yeah, that clone always got my attention, but those unlinked dead sims can be a problem to extract, so I've never attempted to clone him. I'm not even sure why he is there, tbh XD (I'll see if I can try today, tho, I'm curious about it now)

He was used in an early promo video for the Sims 2, called An Unnerving Day and he's killed off at the end by a satellite.

That's probably exactly why he's in the game as a dead character. Instead of reviving him, they simply made another Nervous (a cuter one, in my opinion).

Pretty cool, huh?

I'd be very happy if you could extract him. How do you go about extracting those unlinked sims, anyway?

I know there is a trick with unlinked files, I'm trying to remember how, but tbh, last time I tried was a very long time ago.

The problem now is that, unfortunately, I just noticed Nervous' clone is not only 'unlinked', but also says 'No character File' and for I understand that means exactly that. There's no file for the character. He's only an image.

I'll try a bit more, but not sure if it can be done in any way.(at least not that I know of). Maybe try recreating him, by using the image? He looks a lot like Nervous after all.

An unlinked sim can be relinked by changing a variable from 1 to 0 in the 'Other' tab (I forget what exactly it's called). Incidentally, doing this to Skip Broke (the real one, not the clone) will result in Brandi's unborn baby getting his genetics and having a chance of being a girl as well. :D

But yeah, 'no character file' is a bit more difficult..

oh yeah!! That was it!

I remembered there was a 'unlinked' something in one of the tabs, but couldn't find it. Now I see it. Is on Other/Misc/Unlinked it say 0x0000 for unlinked characters should be 0x0001?? (and in matter of fact I think I learned that from you, in the first place, but soo long ago!! lol)

But with 'no character file', there's no actual info to extract (for what I understand, at least)

Really? Well, that's too bad. I was hoping there'd be a way.

Thank you for looking into it! I really appreciate it. ^_^

I suppose I could recreate him. I did that with Nina and Dina's alien grandfather. I'm not sure if he's extractable at all, but I figured I'd just recreate him at the time, and tweek him to my liking. I prefer doing that with family tree sims most of the time anyway, since they're known for being straight template faces, who don't resemble their families at all (Lyla Grunt is a good example, since her face two has nothing in common with the Grunts, and she also has missing data, if I remember correctly).

Someone on MATY had revived Lyla (she does have data but it's broken, when I tried extracting her her package file would crash Body Shop), and her face was... er, explody. I'll see if I can find the link...

I hadn't seen that video! That is pretty cool.

I've no idea how to extract him or the other character files like him, though. Their character files are broken and incomplete, that's why they can't be cloned normally and can't be summoned ingame. I suspect you'd have to add in whatever's missing to make them work, though I don't know if that's even possible.

The base game neighbourhoods all look like they've gone through some serious modification before the release. Besides the clone of Nervous and several characters in PV (Skip Broke, Darleen Dreamer, Michael Bachelor), there's a whole lot of garbage files floating around, like wants & fears and relationships for deleted characters. Also, I found some broken relationship links that set Lucy Burb as someone "high up" in the Goth family tree (aunt of Mortimer or something silly like that), and some other stuff like that as well.

Yeah, pretty nifty, huh?

Hmmm, well maybe it's not possible. He probably would've been extracted by someone now if it was possible.

Yeah, I know there's a lot of "junk" floating around in there, and it makes the hoods sort of unstable, but I like when they're sort of interesting mysteries like the Nervous clone here.

I'm seriously laughing at Lucy in the Goth family tree, though. That's a pretty big wtf.

I think maybe Lucy's character file number used to belong to a character that was deleted... maybe? It's pretty weird, she consistently had relationships being Goths' spouse, sister, even mother and grandmother now that I think about it...

He could have been an earlier version of Nervous they made, and then replaced him later, OR EVEN; He's the Biological Father for the Nervous we know? His features look quite similar... and if you blended some of them with Olive *Ponders some more*

I'm pretty sure he's the first attempt at the character and they killed him off to make a video (see link above).

But, maybe... you might be right. He could be Olive's biological son. I've always assumed Nervous was completely CAS and not really linked to Olive at all, given the genetics, but that doesn't explain Olive's memory of having him. Then again, there's NO explanation for the "woohooed with the grim reaper" memory.

From: [identity profile] petchy-14.livejournal.com
Yea, But I don't think the video was the main reason. If it was, then wouldn't Circe and Loki also have memory of him?
I think Real!Nervous was made in CAS too - but maybe they used the "Create Children" part of CAS to get some results and then just had a bit of fun, then assigned Nerv. as Olive's and Grimmies' Son? Its more than possible - because I truly think Maxis would have wanted to take the easier option of just making a new Memory and not wanted to add MORE curfuffle of Olive and everything else.
Has anyone tried seeing if Grim sees Nervous as his own son? Maybe there is a hidden GrimReaper which is just a sim with the Cloak unhidden using the Debug mode in CAS?
OH THE MYSTERIES!

Nervous isn't actually linked to Grimmie in any way. The only connection is Olive's memories of woohooing Grimmie, then having Nervous.

I think the real Nervous is pure CAS also, and was probably linked to Olive after the fact. I think most Maxis families are like that. They're all altered in CAS, because the children don't often follow the rules of genetic mixing from the parents. They have unique faces.

From: [identity profile] meetme2theriver.livejournal.com
I'm pretty sure almost all the pre-made characters are "CAS-created" and have no real genetic connection to their parents (the possible exception being the very few characters who come with recessive genes, such as Romeo and Mercutio Monty, or the Grunt boys). I imagine the developers can do whatever they like when it comes to generating false memories, linking family members, etc. The pre-made memories are decidedly not a result of actual game-play, especially not in Veronaville.

I am pretty sure that the order that they appear in the game scene is the order that they were made. Pleasentview, Strangetown, Veronaville. I know for a fact that the first family that was really *played* was the Goths, by Will Wright, but there was little to no reference I can find of Strangetown or Veronaville apart from those videos posted above.

The Grunt boys can't be real offspring of Buzz. Only Tank even remotely resembles him, and then it's just the chin. They do have the recessives, though, so mayeb they were just heavily altered in CAS (the pacifier function gives CAS children recessives, so that's possible).

How is it impossible for them not to have played out the memories in Veronaville? I'm not so up on that hood. I kind of liked the idea that they were killing them off in-game, since I'm doing it much the same way as I play V'ville.

Oh, it's just that the memories are an absolute and complete mess. There's a whole lot of memories missing, and a whole lot of memories that make little sense. Looks like they were manually added to me. But only EAxis knows for sure.
