Sims 3: Failed Franny

Oh, well. Looks like you win this time, Mr. Worthington. Next time, though, next time...

I tried, folks. I really tried.
(Well, maybe not as hard as I could have tried. I got bored and gave up. His nose was impossible.)

Date: 2009-06-26 12:04 am (UTC)I really wish there were more options for fine-tuning features. They've even taken away some that are in the Sims 2 Bodyshop. I wonder if they ever plan to release a Bodyshop-type program. It'd give them a chance to redeem themselves in this area.

Date: 2009-06-25 09:45 pm (UTC)The eyes on FranceSim3 look more shocked than sad/hangdog. And those eyes are (at least to me) what makes Frances Frances.
(and that hair reminds me of the episode of "Seinfeld" where Jerry gets the bad haircut that makes him look like an eight-year-old)

Date: 2009-06-25 10:24 pm (UTC)This is a more straight-up version:
Like I said, though... I gave up before really attempting to fine-tune him. I was working on this over lunch.
I would argue that his nose is his most defining feature, and the fact that it's not even remotely doable makes it very difficult to replicate him. I may try to see if adding one of those mods that changes the slider contraints would help matters.
It's amazing how poor the selection for hair is in this game. I guess maybe they want to sell us the "good stuff" later in the Sims 3 Store.

Date: 2009-06-26 11:36 am (UTC)Honestly, if I didn't know your affinity for Frances, I'd have a hard time guessing who that sim was supposed to represent. To me that's a sims3 "thing". All the sims really do look a bit alike. Or rather, you have to WORK to find something to tell them apart (there are very few who stand out--like that albino family, they're a sims 3 Ottomas clan from what I can tell).
*scowls* That sims store thing still really rubs me the wrong way. Yeah, you can get the stuff without paying but it's just so off putting. But that's the nature of the beast (I think that's why I've never gotten into WoW and stuff like that, seems you get nickel and dimed to death with them).

Date: 2009-06-25 11:48 pm (UTC)I'm finding it hard to get things to match up between the two games, so often I make up the difference with my own idea of them in my head.
His eyes are looking a little Nervous-esque in your version.
ETA: By thin, I actually meant narrow. The thinness is spot on.

Date: 2009-06-26 11:40 am (UTC)But there's still that mushyness to the face (that's a sims3 thing). Like the cheeks are always a bit too fat and the face too rounded.
Or, I'm just a "purest" *snicker*. Really, seeing my favorites made into sims3 form is kind of sad. (I'm with strange on the prequel thing--I prefer to make my OWN prequels using sims2, not see mushy sims3 versions).

Date: 2009-06-26 02:08 am (UTC)I believe it was snob, neat, unlucky, loner, and coward. Not the same as my first thoughts, but they seemed like they'd be good for a lone Frances in my hood.

Date: 2009-06-26 01:08 am (UTC)CASSliderScaleIncreased - Increases range of CAS facial sliders by CASSliderScaleMultiplier (up to 5x; the option to choose is underneath)
NoSmilingInCAS - Stops that idiotic smiling in CAS, so your sims will look more like how you made them.
They're a godsend for making unique sims, trust me ;)

I swear I've done it at least five times.

Thanks for the tip! ^_^

Date: 2009-06-26 06:28 am (UTC)And yes, you have to keep re-downloading - he updates it really frequently. You need to delete the cache files every time to notice any change, maybe that's what you're doing wrong?
no subject
Date: 2009-06-26 09:18 am (UTC)I'll try deleting the cache. I don't think I've done that the last couple of times I've played. Since they're different files than in Sims 2, I'm not into the routine of it yet.
Thanks for that reminder. ^_^
Have you posted any pics of your more unique sims? I'm sure I've seen the results of this mod somewhere or other, but I don't recall anyone saying, "Hey, this sim was created with the new sliders."

Date: 2009-06-26 09:46 am (UTC)Oh, if the mod doesn't seem to be working, a good way to test is to enter "showconfig" (without quotes) in the cheat box. If you get an error message, it's not installed properly.

Date: 2009-06-26 03:25 am (UTC)I tried making Franny, too....I'll post pics momentarily...

Date: 2009-06-26 09:24 am (UTC)No, really! !!!!!!
He's WONDERFUL! *gestures to others* Everyone! Come here and see this!
His nose and his whole upper lip/mouth area is perfection. You should be very proud of this effort. (Did you use the new slider settings? I wasn't getting anywhere with the nose, so I gave up, but you captured it perfectlly here.)
Can you share him? Pretty please?
You even remembered the sideburns. ^_^ Though I must say, I'm really not a fan of the Sims 3 facial hair (and the stubble is awful). The sideburns don't even seem to meet half of the hairlines. That was a problem with Sims 2 as well, but quite the same way.
But yeah... !!! I must have this Frances for my game, if you're willing to share him.

Date: 2009-06-26 11:45 am (UTC)Seeing your Franny makes me have hope that sims 2 folks could be re-created (and look good) in sims3. You really got all of his features (the profile with the lumpy nose REALLY shocked me).
Bravo!
(and I'd also love to see any other sims3 re-makes you have)

Date: 2009-06-26 01:20 pm (UTC)Recreating sim2 is very hard with sim3, so far I've failed miserably, except for Nervous Subject XD (who came out nice imo)
Amazing job there!! :D

Date: 2009-06-26 09:30 am (UTC)Perhaps this will be the start of your Sims 3 sim recreation career? You're obviously very good at it.
Seriously, I'm still excited about your Franny.
