Is nothing sacred?

I guess the orginal was just too clean and simple. It needed to be more complicated and MOAR XTREME.

Ugh. I hate bad design.

...why would you do that, EAxis? D:
I've only poked a little at Sims 3, and it does have some nifty things (including some of the easter eggs; have you seen Murder in Pleasantview by Alexander Goth? :P), but killing the woohoo heart?? Just no.

(And as for the teaser in your other post, I have nothing to say except "Oooo, drama llamas. :o" )

Wait... tell me it's not a work by a sim who hasn't been conceived yet and there's another Alex in the family.

I haven't exactly played a lot, so there might be another Alex running around, but it does indeed seem to be a book about a place that doesn't exist, by a person who hasn't been born yet.

After hearing about time traveling Don, I'm inclined to think the book is from the ~future~.

See, EA should totally hire me to write for them. They obviously wouldn't mind my occasional continuity errors, MacGuffins, etc. They LOVE that stuff.

From: [identity profile] will-o-whisper.livejournal.com
Well, I mean it really makes a lot of sense if you think about it. You've got these little continuity errors that are so big you'd think they'd be impossible to miss. From all reports you also seem to have canon proof with Don that time travel is possible; it's also worth pointing out that of the people who could have been shot back in time, it was Don. Now, I love him dearly but let's be honest, he's not exactly the sort of sim who's going to be conscientious of not stepping on ants or breaking up couples or otherwise not messing with history.

Clearly strange things are afoot at the Circle K in the Sim-verse, and it seems to me that the only logical conclusion is that someone is trying to break history. That's why you can't possibly play The Sims 3 to properly match the canon established in Sims 2; history has been changed. :P

(You should totally be hired to write for EA. :) )

I think you've found their "out" for the prequel alternate histories. Well done. :P Don would do something terrible like impregnate his great grandmother without knowing it.

I hope he meets himself. I bet he would think he was an idiot. I'd be hate at first sight.

(Oh, if only... writing for a game would be such a dream job.)

Don would do something terrible like impregnate his great grandmother without knowing it.
That would be funny except for the part where it's entirely possible, even likely. D: Wouldn't that be the way? The entire space-time continuum destroyed, because one man couldn't keep it in his pants. :P

As much as I would love the idea of Don meeting himself, I don't think there's anyway in which that would work out...I've been under the impression that he's pretty close in age to Cassandra (and he does start TS3 as young adult), and both Bella and Mortimer McGrumpyface are children at the start of the game. So you figure, Don's parents are probably still really young too. He's probably not even a spermy yet. Then again, given the respect EA seems to have for time lines, nothing's impossible I guess. :') He would definitely hate himself, though, I agree. It's definitely a meeting I'd be interested in seeing.

(It really would be. I've wanted to write for RPGs since I was, like, ten and first played Baldur's Gate 2 /*dork*)

They certainly were welcome to change the design but I don't like the way they went about it. If I were them I just would've modified the TS2 design to be the matte style of TS3's icons.

MOAR FIGHT! DEATH MATCH!

The TS2 woohoo icon is definitely better in terms of... design and simplicity and not looking butt ugly, but the TS3 one cracks me up. It's just SO MUCH and it's HORRIBLE FACE is just... I CAN'T HANDLE IT. XD

It is rather amusing, I suppose, but I hate when simple designs are messed with like that. The woohoo hearts were so iconic. It was as recognizable as the mushroom or fireflower in Mario games. They were so simmish, you know?

WTF EAxis?

Seriously, the original heart is great! It's clean, easy to understand, and is goofy as well as lecherous.

The new design? looks like clip art you'd find on one of those e-postcard sites.

Did you know Maxis wasn't the developer for Sims 3? It's my guess why this version feels so strange to put it nicely.

Yeah, it's all EA now, and I suspect that's why the series is losing its way. They try to keep the same humour and feel as the Maxis stuff, but Sims 3 really showcases how far they've fallen. The compromising of simulation with other game genres is where they've really gone astray for me.

That, and I'll never forgive them for ruining the woohoo icon.

Never.

A couple days ago my dad showed me an article from the Wall Street Journal about TS3. You can see it here, but I'd like to point out the first paragraph in particular, where it mentions that one Rod Humble "didn't get" the overall concept of the game. It also mentions how he put in his own personal touches — at the expense of things we knew and loved for ten years.

Yes, it's true. *nods* Rod Humble has obviously never played with dolls.

I'm not sure. I haven't read anything about him since Spore. Maybe he's off dreaming up something new?

Date: 2009-06-06 01:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] simsinthecity.livejournal.com
Apparently, at least according to his Wikipedia article, he left EA nearly two months ago to head his own new think tank, which pretty much means that he won't have much of a say anymore in the Sims franchise.

I cloned Roddy in my game and I plan to use him in my story. You can probably guess what I'll do with him based on what I've said already :P

Did you clone the exact Rod Humble from the game? I've been searching for that! Can you package him? How did you do it?

Seriously, I posted to wcif_sims about this a while back, but all I found was a recreation on the exchange.

He's going to turn up in my story too. I've already referenced him in my Round Robin Legacy entry as being a door-to-door witness who tells people to prepare themselves for the "third coming" of sims.

I used the Sim Cloner by christianlov. I found it after simgaroop mentioned the custom skintone selector which is in the same post. Ingame, it'll be in Decorative>Sculptures, at the very front because it's *free*. Get and go to Clone Neighbor and then find Rod Humble (it'll be organized by first name, so finding him migth take a while). I don't know if it messes up the game but I sure hope not.

If Rod goes door-to-door like that in real life, he should seriously consider being a Jehovah's Witness. Ruining peoples' lives with God is better than with this, I think. As long as you don't live anywhere near him, that is. We should both be safe ;)

From: [identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com
Is there a way to make the change genetic? I'd like to clone him in SimPE, if possible, to avoid having to use the Sim Cloner in my main Strangetown hood. It's probably not going to break the game, but I get a little nervous when I read up on it.

There's also breeding him using InSIM... with a couple of quite generations aged up and re-bred with him again, I could end up with a set of pure Humble genetics.

Option 2 sounds like it would be fun too. :P

Yeah, I was definitely compating him to a Jehovah's Witness, or something similar. He drops by to every home, and instead of giving you a pamphlet, he gives you a whole new computer and a smaple of the game. He must be very serious about this new reality he's pushing on people.

Date: 2009-06-06 08:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] simsinthecity.livejournal.com
I can't say much about SimPE, I have too little patience to have any experience with it.

I have a story regarding breeding Humble. I was doing some SimSperiments in a test hood. I started with four CAS Sims and bred them with any Sim who walked by the lot. Rod ended up being the father of one child in the first batch, and let me tell you, that child was interesting. Not to mention the fact that improper geneticizing gave her green skin, too.

In today's economic climate, he must be very serious to give out new computers and games for free.

The new design looks a little /too/ eager if you ask me.
