Strangetown, Here We Come: Chapter List

title

For your convenience, I present a master directory of my sims stories. They are also organized under tags, but that lacks the human touch of having a little blurb describing every chapter, so here you go. I will update this post as new chapters and stories appear.

Warnings: language, violence, death, drug use, and sexual situations. These warnings apply to the stories in general, but each individual update will also has its own warnings listed.

Strangetown, Here We Come

This story is my interpretation of the Maxis neighbourhood, Strangetown, and attempts to stay true to the characters as they are presented by the game, at least initially, including the story prompts given by the game. It involves all of the characters in Strangetown in some capacity, and sometimes features appearances from characters in other Maxis neighbourhoods too. The focus is on the teenage and child characters at game start, and follows their development into adulthood. It's a coming of age story. And a love story. Well, several.

These are not my characters. I am merely borrowing them and stepping into their world to tell a story. This is within the spirit of The Sims 2 when it was launched, as storytelling tools and the means of sharing them were baked right into the game. The TS2 community has always been about making and freely sharing content and stories. This has been my small contribution to that.

That said, these are my characters. The way I've interpreted and developed them, they are my own. The beauty of the premades is you can make your own version, do whatever you want with them.

Chapter Twenty-Five (part two) - He couldn't keep the truth from Johnny. It was Johnny. His Johnny. Maybe he would understand. It wouldn't be so hard for him the understand that, right? They were all so close. All three of them, so intertwined. Johnny deserved to know the truth.

Chapter Twenty-Eight - A cut to events that take place sometime in the not-too-distant-future. Ripp is not himself, Ophelia seems to be up the stick, and Tank is harbouring a secret that weighs on his mind. Does he learn anything from any of this, or is his life just a sick joke?

Chapter Thirty-One (part three) - How close is too close? The trio are set to discover where their boundaries truly lie, if indeed there are any, and everything seems to be going well. Maybe a little too well. Then Johnny receives a phone call that throws off their delicate balance.

SHWC Story Odds and Ends

These story bits that aren't chapters, but are still plot relevant.

A Message from Johnny Smith - Johnny defends his uptight ways, and shows us just what he's up against.

Close to You - Ripp and Ophelia watch the sun set together.

The Banana Question - Sometimes a banana is more than just a banana.

Nice to Meet You - The Shifting Paradymes find a new drummer.

The Magic Show - Beau and Frances discuss the merits of magic (and belief in general).

Mirror, Mirror - Dina reflects on her life, following Mortimer's funeral.

Flower Shopping

Blind Date - Beau and Frances set Tank up on a blind date.

Conjuring the Spirit - It's Halloween and Beau and Lucy attempt to contact the spirit of his dead father.

The Life and Death of Jimmy Phoenix - How Jimmy got his name.

No good deed goes unpunished. - The how and some of the whys of the Caliente sister's involvement with Bella's abduction.

Free Will - Beau, Frances, and Tank discuss free will vs. destiny.

Breaking News - The alien controversy is all over the headlines, as is another recent scandal in high society.

SHWC Outtakes and Extras

There is no real rhyme or reason to when I post Strangetown outtakes, but I have listed them according to which chapters they refer to. As it is with many things, these were once a regular feature (it was more of a convention for sim storytellers at the time I started posting), but then became more sporatic over time.

Outtakes 01: prologue to chapter nine
Outtakes 02: chapters ten to sixteen
Outtakes 03: chapters seventeen to twenty
Outtakes 04: chapter 29

Shorter one-shot stories that relate to S,HWC, but are not to be considered part of the plot of the story.

Strangetown Christmas Special - Johnny, Ripp, and Ophelia throw a Christmas party in their apartment at LFT. This occurs in an alternate reality to the story, and thus, the events do not actually happen. Everyone is still in character, and hints of things to come are dropped liberally.

April Fish - The only proper way to celebrate April Fool's Day.

Strange Bedfellows - Johnny Smith wakes up in an unfamiliar bed. Inspired by the Kitchen and Bath Interior Design Stuff Pack.

Happy Mother's Day - Mother's Day means different things to different people.

Step into my office, baby. - Ripp Grunt seeks some much-needed therapy.

Short Stories

These short one-shot stories have nothing to do with Strangetown, Here We Come. They're different takes on the Sims universe from the one I have developed for the main story.

The Black Widow -
In another possible reality for some of my favourite Strangetown characters, Ophelia comes to a realization about her future. It's significantly darker than my usual take on things.

Bella Returns - Bella Goth returns home after her visit to a very strange town, but things are not as she expected them to be. Comedy.

All That Remains - Another dark alternate interpretation of Strangetown, based loosely on some of the character details from the PSP Sims 2 game and the idea that alien births are fatal.

Sneak Out With Ophelia - Ophelia can't sleep at night, so Ripp sneaks out with her to keep her company. A story about their friendship as teenagers.

Ooo, very nice. I should save this.

I can't wait for "The grass (and skin) is always greener in... Llama Spit Cove". I still love that name!

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-20 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, go ahead and bookmark or add it to your memories for easy reference, if you want. I'll keep this list up to date.

That's how I plan to format all the titles for the prosperity updates. "Blah, blah, blah... in Llama Spit Cove." It should be fun to come up with different titles. I want to start posting that soon, since I've completed the first week, but I'm getting held back by setting up the story, even though it's supposed to be a very light and loose story. I can't ever just do something casually - I have to over-think everything, especially at the beginning, but that intro post will come soon.

With a name like that, who wouldn't want to live there? It sounds charming, doesn't it?

[identity profile] indigoleo.livejournal.com 2008-03-20 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually I've been playing with my prosperity challenge families more then I've been playing Strangetown lately. Been having fun with them though.
Llama Spit Cove sounds like a wonderful place to live! :D

The prosperity challenge is a lot of fun, isn't it? It appeals to me so much more than a legacy, since you have a whole neighbourhood dynamic to work with. Legacies seems so isolated to me. I like the idea of following a family through the generations, but I want to see them interacting with other families too. The prosperity challenge takes care of that problem. The way I'm playing Strangetown is a lot like that anyway, though it's all about the story (and I can cheat all I want, for story purposes).

I'm going to have fun with "The Cove". I can tell.

Hello--I've been following your Strangetown saga since chapter 2, and feel it's time I was a creepy internet stranger and just added your journal, already :)

I'm loving your take on the aliens, and you've gotten me interested in the Grunts (in my Sims, Mary Sue Pleasant has ditched the cheating husband to marry the General, and both younger Grunts are crushing on their stepsisters).
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-20 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, hello there! :) It's very nice to meet you, and thanks for delurking! I love to hear from people who are reading this. Don't be shy. *looks out at the other lurkers with a hopeful smile*

(But don't get me wrong - internet stalkers are fine too, if they are reading and enjoying the story. Any reader is great. I'm just not a huge fan of the creepy stalker types who steal my sim photos to create posts for the simsecret community, but other than that, I'm totally cool with it. *snicker* And yes, that did happen.)

Thanks. I'm happy to hear that the alien thing is interesting to you. Sometimes I wonder if it's too simplistic, but I wrote it to focus on the breeding element, which is what interests me the most (and I am doing this for fun, so I suppose that would make sense).

Yes. Another Grunt convert! My work here is done. :D I'm all about the Grunts (now there's an obvious statement). I love your idea of combining the Pleasant and Grunt families too (I guess you have a combined 'hood?). I would LOVE to see a story about that. With the aspirations as they are, it's not surprising that those step siblings would be hot for each other. When I added the Pleasant twins to Strangetown for the purposes of Ripp's dream, they both had double bolt attraction to him (and I matched their stats exactly).

[identity profile] speedspin-88.livejournal.com 2008-03-24 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe...I'm an admitted lurker. I've been following your story since you posted Chapter nine. I don't think I've never really commented untill now. I think your story is amazing. I too have a soft spot for Ripp and the Grunts. I love to see people's rendition of the Grunts, Ripp espeically(sp?). Maybe someday I can work up enough inspiration to write a story of my own.

Oooh! Another lurker delurking? That's great. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for the kind words! I'm glad to hear that you've enjoyed it so far.

You totally should work on a story of your own! You could always do a shorter one-shot story to get yourself started. Not many people do those, but it would be a great thing to see. I also love seeing other people's versions of the Maxis sims, since that's the fun of the Maxis characters - that so many people can do their own take on it all (and I'm with you on the especially Ripp part - it's not hard to tell that I have a soft spot for him).

[identity profile] dothesmustle.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
I was watching Family Guy one day and this video kind of reminded me of your Ripp. The hair comment really did it for me!

http://www.planetvids.com/html/Douchebag-On-Guitar.html

It's towards the end of the video :)
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Are you calling Ripp a douchebag? *snort* (I love calling people douchebags. It's just funny. We like to use the name Guy LeDouche for any really douchey guys.)

The hair thing for sure, and the circle of chicks listening, do give off a certain Ripp vibe. He's not quite the acoustic singer-songwriter type, but there is something there. It's funny that you thought of my Ripp while watching Family Guy. That seems really random. :P

Thanks for sharing!

[identity profile] dothesmustle.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it was the hair part that made me think of him the most.

It was probably because I was watching the episode online, so my brain was in "internet mode," or something.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that makes sense. Still nice that you would think of one of my characters.

The guy in the clip didn't even have hair that was half as long as Ripp's precious, precious hair. Ripp could put that guy to shame. :D

[identity profile] dothesmustle.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I can't give Ripp any hairstyle other than the OFB one you gave him, 'cause he'll just look weird to me.

That is probably why his shirt is off, if Ripp ever enters a room, he needs to take the attention away from the pathetic excuse he calls his long hair!
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I've also noticed a number of other people using that hair on him now (sometimes I barely even notice, since I'm so used to seeing him that way in my game, and then I go "Oh, right..."). It's fun to start a trend. I also have a thing now where I always think I'm looking at Ripp for a second when I see that hair on another sim in someone's photos. I haven't ever used it on anyone but Ripp in my game, so I guess that's why.

*snicker* Would Ripp then have to up the ante by talking off his shirt too? To show off his manly physique? I can't imagine that Ripp is actually all that cut, with the way he eats and lounges around (and never exerts himself), but maybe he's just blessed with that excellent Grunt metabolism. I could see him as being one of those guys who just lucks into stuff like that, with zero effort.

[identity profile] dothesmustle.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It really suits him! That hair doesn't really look that great on my other male sims. First, I wanted to use that hair style that comes with Nightlife on Ripp, but it didn't look right, so I went through a bunch of gorilla heads and ninja masks and put on that hair style, and it just..fits.

Haha, I can imagine Stella in a room with some guy with his shirt off, and Ripp entering the room all jealous, so they secretly compete with eachother. Stella just kind of stares on, not really understanding what's going on.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-27 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
My one issue with that OFB mesh is that it seems to shorten the forehead slightly, but Ripp has a pretty long face, so it works well on him. I have another hair mesh that I like for him, so if he ever does get a haircut, he'll be getting that (and I do like his original hair too).

You were going to give him a gorilla mask? *snicker*

Stella would be furiously taking notes. :P

Photos are gone!

The photos in your stories are gone! They exceeded bandwidth, and have been taken down! I do not know if you are still reading these, but if you are, please try to do something about this.

Re: Photos are gone!

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. It happened to me a month ago too. I guess I'll probably have to look into upgrading my Photobucket account, since it's happening so frequently.

Thank for bringing it to my attention. I'll see if I can get it fixed soon.

Re: Photos are gone!

(Anonymous) 2008-12-02 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for working on it.

I don't mean to bug, but while the new pictures show up fine, I can't see any of the older pictures. I hope you can bring them back soon.

Re: Photos are gone!

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-12-02 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sorry about that. I have to upgrade to Pro on my Photobucket account, and had some problems with it the first time I tried (and then I put it aside and sort of forgot about it for a number of days).

I just upgraded it, so the older images should work fine now. I'm going to try this for a couple of months, since I've been having bandwidth issues for a while now, and using Photobucket is so much easier for me than the scrapbook in my journal (which is why you can see the photos in my recent posts - I was using the scrapbook).

All is fixed now! :)

Idol Worship

I have never enjoyed sim stories much before, but your story has really moved me. It has driven me to appreciate the sims' characters, the creator's thought into making them, the beauty of the game and it's possibilities, and the limitless bounds of your imagination. You should be very proud of yourself, to work out this whole story and entwine these characters so well. You've created an entertaining and mature piece, and I love reading it.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-15 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. Thank you so much. ^_^ It means a lot to me to hear you say that it has given you an appreciation for the game and the characters in it. I do think that's one of the beautiful things about the game and these hints of a story and shells of characters: we each can take that in any direction we want, but we can all relate to the starting point.

Thank you for reading this, and for your kind words. I hope I can continue to live up to this praise.

I'm working my way through your chapters (I'm now on Ch 17) and I just wanted to let you know to keep it up! I'm a huuuuge fan of your stories - I love how you build up your plots, the twists and the characterization / motivations of your sims.

I've followed some sim stories that ended abruptly and all the blogger would say was that the neighborhood had 'imploded' so I'm hoping that you'll be finishing this - wherever the 'end' may be :-)

Thanks. :) I've been following your comments, and thank you for leaving them. It's fun to follow you through the earlier chapters, because I get to relive them again through your reactions. I'm glad you've been enjoying it.

I certainly hope my game won't be imploding anytime soon, but that's a very scary reality with the Sims 2. Barring hood corruption, I hope to continue the story. If the neighbourhood does implode, I'll have to go to Plan B. I will put together something, either way. I want there to be some closure for this. The story has been going for so long now that I'd feel bad to just drop it.
