Sims talk: sim ranting
Hey, I just posted a rant at
sim_rants. It was my very first one. Isn't that wild? I just thought I'd share. (It's a slow news day.)
If you aren't a member of the comm, the rant was just about how I get irritated when people fail to name fortune sims by their correct name. I know... it's pretty important stuff, right? :P I can't lie, though... it irritates the crap out of me.

Elegant, isn't it? :P
Actually, it's usually called the wealth aspiration, but I see "money sims" all of the time too.

UK and Canadian English don't really use different words like that (the difference is mostly just in the way things are spelled), so anyone playing in English should have the same terms.
I've also discovered that there are different names for the aspirations in SimPE: fortune = wealth, popularity = friends, pleasure = fun. Again, this doesn't explain why it only seems to be an issue for fortune sims.

This, however, has always bothered me, and so I realized, "Hey, that's a rant!"

Ranting makes me uncomfortable, because someone is bound to get offended, no matter how you word it, or how insignificant it all is. Nobody has really attacked me for being culturally insensitive yet, but they could have. The PC police are always just around the corner... (and I've been on the other end of it too. I hate when people think that saying something incredibly sexist is okay because they're "just sayin'").

I LOVE how Free Time enables them to have investments though!
I've also seen Popularity referred to as Reputation. I don't know if I like that or not. *shrugs* It doesn't necessarily say *good* reputation. ;)
I don't belong to sim rants yet... I'll have to go check it out.

I see what you're saying about them blowing all the money, but it does makes sense that they'd want a nice home with expensive things in it too. It's conspicuous consumption, to show off their wealth (yeah, that's right, wealth - not fortune *snicker*).
I agree. I love the investments, and the financial counseling.
Popularity sims don't always want a good reputation, it seems. They like to fight too.
It can be pretty amusing at times. Now that it's a little older, it's not such a strain on your flist either. The posts used to be a bit overwhelming at first.

I've heard (read) sims being called Wealth for Fortune and Reputation for Popularity, like it says in simpe, but never 'money sim'. lol
