I am the centre of the universe: reason no. 85

The Sims 3 has been delayed until August because I am not even close to being mentally ready for it yet. I'm just that important. *snicker* The ego has landed.

Seriously, though, this wouldn't bother me in the least, and I think they should delay it to fix their countless, countless bugs, if they do exist (and, let's face it, they most likely do). However, I do feel bad for people who were getting really excited about it, and even pre-ordered it. *consoles [livejournal.com profile] cindyanne1* There, there. It will be okay.

I wonder if it's true? Seems likely to me. They delayed Spore for ages, didn't they?

Oh I don't blame you at all! I would have no desire to play a game that didn't run well. I hate it, even now, if my Sims 2 game lags for any reason. That's part of the reason my lots always look so bare and why I started off preferring the desert neighborhood. My Dell would always lag if I had a lot of landscaping and/or decorations, and while my current computer can handle it a lot better, I still think my game runs better with less decorations (that and I am a lazy sim decorator, lol.)

But I totally get that. I'd rather have a bare, boring and FAST game than a beautifully decorated slow one.

The little Cell Spores are so cute!

If Sims 3 really is going to be delayed I might have to reinstall Spore on my computer. I hadn't put it back yet after my latest computer Respawn (long story there) because it's so big and I was waiting to see how much space Sims 3 would take. Ugh.

Don't confuse skepticism for bitterness.

What's the saying? Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it? I think that applies in this situation.

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
*applauds*

That's why I can't go back to the game on my old computer. Yeah, I COULD play but it would be so slow and annoying.

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Or deciding to take out some feature (that they said would be in the base game) so they can sell it later as an "ooh shiney" EP.

[identity profile] simgarooop.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)

Wouldn't surprise me that they pushed the release a few more months. After the creator camp's, a lot of people became disappointed by the reports from sites like Parsimonious. Sure, everyone expects the base game to be a bit limited, but they weren't even going to allow importing of new textures, let alone meshes. A lot of people get the game to create stuff, so that was huge problem for them.

That was a very stupid move. Did EA seriously expect that people would be satisfied just with the hue levels on their new CAS. They really forgot how one of the big features of the Sims 2 was the early release of Bodyshop. People were doing clothes recolors and alpha edits before the game came out!

As for me, I'm not moving to Sims 3, at least not in a long, long time. I confess I considered moving my Brokes to the Sims 3 (in case there was a miracle and the specs suited my laptop), but the base game lacks: A. Aliens and B. Pointy ears. It's impossible to recreate my sims in there! :(

This reminds of Twilight Princess (from the Zelda games). That game was delayed over and over again. I remember I almost preordered it, only to find out it was delayed almost a ANOTHER year! :P

[identity profile] sleepysunshine.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait whut? I have mine pre-ordered and everything. Hell I bought a new laptop for that game... :

[identity profile] aledstrange.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
they weren't even going to allow importing of new textures, let alone meshes.

OMFG!!! :o Are they joking!!???
I haven't read much blogs about the game or the camp itself(yeah, that much I'm in denial rofl), but one of the main things i thought to be interesting was that it looked like you could import/use your own textures with their supposedly new-ultra-customizable features for recoloring

and no new meshes either?? C'mon!!! They would totally kill the game if new meshes aren't allowed. why they did the famous 'creators' camp then?? to show players how to change the hue in cas?? (or however the thing works)

once again, the more I know about this game, the less i like it!! O_O

...

WHOA. I apparently thought it was June, because I read that and was like, "Why postpone it for just 2 more months? What is the point in that?" ... ANYWAY. So I'm glad they're postponing it, and for more than two months >_> I don't want the Sims 2 community to dwindle yet. I WANT EVERYONE TO STAY AND NEVER LEAVE. Even the drama whores. XD

Oh, I think I've learned. It's not like I'd ever grab the game and install it right away, throwing caution to the wind. I know better than that. I fully expect there to be problems.

I just like to remain hopeful about these things. I mean, you'd think that THEY would learn from history, wouldn't you? They have to have picked up on some of the concerns of the community (aside from SuckRom - they just don't get it there, and I doubt they will). Right? ... right?!

Maybe I'm just naive.

[identity profile] javabean-dreams.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
LMAO. I have been pining for salt-and-pepper hair non-stop ever since I saw this rather dashing younger man with salt-and-pepper hair at the grocery store about 4 days ago. I seriously wish I was better at recoloring hair. :P And I agree, more age stages would be AMAZING. A late adult stage, since with uni we technically already have a young adult. Something to break up the 30 years old to 70 years old leap would be AMAZING.

[identity profile] meetme2theriver.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes. Like the ability to have babies or something.

They're trying to think of a way to explain it that doesn't make them look completely ridiculous, maybe. It's pretty funny to announce a delay so close to the release. It shows that they really don't know "what they're at" (to put it in Newfie terms).

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, but you do that with ghosts now, remember. There's probably some borked coding, and you can ONLY reproduce with ghost. That would be funny (crappy, yes, but funny).

Yeah, you will remain in this world a while longer. Your husband is relieved, I'm sure.

I feel bad for you. :( If I was excited and waiting for it, I would be pissed. But, yeah, it's not actually offical yet, so who knows...

(Argh! Sorry for the spelling fail.)

I have no doubt my computer wouldn't be able to handle it either. So it's probably going to involve an upgrade for me too, and my current computer is still fine. We're in the same boat there.

Well, it would be like playing Sims 2 with those mitt-like hands when you have terrible graphics, right? I did that when I started playing, but I wouldn't go back to that now.

It's okay to be shallow. Why put up with something you're not happy with?

[identity profile] simgarooop.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)

That's what I thought too. They were supposed to make it easier to recolor stuff in the game, that's what they said too! But I guess, they forgot to add "as long as you only use the patterns included with the game".

To be fair, meshing is not easy with the Sims 2 either. The game doesn't have an option to import or create objects, like we have with Bodyshop and the other program to make terrains and walls, and if we have so many neat options, it's thanks to the work of the geniuses from SimPe.

But the Sims 3 seems even more limited at the moment. Just one neighborhood, no options to import SC4 terrains (say goodbye to desert towns like Strangetown!), no options to make recolors of clothing or terrains. You can bet this delay is going to fix all that stuff!

The gameplay sounds neat, though. At least some elements I've read about. So I guess the Sims 3 will be a good title to play, but not to create or customize. At least not now.

I agree with you, to a point, but I do love having the option to add cc. It brings something extra to the game and lets us personalize it.

The amount of cc I use does affect my loading times a little, but it's worth it to me for that personal touch (and having something, anything, other than the Maxis eyes - if I added only one piece of cc, it would be default replacement eyes). I'd draw the line at lagging, though. That does take away from the enjoyment of playing, and even taking pictures for a story.

I pre-ordered it a few months ago, and I was happy that the time of it coming to me was nearing, but this means I have to wait longer! I would rather wait and have fewer problems however than have it arrive full of bugs and other troubles.
I also bought a new laptop that can run it! Just hope it's still running ok when the game finally is released.

I always feel bad when I make my little carnivore Cells eat the poor herbivores. :<.

Oh, this is fabulous news! I'm thrilled to have TS2 stick around for a few more months and be in the spotlight. Not that I've played since November or anything....

Still... considering that EA laid off a ton of people recently, it wouldn't surprise me if TS3 isn't ready yet. Not to mention, I'd rather they release a game sans bugs for once. Just ONCE! Not that I'm buying TS3, I like TS2, tyvm.

Sim Animals looks super interesting though, and it just came out for the Wii this week.

[identity profile] dothesmustle.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it would be so frustrating to have the mitten hands and the poorly defined faces. When I experienced lag after installing Bon Voyage about...a year or so ago? I didn't feel like playing the game at all. I don't want to go back to that. D:

[identity profile] aledstrange.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, of course, but with all the buzz about how better the customization system supposes to be, plus the camp and all the show, I imagined it would be more open for improvement than sims 2. Lets just hope something like simpe its even possible, if the game itself won't have a way to add new items to it.

Still my biggest problem is the way those hideous sim look (which hopefully could eventually be be fixed with CC or something), but aside for quality, i can't personally see anything outstanding on it, at the contrary, sounds very limited in most aspects and toooooo realistic for my taste! (wish they are planing to add some fantasy on the way, but doesn't look like either.)

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I do too! I never played Carnivores, although my son says you never have to make them eat other creatures. He says there's always dead animals laying around, etc. and then when they get to the tribal stage there are fish and eggs, etc.

My husband, on the other hand... he played a game with the most vicious Carnivore he could possibly make. :P You might be able to find it on the Exchange (is it called the Exchange for Spore?) Anyway it's under my name.... cindyanne1 and it's called the Gumbot. But beware of the Joeadons... those are what my son made and I swear they will TAKE OVER YOUR GAME. O_o

Spore is fun. I really need to think about reinstalling it.

[identity profile] meetme2theriver.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha.

Also, while the concept of ghost babies is cute (if somewhat bizarre), I'm gonna be sad if there's no alien babies. :(
