Hot Blond Downtownie

Am I the only simmer who doesn't like the Hot Blonde Downtownie? His "pretty" genes don't really do it for me, because I don't think template No. 1 looks good on male sims, and he's so poorly styled. Well, the shaggy hair isn't so bad, but the giant green glasses and the "Look Ma, I grew it myself!" teenaged goatee? Yeah, not really doing anything for me.

He's the focus of the new [livejournal.com profile] sim_mania challenge, which I'll be watching with interest. If anyone actually makes him look good to me, I'll definitely vote for them. I'll probably campaign on their behalf, in fact. But really... good luck with that. He's the reason chin beards were invented. *shudder*

I'm sure most of you will disagree with me, and you're welcome to it, but the HBD just bugs the shit out of me, so I had to vent a little. (I have to say that or you might think I'm better than you, or something.)

The timing of this challenge is funny, because I just made him playable to act as a minor character in my story. Yeah, HBD gets the plum role of Jaxy's mother's live-in boyfriend. It's not the sort of character he usually plays in legacies and such, but he wanted to expand his repertoire, since Sperm Donor No. 1 only gets you so far on your acting résumé. And he looks the part too. This will be his gritty, breakthrough role on his way to becoming the next indie film poster boy.

Exactly. Bland is the word I would use, but a guy with really weak features always veers slightly towards unattractive for me. I like strong chins and jaws and noses and brows. They're yummilicious.

Until they go too far... then you're in ugly town. It's a funny balance.

He's a breeder of choice, and I can see why. You're not getting anything extreme there, so your founders genes will shine through (and you won't be stuck with a Sandy Bruty mouth). He also has recessive genes, which I'm sure adds to his appeal.

He's pretty overplayed. I feel like taking him down a notch. I think he can handle it. ;)

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
*giggle* That macro just begged to be used, lol.

He is a bit grouchy. I think that's another reason why I like him. :P He's not grouchy enough to piss and moan but he's grouchy enough that you can believe he'd be stern if the storyline called for it (or a jerk if the storyline called for that too. *wink* He's versatile, lol)

Oooo... I'd love to see a sleazy Georgie! :D I know he could pull it off.

The main reason I like Ajay is he's the best OFB businessman Sim I've ever played. I never played him or liked him much up until then, but he blows me away whenever I have him run a business. I'm talking not only as I play it, but even when I send other sims to it when he's not playable. He's really amazing. Maybe all Fortune sims are that way though? (I don't play them a lot.)

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I noticed the Challenge is either to do your best or your worst to HBD. Hmmm... maybe I can make a big effort to make him look... bad? That might be interesting, lol!

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's a funny macro. :)

His personality did seem very versatile. I can see how you'd make him into a fun-loving guy, but he could also be easily molded into what I want him to be too. The fact that he's pretty will play off Jaxy well too, who's supposedly not very pretty. He'll be sleazy, no doubt. Her mother and HBD have a lot of problems. I'm still trying to decide on a career for him, though. I see him as the breadwinner, but I haven't thought of the perfect job yet... slacker comes to mind, but it's not completely right... I have this idea that he's aiming to make it big, but is failing. It could be some sort of show business thing, but I'm not sure.

I find Ajay interesting enough to play, but he looks very bland to me, so I had to rough him up a bit (thus the crazy hair, which I happen to like... and he got glasses and stubble too). I wonder if fortune sims are better business owners... they roll a lot of wants for it, anyway.

Could he be styled any worse? *snicker*

*looks at mullet*

Yes, I think he could. ;)

[identity profile] dothesmustle.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like his genes THAT much, but I have seen his spawn and they're pretty attractive. (I made a "joke" in my first legacy about him, basically the HBD not wanting to be all up in my founder's uterus, because he wants a BREAK. He must be tired. ;P)

I never really played with downtownies all too much, but
I was curious enough to use him once. I married him off to a sim I made with the elf template, their kids were pretty cute, but his genes were SO DOMINANT. His kids almost looked like exact clones of him, but with tiny difference. His last child, though, looked like a good blend and I used him as "sperm donor" for my legacy. XD

[identity profile] ikichi.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, you know I think I'm the only one who's never used him at all. (He's ok, I guess, but I have an obscene love of Snakeskin Guy even though he has a bad habit of talking about woohoo with children.)

[identity profile] simnovoris.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I let him throw his genes at one of my Prosperity founders once, she was a pretty ordinary-looking girl but with his pouty lips and big nose the kids (twins) ended up looking really awkward. Not exactly unattractive but definitely not "pretty" by any mainstream legacy standards, so I don't get why he's so wildly popular.

[identity profile] meetme2theriver.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
All regular townies/NPCs/dormies are plain face templates, but the downtownies are generated from a different set of full body templates. That's why downtownies have glasses, makeup, facial hair, etc, that normal townies don't. That's also why many of them have less ridiculous outfits than what random townies usually end up with (I'm looking at you, Goopy). They've been designed by EAxis that way, and I think many of them have slightly tweaked faces as well.

Most people just stick with the batch of downtownies that come with the default downtown, but if you've ever used a clean template Downtown that has no downtownies, and then generated new downtownies yourself, you'll notice that you run a pretty high chance of getting complete clones - 'cause it's using those templates. You'll also find some new templates that don't exist in the default set, like Sexy Goth Elf Dude (he's in dothesmustle's new legacy! ..well, he drops by and is rejected by Insane Camille, but yeah.). Doing that will scramble the personalities and aspirations too, as I don't think those come with the templates but rather with the default Downtown set...

Okay, I've rambled long enough now. <_<

[identity profile] meetme2theriver.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Less ridiculous outfits" is perhaps not correct in many cases (rave kimono wtf), but "less random" anyway... :)

[identity profile] x-illegal-x.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't particularily like him.

He's JUST NOT MY TYPE.

[identity profile] simgarooop.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)

Oh, it's 10-year-old face! I once married him into one of my early (and failed) legacies and I just couldn't shake off the feeling that my founder was a "crib robber" (or pedo) after she woo-hooed with him!

I think he looks like that (the beard and odd glasses) because he wants to look older. See, as a downtownie, he spends all the time around those hip and "cool" community lots, but he's often denied access to the nightclubs because he's mistaken as a twelve year old. How is he supposed to impress all those legacy heiress who are just dying for his sperm if he can't even invite them a beer at the Lucky Cards place?

I'm really not sure if he's an exact replica of a face one sim, though. I guess we could compare him with a grown up version of Brandi Broke's third child. I'll look for the pics I still have of David Broke...

I really suck at comparing facial traits of sims. But he looks like HBD, indeed.

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with you SO HARD, ST. I've always hated him, and I've never evn played him/married him in, blegh. It's the Face One, it bothers me so much. (This coming from someone ho married it in three generations in a row.) But he annoys me, with his little beard and glasses- ugh ugh ugh.

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It's because Brandi is face one, and he's a clone of her.

[identity profile] draggingbluelake.blogspot.com (from livejournal.com) 2008-10-01 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
lol Before this post, I had no clue that he was so popular. *shrugs*
I've only had one kid with him so far (the mother was Meadow Thayler, to give you an idea) and I'm a little worried about what she's going to turn out like. Currently, she bares a striking resemblance to Mick Jagger. But not young, unconventionally cute Mick Jagger. Old Mick Jagger.

[identity profile] muslemura.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
So that's why! I popped into my game this morning just to see if I was completely mistaken about HBD and some of the other Downtownies. (I wasn't :) At least some of them are slightly tweaked. HBD's lips are fuller and 'poutier' than face one and his eyes are bigger and more slanted. Since he's tweaked his features are very dominant too. A-and now it's time for me to stop rambling ;)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
That's interesting. I never knew that. So regenerating the downtownies is just going to result in seeing the exact same full body templates? Or are there a lot more than what's shown? I'm thinking I'll use an empty template on any new downtowns I add to hoods, since most of those usually suspects bother me.

Though Sexy Goth Elf Dude seems like a good one to have. I NEED elf ears for the Round Robin legacy, and so far plantsims seem like my only option.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Less ridiculous" is relative to sim outfits. :P The Nightlife outfits are the worst offenders, in my mind, but at least they're mostly full body (expect for those sweet tracksuits and the puffy vests - LOL).
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's cool. I like the idea that they're a little different than just the templates, and it would explain why people are drawn to HBD specifically.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man... I need to see a pic of the old Mick Jagger sim. You simply must show me. :D

He sounds awesome.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, HBD gets around. I'd say he makes decent kids because he's not too extreme (aside from the lips).

So do you often breed up your own townies for sperm donors? I thought you used replacement face templates too, or am I making that up?
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never used any of the downtownies, with the exception of maybe the Diva, so this is my first time. I'm losing my downtownie virginity to the HBD (damn, he WINS again!).
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I can see that. The lips are a bit much to work well with all faces. I think his recessive colouring has something to do with his popularity too. Too many dominant genes in a legacy gets really boring.

Heheh. Agreed. He's not mine either.
