Missing: Tank's scar. Reward offered to anyone who can find it.

I'm not sure how I managed to do this, but Tank's scar is missing. I think it might have been deleted in a custom content purge of some sort. I did delete the entire glasses/accessories folder, due to an issue that I was having (and I just had a lot of useless junk in it), so maybe it was in there. When I opened up Worthington's lot, Tank no longer had the scar, and oddly, he was wearing the General's face paint again. I don't have time to worry about what that behavior might mean (besides the fact that Frances ought to stay away from Tank for today), because I need to find that scar. A search on MTS2 found nothing, and I was sure that was where it came from. Now I'm worried that I found it in some remote corner of the internet and I'll never find it again. If you can tell me where this might have come from, I would greatly appreciate it.

(Oh, and there are some bonus funny pics. Just 'cause.)

Any ideas? I know that I had a matching one that was for the chin too, which is also missing. They're very simple looking, as you can see here.

Ripp: Have you checked the garbage? Sometimes Nervous puts random things in the garbage for no reason. He's pretty fucking weird like that.

Me: No, Ripp, I hadn't thought of that. (I wonder why?) But it seems like you're going to check it out for me...

Me: Did you find anything?

Ripp: Yeah... looks like I found something really good.

Me: Ummm... Did you just EAT something from the garbage, Ripp?

Ripp: What?! Yeah. It was still good! What's wrong with that?!

Me: That's just nasty, Ripp.

See? I need help. These sims are just not helping me.

ETA: It has been located! Thanks [personal profile] ndainye!

Glad I could help! Got lucky on my site search order.

Yay! Can't have Tank without that scar, now can we?

I've never seen a sim eat out of the garbage in my game. Never. Maybe if I play Ripp, he'll do it. Rotten armpits? Ewww. Why am I not surprised?

[identity profile] xel-squirgle-ox.livejournal.com 2008-03-04 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, Tank's got his scar back so he doesn't have to be embarrassed anymore! :)

Ripp's the kind of sim that I'd just leave on free will all the time because he's just so entertaining to watch!
I literally had to pull him away from Ophelia. And no matter how many times I told him to stop it he would go back to bugging her again! He missed work because of it.
Hehe yeah, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach... At least it is for Ripp. He sure is eager to please!

The way I finally got the neighborhoods back was very complicated and tedious and I really hope I never have to do that again. What happened was that after all of my neighborhoods vanished, stupid me decided to make 2 totally new ones instead of recovering the maxis made ones first. So those 2 towns turned into neighborhood 1 and 2 replacing Pleasantview and Strangetown. With many tries, I went into the Sims program files, copied and pasted the three towns into the saved game files, copied my two neighborhoods I created into a backup file, created 2 new neighborhoods in the game, and then copied the data that was in the old neighborhoods and put it into the new ones. I re-loaded the game and I saw that it didnt work, so I had to go to the files again, and re-name every single package in that stupid folder to neighborhood 4 and 5 instead of 1 and 2. Then it finally worked, but my wrist hurt from all the clicking I had to do. We're talking hundreds of files here, and it took about 3 hours.

I'm sure there was an easier way to do it, but at least I got the results I wanted from all that work. Now I just need to rest my wrist for a loooong time.

No, we can't let the scar "fall off" for a whole chapter, can we? Though I have had silly things like that happen before. (If you go over previous chapters will a fine tooth comb, you'll find dozens of continuity errors and things hidden in a shot that shouldn't be there, etc. It's funny.)

Yeah, I have seen Ripp fanning the stench of his smelly armpits up into his nostrils, and then smiling favourably, as seen here. Everyone else in the room is gagging, but he's just laughing at it. You've just gotta love him. (And his smelly armpits even get a mention in the next chapter. *snicker* So much fun...)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-04 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Ripp missed work because he was too distracted by Ophelia? That's just too perfect.

I agree. I see Ripp being very interested in those little details, like having someone to cook for him. He likes to be "mothered" (plus he's lazy, with no cooking skills *snicker*).

Wow. That does sound like a lot of work. I've never considered deleting the Maxis 'hoods, even if I don't play them (like Veronaville, which I played only once), but when I hear about experiences like yours, I'm glad that I just let it sit there.

Don't hurt your wrist! You need that for playing sims! :D

[identity profile] muslemura.livejournal.com 2008-03-04 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
So that's how the Ripp in my game got food poisoning... That, or the fact that he kept eating rotten food when he came to visit other playables. Try asking a food poisoned sim out for a date and you'll have a hard time keeping the date score up!

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-04 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Eating spoiled or burned food will do it too. Silly Ripp. (Makes me think of the scene where he's eating the burned omelettes that he tried to cook for Johnny. *snicker* Well, it was pretty true to his actual sim behaviour, wasn't it?)

Ripp does some funny things when he's not controllable. He takes forever to leave a house in the night too, in my experience. Many sims will say it's too late after 1:00 am, but Ripp often stays around until at least 4:00 am. Just last night I was playing (putting the scar back on Tank, etc.), and he stayed over there all night watching TV with Frances. (Maybe Frances took a hit off the bubble blower too.)

I would imagine that the food poisoned sim would just get sick and throw up, then decide that they aren't having a good time, and just go home. I hate when that happens.

[identity profile] ndainye.livejournal.com 2008-03-04 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That particular action once saved a whole houseful of sloppy, lazy sods, from a insim induce fly swarm. I was so sick of the fact that they wouldn't do anything to try and save themselves from suicide that I was going to just help them along. And then the mother stomped her feet at me and did the sniff armpits crazy grin and I was rolling I decided that if they were happy with being stinky, hungry and tired why should I let it bother me?

[identity profile] hidden-kitten.livejournal.com 2008-03-04 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Got it. I had to resent my computer, but that fixed it. Probably had something to do with networking and the router install. Thanks, though! Glad you found the scar, too. Hate to have a chapter postponed due to lost scars.

Well, that's good to hear! And we glued the scar back on, and now we're ready to get back to the task at hand! :P

Yes. Let them be what they are, and you'll probably come to enjoy it. I find sloppy, lazy sims to be highly entertaining.

(And how clever of them to win you over by amusing you. *grin*)

Oh, how cool! :D

(But is it okay to admit that part of me is reluctant about Sims 3, even while I'm excited about it?)

Of course! It's the end of an era, etc. Personally I'm very very excited -- but also saddened because I strongly suspect I'll need a new computer to play it at anything but the lowest settings. Unless they've taken a leaf from Spore and it's fancy no-need-for-high-end-computer programming. *crosses fingers and toes*

I'm kind of like that too. :(
I wonder if they'll put in any of the maxis made characters in TS2 into the game, like they did with the Goth family. It would be interesting to see where their lives ended up after the current game. I didn't like how the Sims 2 was like 25 years in the future though. I didn't mind that the time was in the future, but I think they put it a little too far.

It would be hilarious to see some of the Strangetown characters old and crochity wouldn't it?

Re: This is completely off topic, but LOOK!

[identity profile] saunasims.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Supposedly Mortimer Goth was based on Will Wright and Cassandra Goth by his RL daughter, so odds are good that at the very least they'll have the story continue with how Maxis envision her marriage with Don Lothario did/did not turn out.

[identity profile] xel-squirgle-ox.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting! I really didn't know that. I wonder if any other families have a chance of making it to Sims 3 though.

I'm thinking after the Goths it's an equal tossup between the Newbies/Brokes and the Pleasants. So likely all of Pleasantview. But surely they'll have Strangetown too.. And a dark horse contender might be the Landgraab/Laandgrab family. Maxis has had them mentioned/starring in both SimCity as well as TS1 and at least one of the Sim console games before.

I sometimes drag my feet and fear change, even though I do look forward to having more options, and I can't wait for them to make the genetics more complicated. (And choosing the shoes for an outfit? I'm THERE!)

Being a huge Strangetown fan, I'm also nervous that they won't include it in Sim 3, or worse (WAY worse, for me), they will, but they'll GET IT WRONG! I understand why people were so upset about the Goths in Sims 2. It's not that there is a RIGHT way to play them (and that's a major part of the charm of the premade neighbourhoods - we can each spin the story to our liking, even though we start in the same place), and I know I'll resent seeing the "official" story of what happens to them all.

Ooooh. I hope they go with the "fancy no-need-for-high-end-computer programming". Really, though... that would be a true technological advancement, wouldn't it?

You know what I would LOVE to see? This is the stuff of pure fantasy, but I would love it if they provided some feature to convert sims from Sims 2 to Sims 3. It would be great to be able to package a sim and then put them through a feature that will translate them to the Sims 3 game engine, while maintaining their basic facial structure, etc. That would make me happy. Otherwise, storytellers will either have to abandon their original and game-created sims, or try to recreate them manually.

It would be fun to see them old, but I'm just nervous that they'll give them a story that seems way off to me. I just love how it's not a set story right now, and we all play them differently, and develop the characters in our own way. The chances of me being satisfied with the "offical" story that Sims 3 might present for Strangetown is very slim. Yes, it would be interesting to see what EA/Maxis thinks would happen, but I'll bet it won't be half as interesting as most of the things I've seen players do (and not nearly as strange). I fear it because I don't want to be the sore loser who is left whining, "But they just don't LOVE them the way I do!" If it happens, I'll just have to accept it (and then maybe re-create my own version of how things happened).

If they did include a future Strangetown in Sims 3, I really wonder if they would dare to include things like Nervous Subject and Pascal Curious as a couple, since it seems so implied by the game, and the VAST majority of players seem to pair them off. Do they actually have to balls to include a gay couple that is more than just implied? I wonder about these things...

I agree, especially about the Pleasants. Strangetown has a decent chance of carrying over too, since it was also included in some of the console games.

That's one thing I hope doesn't happen either, so you won't be the only sore loser. And I doubt that Pascal and Nervous would become a couple... It's a game that is supposed to appeal to the masses, after all. :(

I agree. I know it will never happen, but that doesn't mean I can't dream. *imagines a world that is less riddled with heterosexism and smiles* I can, and will, continue to dream.

As will I! The world would be a lot more happy and peaceful place if everybody would just accept everybody else no matter their sexual preference.

One day, I would love it to be a non-issue. And to just see more mention of differences in sexualities in everyday conversation (and in the media). I resent the default assumption that everyone is hetero, and you see it everywhere. Why should we talk like it doesn't even exist?

And yes, I do spend some time "correcting" these errors when I see them. I probably bug the hell out of people, but sometimes I can't even watch commercials without pointing this stuff out.

For the game, I know that they have to consider points of view that are opposed to the idea of homosexuality, since they want to sell to everyone, but it still seems like a weak excuse to me. Acknowledging the existence of gay sims (and thus simulating life) is different from promoting the lifestyle. I know that some people would argue with that, but do they believe that gay people don't really exist, despite the evidence? (Well, I know that one opposing point of view is that it is entirely a choice, so I guess it comes back to that, as wrong as that assumption may be.)

I think they could do it. They've included other things that are considered offensive to some groups. I know it's a fine line, and I should be happy that they included the ability to do it at all, but there's always that dream...

*steps off soapbox*
