Triffids. Terrible, terrible triffids.
So... I borrowed The Chrysalids and The Day of the Triffids from a friend, and now I'm sort of hooked on reading John Wyndham. These are great books. If you haven't read them, I'd highly recommend checking them out. I'm going to have to seek out more of his stuff, I think.
Hmm. Now why do I have the sudden urge to make S,HWC more post-apocalyptic? ;)

Besides, they practically BEG for stories around them. ;)

Also- why do I see S,HWC becoming more post-apocalyptic? I mean, aside from your prophet coming, and PT 9 dieing... Go with your muse!

But with the number of recent rebel alien sightings in your S,HWC, instead I see abductions that don't always make it back to S,WHC. That possibly candidates could be impregnated, and also going on the trip would be the other half-breeds already being persecuted by the general pop, and they'd then be deposited on a new world to survive. Sort of a bit backwards to PollTech#9 and Jayne Doe's plans for Johnny. I guess it could resemble post-apocalyptic living.
This popped into my head after reading your 'urge,' if you hate it then please disregard it. You've got me hooked with your story and character development, and I look forward with much anticipation to your next updates.

I never actually read Day of the Triffids, but The Chrysalids is a favourite of mine. ^_^

The workload would be the problem, I think. I actually work a little better and I'm more creative when I'm busy, as opposed to having too much free time (work begets more work), but that might be a little too much. It is sort of appealing, all the same.
I think I prefer The Chrysalids. I would love to see a movie version of it. Of course, I get a huge kick out of the fact that it takes place in Labrador, which is next to "the isle of Newf." Science fiction right on my doorstep!
Also, your icon is killing me! That's so funny. I love the french translation (and so true).

Are there many stories based on apocalypse challenges, like there are for legacies? I think I may have seen one of them at one point or another, but I'm not sure. I agree that it makes sense for storytelling. It gives you a plot to work with.

Heheh. Well, I can't deny that it is a tendency of mine. I've written many stories like that over the years. I'm not sure it'll go all full-blown apocalypse like that, but there is potential for things to become more dangerous.
You know, there's even a canon basis to have a disaster in Strangetown. Loki's bio says he "keeps himself busy by trying to assemble a nuclear reactor out of common household items." Sounds like trouble waiting to happen to me. ;)

Well, some of what you said has been hinted at in the story already, if you recall, so it's not so far out there. They're looking at removing the hybrids and taking them back to the alien's home planet. It's not exactly starting over in a primitive culture, since the aliens are obviously technologically advanced enough to travel in space, but it is starting a new culture, which blends the two (considering that the hybrids will be raised more sim-like, thus far, but that might change when they move).
Ah, thanks. ^_^ When I hear that, I really want to get the story moving. I'm a little blocked on some parts of the next chapter, but I'm going to try to push through it (if I don't do that one now, there probably won't ever be a good time).

I'm really, really enjoying his stuff, so I'll join you in that dance of joy. Do you have a recommendation for which of his books I should try next? I get a good feeling from The Midwich Cuckoos, so that was next on my list. I think I'm going to have to make a trip to the library (which is just down the hill from our new house — WooHOO)!

I guess I thought a bit about it last night after commenting.

Drat. That usually is the problem. Oh well.
I like The Chrysalids because it combines two of my favourite things: post-apocalyptic settings and psychic protagonists. And mutants. Can't forget the mutants. (I got a kick out of the Labrador thing too, but that's because I have a thing for climate change as the result of a major disaster in fiction. The only other time I can recall seeing that was Neon Genesis Evangelion's rise in sea levels and Japan getting warmer after Second Impact... although I doubt those are the only times it's been done. Why is my parenthesized section so much longer than the other part of the paragraph? That seems somehow fundamentally wrong.)
:D I love my icons. (I'm very picky about them, since I only have a small number of slots. They more or less have to be perfect crystals of humour and fandom and prettiness in order to be chosen.) It would have been a pretty run-of-the-mill Canadian joke if it weren't for the French bit; I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I first saw it, or it would have ended up either a) decorating my screen or b) the cause of a coughing fit.

I really enjoyed Neon Genesis Evangelion. I guess I'm just a sucker for the post-apocalyptic thing, and I love all the pseudo-religious elements too. Well, I do until they go way too far with it in the movie ending. It was like crosses... blood... crosses exploding into more blood... and the actual impact of the whole thing was just lost after you became numb to the entended variations on the theme. They lost me at the end.
In fact, I think I prefer the original series ending, which leaves you more confused and wondering if that was really all there was. (But, that's a whole other discussion...)
They are good icons. And you're right about it being a superb Canadian joke. The polite thing is just played out, though it is true. (My SO got pulled over for a ticket the other day and he actually thanked the police officer at the end! We laughed.)
(Sorry for all the editing. My spelling is awful today.)

I think it'd be a cool idea for a spin-off story, though I don't think I'd have it in me to create a world to set it in.

If you had the computer drive capability could you add a premade 'hood, say even the Strangetown template, to your shopping district, they start with lawn living or primitive shelters recycled from what's at hand, and you could add things gradually as they find items of use?

The rules aren't actually all that hard to remember. They seem impossible to keep track of, but as Red said to me "Basically everything they want? Can't have. Then look at the rules to see what you've unlocked after you top each career. XD". I read through the twice, and then a third time when I was cleaning up the formatting before posting them in my own journal, and I'm pretty sure I know what is and isn't allowed.
But I haven't actually PLAYED much of it yet. >.> Kyle is waiting in limbo for me to download post-apoc/grungy stuff. XD

But as for your story, hmm ... well, you should know by now who I'll suggest for the role of bringing this about!
