CC project: subtle sideburns

After thinking about Ripp's sideburns some more, and some fruitless searching, I decided to try my hand at alpha editing.

Everything is clearly labeled, to avoid confusion.

1. No sideburns

2. My alpha-edited subtle sideburns - I can only figure out how to make them in black. Does anyone know how to toggle the colour in BodyShop?

3. My sideburns, again. Shown in black, to illustrate how they would look if they matched up.

4. Maxis sideburns

5. Tyler's sideburns (from GoS)

6. Fanseelamb's pointy sideburns (included with the Rufus Wainwright sim)

So what do you think? They achieve the effect I want them too (less stylized, and more natural than the other options), but I don't know how to make them brown. I'm sure there's an easy answer that I'm somehow missing. Anyone?

Also, what could be sexier than Ripp?

Answer: Six Ripps.

Thanks. If I ever get it worked out, I'll share the finished version.

I do like 5, but I wish it lined up better where it meets the hair. That sticks out a little.

That's good to hear. It's what I was going for, since Ripp wouldn't style them, but he also wouldn't trim them up perfectly neat. They would just sort of fade into his scruff.

I agree. It makes sense for Ripp. I hadn't thought about it before, but it works better for his character.

Oh, the effort we put in for the finest of details. It's worth it, though. Ripp gets a lot of face time, so I'll be happy I made the effort.

And your fans (and his!) will be glad for it too!

Ripp has fans? He'll be so happy! XD

I love that hair too! :D

CAN I JOIN? Lol, I'm always late to the party. :P

Ooh, I love them. :D Would very much like them in my game too, when you're done. I can't help with the colours, though. :(

I still need to attempt to respond to those chapter 29 comments, speaking of lj ettiquette. I really can't be arsed to respond to every single comment ever posted out of obligation (lj is really effing weird in that people seem to expect it here), but I do like to try to respond to the story entry comments. It's a bit like sending a thank-you card back to the person who sent you a thank-you card (No, please... thank YOU for thanking ME! *snicker*), unless there's an actual question or discussion, but I do want to be appreciative.

I agree. People can be so uptight. I will admit to feeling annoyance at times when people post something really off topic in a thread, but that's only if they didn't comment on the on-topic at all. That's "thread highjacking," right? Or just hanging out in the comments? I don't know. I usually don't care if it's a natural divergence from the topic, but coming in from left field is annoying in RL too.

We know this guy that we actually call Left Field, because having a conversation with him is just so random. He switches topics based on what he's thinking, but doesn't relate the connection to you. It's weird.

I'll probably tweak them a little more before I'm finished with them. Once I'm happy with the alpha, all I need are the texture files for the other colours. Where could they be? I'm so baffled by this. Hmmm, maybe there is a way to open those files and switch them in SimPE. I wish I was better at using SimPE.

Yeah, there has to be a better way, I agree. That texture file is in the game, if it's used for the Maxis burns. Also, worked back from black to brown is going to tough. Hmmm. I'm going to figure this out. I'm determined.

Thanks. If I figure out my colour issue, I will share them.

Heheh. What could be better than six Ripps?

Answer: Nothing.

Thank you. :) I will share them when I figure out how to find the other texture files for the base colours. There has to be a way.

Yeah, I can see that. Now you might try to steal him from Johnny and Phi, and that's working against yourself.

There have been philosophers that have convincingly questioned our reality too, so I'm pretty open to idea that nothing is any more real than anything else. I can dig it.

I'll be pleased to be able to call them "Ripp's sideburns." ^_^ That makes me happy.

It was one of the first cc hairs I just had to have in my game. We don't have enough nice curly hair for sims. That one is gorgeous.

Those are great. I really love 22 and 35. And 36 is another nice one with waves. I've always liked 5 a whole lot too. And 2.

Her website gets irrate with me all the time. She gets a lot of traffic there.

Funny thing is, I don't like Raon's male hair all that much. She always has it long at the nape of the neck and over the ears. It makes the cuts more feminine, and they'd be better if the length was more focussed on the top only. It's very much an anime thing, though, I think.

[identity profile] leskuh.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
ABSOLUTELY. We'll make a fort and gossip about our sims and it will be AWESOME.

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I just have to get through EVERYTHING ELSE I have to do. I spend more time doing stuff FOR the game than actually playing. :P

It's actually never happened to me before. She's fresh.

I like a small few of her Male hairs, but most of them, I agree with you, they're really exaggerated, feminine and anime. I hate it.

That's SO COOL. Iceland sounds amazing, but if you don't go, that sounds EPIC.

My mom's been to New Orleans. it sounds amazing. You'd love it, everyone does. :D

I've never been to a desert either, actually. It would be so weird to live in one, right? So DRY, all the time.

(Is it really that damp where you live? It's an island, so I imagine it is. That sounds crazy.)

Reykjavík seems like such a cool city to me, and I've wanted to go there for a while now. The volcanic hot springs would also be very cool to experience. We've been thinking about it.

New Orleans has also been on my list for quite some time. ^_^ It's just one of those super awesome places everyone needs to go at least once.

Yeah, deserts are so odd to me. It is rather moist here. It's not really humid or anything, but we get plenty of rain, snow, and fog (which is like living in a cloud - pretty moist). I actually feel different and sort of uncomfortable when I'm somewhere that isn't near the ocean. I think I miss the smell of salt and the negative ions. :P I need those ions!

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I do respond to everyone's comments, but I think it's because I'm OVERLY polite. (When I had less friends I read everything they published too, but now I can't even try, it's crazy.) But yeah, people DO seem to think you *have* to respond to their comment because they commented on yours, but it can get ridiculous.

Thread hijacking is more like jumping into a conversation out of NOWHERE, which I don't mind as much, but only if it's relevant, you know?

*nodnod* People do change the subject sometimes, it's so weird.

UGH I HATE THAT. I would never, ever hang out with him, I would just be so angry all the time. :P

One way that I know you can get access to all four of the textures is to export them in SimPE. Some info on that:

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! I was thinking that SimPE was probably the only way to access those textures, but I didn't really know how to go about doing it. I'll take a look at this and see what I can do.

Again, thank you! ^_^

Oh, Ripp has more than fans. He has GROUPIES!
