WIP: I need some opinions on this cc project

I have an idea for a new cc project. It's pretty quick and easy, using the icons again, but I need some opinions. The focus group has ~virtual~ coffee. All participants get a free massage (and maybe more) from Ripp.

It's just a simple thing, using this edited mesh (from Maxis Dreams, I think... I have to figure that out), combining the white shirt with the plain jeans, and adding a little aspiration logo to the chest, and colouring the sneaks to match. I'd do all the aspirations.

So what do you think?

My only concern is how blurry and pixelly the logo is when it's close up, but that was an issue with my woohoo icons as well. It's just the quality of the icons themselves. Does this bother you? Should I make the logo bigger? They're usually about that size, so I wouldn't want to go too much bigger.

Is this worth doing? Please inform.

Thanks in advance! ^_^

I love it, lol. Aspiration icon clothing FTW!

That'a a great idea:)

The blurriness makes it looks more like stitching, I think. Which is what those shirts usually are...

I'm not 100% sold on the blurriness = stitching angle, but it does reassure me that people don't seem to mind it so much.

I am considering some options to recreate it in a higher resolution. If I'm going to do it, I may as well go all out, right?

Love it!!

I think it's a really cool idea. Go ahead and leave the icon the size it is, it almost looks like it's stitched on the way a lot of those logo shirts are anyway.

[identity profile] swhedonberry.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the logos are fine. Most of the Maxian items tend to blur really close up, anyway. So it'll match!

Sooooo...about that free Ripp massage. Giggity.

[identity profile] swhedonberry.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, I think the recolor looks really good. I forgot to mention that.

I really like it, it's a brillliant concept.
Talk about wearing your heart on your sleeve! (Or in this case, chest!)

Go for it, I'd love to see the girls' versions too! :D

If it works out, I will definitely conder a female version. I can't this of a polo style mesh offhand, but I'm sure there's something out there.

My cc priority is always the guys, though, because they need it (and I love them so).

What a cute idea!

[identity profile] momijichan8893.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You should definitely do the whole project, just because it looks so awesome on Johnny. Plus the matching sneakers are sweet :D

[identity profile] kin-thalas.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the idea.
Maybe the blur effect of the icon shouldn't be so strong, but that's just my two cent :)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree. Unfortunately, it's not an "effect" so much as something that I can't control. That's just how the icons are.

My only option would be to replicate it in a higher res version, which isn't impossible. I'll consider it. That would give me a chance to play around with it a little more, and others could use it too. It's worth a shot.

Thanks. :)

I love it, ST. It looks great.

I do have a suggestion though, maybe you can move the logo so that it's between the lines, instead of it getting cut off by them? I love the idea though.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, maybe I could shift it up to place it between the lines. I do see what you're saying there, but that felt like the "right" placement. Higher might be okay, but I wouldn't go lower. Polos rarely have the logo that far down.

Thanks. I've always liked those Johnny polo shirts. I think dustfinger actually liberated it too, but I'll have to check the mesh to make sure it's okay. People have had issues with her stuff, I know.

[identity profile] leskuh.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww, he's so handsome. And he looks particularly green today, I do not know why, but it's endearing. *beams*

The blurry effect isn't too noticeable and I agree that it kind of gives it a stitched sort of feel. But I think I'm with Josh about moving it up or down - it looks sort of weird with the line through it?
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
He's extra lovely with his new eyes, don't you think? *swoons*

Yeah, it is a little distracting, so I'll see if it looks okay a little higher up. I think I'm going to change the stripes to blue too, maybe.

I would make it a smidge larger, and like Josh said, Move it in between the lines, But I think its a great project! LOL

good one! :D

Hmmm, I don't know about making it larger. It's already pretty big compared to the logos on Ralph Lauren and Lacoste polos. I do want it to be big enough to see, but I want it to look like the things I'm immitating too. It's a fine balance.

Thanks. ^_^ I've been getting the urge to do a lot of things for the sim guys lately. The poor things need more clothing options.

That's good. It's supposed to be a polo shirt, right? The style is right. That's always what I've condiered those shirts to be.

[identity profile] zepheera.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a fantastic idea, I'd definitely download it.

FAP~

ps I like it

[identity profile] will-o-whisper.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
The blurriness isn't really that noticeable; I don't think it would be a deal-breaker for most people. It does look a little odd on the line, and I agree with the everyone above suggesting to move it up or down.

Love the idea! :D The little aspiration logo is darling. Sim boys need more non-scenester clothes! D:

I couldn't agree more. And it's hard to find basic stuff that isn't skin tight. It's not that I mind having some skinny boys who wear tighty tees, but not all guys dress like that. The Grunts are neither skinny nor would they wear tight clothes, at least not the way I see them.

[identity profile] redqueenofevil.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the idea of aspiration icon clothing. I wonder if it would look better if it had the 'embroidered' look to it though. That way, it doesn't matter if it's fuzzy or not, it looks less like a graphic shopped on, and more like part of the clothing. Maybe changing the texture of the icon would help.

Good luck, it's definitely a cool idea.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you have any suggestions for an embroidery texture? Is there a Photoshop filter that doesn't look too filtery? I was thinking that some sort of texture would help it out, and I can do that if I recreate it.

Thanks for your help!

[identity profile] simfinite.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I love this idea! Personally, I'd make the icon a little less bright, and a tiny bit smaller. If you want, I could recreate the icons. I've got Adobe Illustrator, so I could make them in vector format, and they'd be scalable to any size you want. It'd be good practice for me. :D

[identity profile] coloredbees.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Could you try sharpening up the layer with the aspiration logos seperately? One thing I do for lettering on icons and whatnot is to make a layer with just the letters, clone it a bunch, change some of the colors to something darker on about half of those layers, blur them, and then merge them all - with the bright, non-blurred layering on top. It kind of gives it at all a dropshadow kind of effect.

Then you stick that on the shirt texture, and voila!

[identity profile] coloredbees.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and yes, aspiration shirts would be adorkable.

[identity profile] lizziero.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Have you considered changing the style of the layer for the icon?
Like putting a shadow or whatever?
I don't know about the blurriness, but it would look more like it was on the shirt.

I like it, though. ♥

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't want it to read as having a shadow, since it's meant to be stitched on, but a border would be a good idea. That icon is all one colour, and all I've done so far is slap it on there. I really think it needs something to make it stand out, now that I've thought about it (and many other people have suggested this too).

Thanks. :) These suggestions are very helpful.

[identity profile] saunasims.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
It looks excellent! I'd download it for sure. Hrm. Another idea re: the logo, maybe put it on a shield/lozenge/round backdrop instead of having it straight on the shirt? Or maybe line it out in some other colour? As I recall the Lacoste alligator's outlined in white on dark backgrounds, so maybe a black or midnight blue colour for this. It should help negate the blur and also make it 'pop' a bit more.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, you're so right. An outline would be a great idea. The Lacoste alligator is like that, so it would work just fine. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm thinking I'd like to remake the icons in a better quality, and then add a little border in some shade or other (maybe lighter blue, or green, like a plumbbob).

Thanks for this input. ^_^

why hello Johnny ;) ahah xD lol. it looks great :D

[identity profile] angelique5666.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
With my bad eyesight, I have to get all squinty on it to even see blurriness. I think it looks wonderful.

[identity profile] selenecorvino.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I like them, and they don't seem overly blurry and they're a good size.

Besides, who can even see those little characters (ie, alligator, etc) on shirts unless you know what your looking at.
