WIP: I need some opinions on this cc project

I have an idea for a new cc project. It's pretty quick and easy, using the icons again, but I need some opinions. The focus group has ~virtual~ coffee. All participants get a free massage (and maybe more) from Ripp.

It's just a simple thing, using this edited mesh (from Maxis Dreams, I think... I have to figure that out), combining the white shirt with the plain jeans, and adding a little aspiration logo to the chest, and colouring the sneaks to match. I'd do all the aspirations.

So what do you think?

My only concern is how blurry and pixelly the logo is when it's close up, but that was an issue with my woohoo icons as well. It's just the quality of the icons themselves. Does this bother you? Should I make the logo bigger? They're usually about that size, so I wouldn't want to go too much bigger.

Is this worth doing? Please inform.

Thanks in advance! ^_^

Sim boys need more non-scenester clothes! D:

I couldn't agree more. And it's hard to find basic stuff that isn't skin tight. It's not that I mind having some skinny boys who wear tighty tees, but not all guys dress like that. The Grunts are neither skinny nor would they wear tight clothes, at least not the way I see them.

I like the idea of aspiration icon clothing. I wonder if it would look better if it had the 'embroidered' look to it though. That way, it doesn't matter if it's fuzzy or not, it looks less like a graphic shopped on, and more like part of the clothing. Maybe changing the texture of the icon would help.

Good luck, it's definitely a cool idea.

I love this idea! Personally, I'd make the icon a little less bright, and a tiny bit smaller. If you want, I could recreate the icons. I've got Adobe Illustrator, so I could make them in vector format, and they'd be scalable to any size you want. It'd be good practice for me. :D

[identity profile] petchy-14.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yea.. I can see where your thinking from, I wasn't thinking "ZOMG FULL BACK DESIGN" or anything [LOL] just a teensy bit bigger, so from a distance (see first pic) its a smidge more noticeable, maybe this could be achieved with a black back border? I *think* I have a bigger version of the Asp. Icons.. Oh! found it!

Be welcome to use it :)

I'm tempted to do this for myself, But Its your idea so I better not Nick it from you XD

Could you try sharpening up the layer with the aspiration logos seperately? One thing I do for lettering on icons and whatnot is to make a layer with just the letters, clone it a bunch, change some of the colors to something darker on about half of those layers, blur them, and then merge them all - with the bright, non-blurred layering on top. It kind of gives it at all a dropshadow kind of effect.

Then you stick that on the shirt texture, and voila!

[identity profile] coloredbees.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and yes, aspiration shirts would be adorkable.

[identity profile] lizziero.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Have you considered changing the style of the layer for the icon?
Like putting a shadow or whatever?
I don't know about the blurriness, but it would look more like it was on the shirt.

I like it, though. ♥

[identity profile] saunasims.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
It looks excellent! I'd download it for sure. Hrm. Another idea re: the logo, maybe put it on a shield/lozenge/round backdrop instead of having it straight on the shirt? Or maybe line it out in some other colour? As I recall the Lacoste alligator's outlined in white on dark backgrounds, so maybe a black or midnight blue colour for this. It should help negate the blur and also make it 'pop' a bit more.

[identity profile] a-gates.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
why hello Johnny ;) ahah xD lol. it looks great :D

[identity profile] leskuh.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely, the eyes are basically the most gorgeous things ever. Johnny is the dreamiest.

It stinks, because that's like right where it ought to be, but the line is there too! Also I could possibly, maybe recreate a higher-res version of the aspiration signs? S'long as I have some sort of base image to start from, I think I could do it.

Yes, you're so right. An outline would be a great idea. The Lacoste alligator is like that, so it would work just fine. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm thinking I'd like to remake the icons in a better quality, and then add a little border in some shade or other (maybe lighter blue, or green, like a plumbbob).

Thanks for this input. ^_^

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, it's worth a shot. My instinct is to just recreate it, since I have a bit of an aversion to noticeable sharpening (though maybe it wouldn't be all that noticeable?). A layer in a different colour would be a good idea, as long as it read as a border, and not an actual shadow.

Thanks for the tips! :) I'll play around with it.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't want it to read as having a shadow, since it's meant to be stitched on, but a border would be a good idea. That icon is all one colour, and all I've done so far is slap it on there. I really think it needs something to make it stand out, now that I've thought about it (and many other people have suggested this too).

Thanks. :) These suggestions are very helpful.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you have any suggestions for an embroidery texture? Is there a Photoshop filter that doesn't look too filtery? I was thinking that some sort of texture would help it out, and I can do that if I recreate it.

Thanks for your help!

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank you so much! That one is much better. It even has the outline already too. Maybe I should have shopped around for a better logo before I started. :P

Where did this one come from? I'll need to track down the other aspirations too.

I definitely see what you're saying with the size, but if it was clearer, it would be more visible close up, and I think that's the key. Like I said, it's a fine balance.

Well, I'd prefer if you didn't rip me off completely (feel free to Ripp me off anytime you want, though), but I don't have a copyright on ideas. Feel free to take it and run with it (and you don't have to credit me for thinking it up, or anything so lame as that). If you end up making more cc with this, I can only win.

Thanks for your help! ^_^

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, that's a tempting offer. I'm going to try the version [livejournal.com profile] petchy_14 posted below, but if that doesn't work out, we can talk. ^_^ Thanks for offering to help.

On a similar note, I have an idea for a commissioned artwork, like we discussed before. I'm looking to get a drawing of the Shifting Paradymes that I can use for cover art for their debut album. Are you interested?

[identity profile] petchy-14.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Its not a problem!

I got it from at set of extracted Icons from MATY [I cannot for the life of me remember where; that site confuses me like hell!] and it has almost all of the icons for stuff like that :)

Ripp away! LOL

If you want, I can just get the asp. icons for you, I think I know where they all are; and Its not too hard to do :)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, I think I have the ones from MATY, or from SaraMK (I think that's how it's spelled...), anyway. Maybe I just need to look through the whole set in more detail. There are a lot of them.

Well, you don't have to, but I'd appreciate it if you did do that. :)Thanks for offering.

[identity profile] angelique5666.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
With my bad eyesight, I have to get all squinty on it to even see blurriness. I think it looks wonderful.

Hope this helps. I use CS3, btw

[identity profile] redqueenofevil.livejournal.com 2009-02-15 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
So what I'd do is:

1. Enlarge the aspiration symbol image size first (make it maybe 800X800, or some ridiculous size).

2. You may need to 'find edges' under STYLIZE before the next step.

3. Go to Filter, and under Stylize, select Emboss. Give your height about 4-5 pixels, or whatever you see fit. You just want to create slightly raised texture around the edges.

4. Next, go back to Filter, and under Texture, select GRAIN. Depending on how you like your embroider, grain types Vertical or Horizontal work best. I find that if the contrast is above 50, the texture washes out. Once you've found what you like, hit ok.

5. By now, you've got an embossed, grainy grey lump. Go to Image: Adjustments: Hue/Saturation (or CTRL U), click the Colorize box, then select the hue you'd like.

(To get an even powder blue look, I then went into Brightness/contrast- and set the contrast to about -33, and brightness to +77).

6. When you have found the color you like, resize your image. I edit big, then shrink the image, so the grain looks more like thread.

From here, I tweak the brightness/contrast until I have the desired texture.

Keep in mind that my skinning skills aren't great. I use photoshop mostly for photo editing.

You may just want to experiment a bit. I understand that there are brushes that create textures like this, but I've no clue how to get them to work in Photoshop. I meant to ask [livejournal.com profile] haughtysims about it, and keep forgetting.

I can't wait to see/download what you come up with. Hope this helps.

I didn't even think of that, but you're right, it does look like it could be stitching.

Hey, I know I'm a little late to say thank you here (I was sure I did, but I guess I got sidetracked o_O), but I recently revisited this idea, so here I am.

THANK YOU! :D

I'm going to make an honest go of this project, so there should be something available soon.

[identity profile] petchy-14.livejournal.com 2009-04-20 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh well!

Glad your Taking another Stab at it!
Its a cool idea, and Its very Simsy :D

Glad I could be of assistance :)

I like them, and they don't seem overly blurry and they're a good size.

Besides, who can even see those little characters (ie, alligator, etc) on shirts unless you know what your looking at.
