I am the centre of the universe: reason no. 85

The Sims 3 has been delayed until August because I am not even close to being mentally ready for it yet. I'm just that important. *snicker* The ego has landed.

Seriously, though, this wouldn't bother me in the least, and I think they should delay it to fix their countless, countless bugs, if they do exist (and, let's face it, they most likely do). However, I do feel bad for people who were getting really excited about it, and even pre-ordered it. *consoles [livejournal.com profile] cindyanne1* There, there. It will be okay.

I wonder if it's true? Seems likely to me. They delayed Spore for ages, didn't they?

This news ROCKS. I'm very happy, I wanted to finish my legacy before Sims 3, but I doubt it. (EPL will definitely be finished by then, since it's pretty short.)

And, it's been so long since your ego made an appearance! Maybe we should name it, for future reference? :P

That's the rub. THEY have learned. Learned that even if they hype something (and don't deliver) people will buy it. And even if those people complain, they'll buy the next ep and the next sp and pay for piece-meal downloads and eagerly wait for the next product in the franchise.

Yeah, optimism is nice but skepticism is much more practical.

I know. Can't they add the ghost baby thing and keep the aliens babies? People obviously like them.

I'm hoping the theory of an all sci fi/fantasy/supernatural EP is what they're actually planning. That would be very cool.

It is a drag for those people, for sure, but if this makes the end product better, I'm all for it.

Also, I'm just not ready.

Like you, I'm still exploring Sims 2 and having fun. Where storytelling is concerned, there's plenty left to do.

I read something about how EA weren't going to make an announcement about an actual release date until February 3, so I guess we don't it's August for sure.

I definitely think it will be delayed though. At Parsimonious, their review was saying they hadn't decided on things like install limits and whether there'd be Securom. And it hasn't gone gold yet, and I believe it should have gone gold already, for a February 20 release.

Personally, I'm having more fun with my game than ever now and I'm fully confident I'll be able to occupy myself with it happily until whenever TS3 comes out. So whenever they want to release it is fine with me.

Yeah, lag is a drag. I'd rather not play at all, if it's really bad.

I hereby dub the ego Ripp. XD

I'm so happy about this news too. I've finally gotten my game how I want it, and I've just begun learning how to create stuff! When EA said that the sims 3 was coming out in February, I was feeling very rushed and disappointed- like people would just be able to enjoy my work for a few more weeks. I mean, I know you and a bunch of other people wouldnt have gotten it, but it really seemed like they were trying to shove the new game down our throats with the latest EPS.

No, Ripp is my id. ;)

I am glad I will not be pushed for time to finish my story arc. I love my sims 2 simmies but will be inevitably tempted by the sims 3.

Yeah, you've expressed a similar sentiment, haven't you? You're probably dragging your feet even more than I am, huh?

Sims 2 just isn't over for me yet. Sims 3 should wait until I'm ready. :P

I haven't heard much about this yet, though I knew there were issues around cc creation.

Wow. That's incredibly stupid. At least half of the appeal of the game has to be the custom content and the ability to modify the game. We're not here to play a linear game. So very many of us see it as a tool for creativity.

The alien issue could be resolved with cc, if it worked the same way custom skintones and eyes work in the current game (though your comments worry me that it won't - I hope they remedy that). I had hoped that ears were more adjustable than they are right now, so the lack of that option would be very disappointing to me.

I honestly wouldn't mind if it was delayed that long. I'd be happy if they did that, and maybe threw us another EP, or at least an SP. Or just lots more Sims 2 Store stuff... which would be even better for obvious reasons. ;)

With these games, I would suspect someone would create something similar to SimPE for Sims 3. I hope so, anyway. If they are limiting what we can do, I hope someone finds a way around it.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's disappointing. I can see how people will be rightfully pissed about this.

I'm lucky that I'm not onboard yet.

Yes, even the drama whores, because they're OUR drama whores, dammit! XD

(Edited because I can't spell whores. XD)

I do hope the delay will make it a better game. They have such a bad record with bugs, so it would be nice to see them start off on the right foot with this game.

I know. It would be so awesome if it was bug free. I'd forgive so many other flaws, if only that were true.

I haven't even heard of Sim Animals. I should look it up.

Yes, this buys us more time to work on our sim stories and legacies before the community disappears. Then again, who know's how long it will take before everyone moves on or switches to Sims 3. I can see them existing sim by side for a while, until everyone eventually stops playing it. Who knows how long that will take.

I just don't want to be left behind. :P If there's a new game in town, I'll be tempted.

My ego is always here, but I don't give it the floor so often. It's name is ME, of course. ME ME ME! XD

It's very true. They know that people will buy it, no matter what. If we never complain about what they're doing, and continue to buy it, why would they change?

(And yeah, people pay for the Sims 2 Store stuff, don't they? That's just... yeah. If I couldn't get it from MATY, I would not have anything to do with that. The prices are just ridiculous.)

I wonder if those SecurRom law suits have had any effect? I haven't heard much about that lately.

Yes, but they're unlikely to add new interactions in an SP, unless they pull another M&G Stuff.

I just like decorative stuff, and I'd like to see more (and you're wrong, I can't make objects). FT provided some nice things for elders, though, so I'm happy enough with that.

Custom wrinkles would awesome, but it's unlikely, even for Sims 3. I would love to see realistic balding. I know I'm probably in the minority there (A glance at the cc hair for sim men proves it - especially that FtM trend), but I'm a big fan of real men, and they usually go bald.

Hmmm, that's true. Cindy did almost get there. ^_^

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm just spreading rumours. Who knows what they'll actually do. I do agree that a delay seems likely, though, given the things I know now.

They're not sure they'll include Securom? Oh, I really hope they decide to use something less invasive, but that seems like too much to wish for. *crosses fingers*

I feel exactly the same way. I usually stick with things I like for a long time, so I'll be content for quite a while longer.

I wouldn't worry about everyone jumping ship when Sims 3 comes out, but I do think some of the enthusiasm will die down. It'll get a little quiter, but I think the comm will last for a while longer. There'll still be some of us around here, I'm sure, even if it's less active.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I agree about the temptation. Even if I didn't want to switch over right away, I would feel like I was missing out. I'll most likely live vicariously through people who do get it for a while.

[identity profile] redqueenofevil.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
It's available for the Wii and DS, where it seems that EA has been putting a ton of sim games lately. Amazon has a video preview of Sim Animals, which is pretty funny/cute. Who knows if they'll release this for PC, but if they did, I imagine they'd have a lot of interested buyers.

That sort of thing can be very sexy. *nods*

I also happen to like a little receeding hairline. The game has one option, but it's sort of severe. How about hair for people who are "just a little bit" bald? I want it.
