Sims Talk: Bigfoot

This is for [personal profile] madame_ugly, who wanted a closer look at Bigfoot.

My plan is to move Bigfoot in with the Kim family, who will help him to realize his true star potential. Since the futuristic thing isn't working for them anymore (for those who don't know, the Kim family used to star in a TV show that was set in the future, like the Jetsons). There seems to be potential for a story there. Who wouldn't want to see Bigfoot's rise to stardom, and his inevitable downfall?

The Kim family wasted no time in getting to know Bigfoot. They joined him in his favourite hobby: fishing.

Doesn't he look great? (I need to figure out how to make default replacement eyes for the creature sims. I could use some of Lyran's other eyes to replace them.)

Here's a better look:

He's related to Kaylynn Langerak, I see. That's her exact nose. Too bad Bigfoot can't breed with normal sims. I'm assuming that two Bigfeet wouldn't be able to breed with each other either (and it wouldn't achieve much, anyway, since they're all identical).

His name is Alon Bigfoot in my game. You get a different first name for every new Bigfoot.

He certainly makes up for the lack of body hair on male sims, doesn't he?

He doesn't need a censor blur either, even though he's buck naked. At least he attempts to hide his shame.

For those of you who consider Bigfoot old news (which is just about everyone, I'm sure), how do you get him to move in with you? Everyone in my party is friends with him, and they did the slap dance, but I don't see an option to ask to him to move in. What am I doing wrong here?

ETA: I went back and tried it again, and the option to move him into the family was there this time. Bigfoot is a member of the family now. He's a popularity sim. I was amused by the wants that I found when I made him selectable.

Bigfoot wants to party. This will work well for his show business career.

There are some really nice animations in this EP. I'm still exploring everything it has to offer. I'll be sure to share any other interesting discoveries with you.

Well, you can woohoo with servos, right? Maybe they really do have detachable parts. :P

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
2. I like Servos having SOME of their activator's personality, but I want a little twist. Like when you have alien children they sometimes get wacky personalities. For story purposes, I too use the "Servo is created in sims image" thing. Except my Servos want to achieve BEYOND the personality given them by their sims (hence the Servos Rights Movement).

As for BV, I just think the "gotta get away" thing (for stories) could be achieved just by building a big "community" lot and teleporting sims there and making your own vacations. TRUE, you wouldn't have the beach stuff, but would my Peculiar-ites (in particular) really got to a beach? They live in the desert. Sand is what they want to get away from.

I'm also not keen on bogging my computer down with an EP that I don't think I'd use that much (and not getting it now leaves it available to me should my game start to get stale)

That's a good point that they should come "with a twist" in their personality. Like maybe they could have one category that was the opposite of their activator, and it was random.

That reminds me... do you remember how, in the original Sims game, sims would get their personalities reversed when they were abducted?

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
The first thing you see Bigfoot doing when you visit the Hidden Burrow is heading out to go fishing. I think it would make more sense if he had maxed talent in fishing and gardening, instead of everything, but he is well equipped for that outdoorsy stuff.

I need to check out this Bigfoot rage and scare. I know that one of the Kims fears being scared by Bigfoot, so I was wondering what that was all about.

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that I'm thinking about it, I do kind of remember the sims 1 abductions. I remember how the other sims would go looking for the abductee and their queue would read "looking for (name)".

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, right! I forgot about that. I did have a whole lot of sims abducted when I played that game. Having them get their personalities all messed up wasn't something you wanted to happen all of the time. It's not nearly as much fun as getting alien pregnant. That's one of the best things about Sims 2.

It's not the worst face template out there, for sure. I really like how Kaylynn looks, and it's a proud nose.

Do you use a default skin with body hair? I have seen some of them around, but most of them seem a bit too hairy to me, and I dislike how they make all of the male sims equally hairy. Some guys just aren't. I wish it was customizable, like the facial hair and stubble (like having four levels of thickness).

I don't have much desire to have hairy alien sims, since they look better hairless to me, especially Johnny Smith. When I see facial hair on him in other people's posts, it just seems wrong to me. Especially a chin beard. Johnny has a huge chin, people! Chin beards are for guys without a chin (hey, Gunnar, you should look into that). Likewise, Ripp doesn't need a chin beard either. Maybe I just hate chin beards... okay, who am I kidding? I even hate the word "chin beard". I'm pretty opposed to designer facial hair in general. Okay, I'll shut up now... :P

I want to see Ripp partying with Bigfoot now too. *snicker* How funny would that be?

By hair in "other places", what do you mean? *raises eyebrow* I guess you just mean arm hair, right?

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Why wouldn't they hit it off? They're both hairy, greasy, slobs. :P The only problem is with Bigfoot's inability to get his romance on. He's a prude.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

Or just a Bigfoot ass icon. That would be useful. It could say "kiss my big hairy ass", or something similar.

Yeah, I don't think he wears clothes. He's too large to work with the normal meshes. It's too bad.

He does have a work outfit that he wears. It's a vest. *snort*

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course. *wink*

I don't know, I guess I just prefer my men hairy. And Sims, too. ;)

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
EDIT: I found a pic, its not mine, but we use the same skin, and it adequately shows all "other places" where hair tends to grow. ;)

I definitely prefer my men hairy too. Why fight with nature, right? If I wanted someone hairless, I could always be with a woman. They're better at it.

For sims, I'm not completely sure. It's hard to make cartoonish body hair, and anything too realistic doesn't seem like it would suit them. I'm sure it could be done, but I have yet to see an example that really convinced me.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's different from the other one I've seen. It looks pretty good. I like that it's collected in the proper arrangement on the chest.

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with that statement completely.

Eh. I prefer my Sims kind of realistic, not entirely cartoony. It just depends. Matter of personal preference right? :)

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. I love this skin, its so great. :)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, true enough. To each their own. It's nice that you can customize sims with cc to make them more to your taste, and everyone has different taste.

For me, it makes more sense to just go with the underlying cartoony nature of sims. The "bones" of the sims are just cartoony in many ways that can't be changed by cc. Even if you replace the skin, hair, and clothes to look more real on the surface, the facial structures and animations keep that hint of cartooniness there. That's why a lot of cc just doesn't work for me. Things that are just slightly more realistic, I don't mind so much, but I don't like cc that tries to force the realism too much. I just don't think it works.

My main complaint about many cc skins is that they seem to paint over the actual features of the sim's face. The eyebrows are all distorted or the mouth is made all smooth and indistinct, and things like that. It's harder to pick up the genetic differences between sims, though I guess it does make them all a little more pretty in a generic sort of way.

The genetic detail is one of the more interesting elements of the game for me, so I want to make sure that I can pick out those details.

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand, I purposely chose a skin that would stay true to the Sims' face (and allows facial expressions to continue to look cartoony) and I continue to use Maxis eyebrows. I like the cartoony aspect of it, I like seeing their faces as well, so I like my skin. It works, for me at least. :)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems we have the same opinion about that. I think the "natural" Maxis eyebrow is actually quite nice.

That skin does seem like it might work for me. I think the hair is well done too. Much better than some others I've seen. Where did it come from?

[identity profile] indigoleo.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
I do use (I almost typed "yous". It's the NYC post!) a default skin for the hairy chest. I too, wish some could be hairier then others but you get what you can get I suppose. The one I have isn't too bad...a nice bit of chest hair, nice little treasure trail. ;)
A bit of pubic hair for males and females. No bits, though. I don't need that much realism! I don't mind the hairless aliens...to me it's a part of their alien-ness.
I'm not a big one for facial hair myself. On some sims, yes, but most of mine tend to be clean-shaven. Sometimes the stubble. I don't mind the stubble.
Most blonde-haired sims in my game will never have any facial hair. I just don't like the way the blonde looks. I guess I'm just weird that way.

[identity profile] indigoleo.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
MY SKINS HAVE CHEST HAIR, :D!"
LOL!

I use AnshinLango hairy sims as a default skin. They are the regular maxis skin-tones with hair. I like them pretty well.
They have chest hair, hair down the belly and pubic hair (no extra things). the ladies get nipples.
They also start with a little hair as teens, more as YA and even more as adults. When the sim turns into an elder all the body hair turns white.
Oh, and I got them at Mod The Sims (I guess I should say that, too).

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It's cool that they are the regular Maxis skins with hair on them (and nipples too - it's nice to have those). I'd like to have a skin that was mostly like the Maxis one with a few alterations like that. It's also very cool that they gradually gain hair, starting as a teen (though I hardly ever give my teens any facial hair, even, since they look like really young teens). I'll have to take a look at those skins.

It's funny, but not surprising, that this post on Bigfoot just turned into a big discussion about body hair. :P

Mmmm. Treasure trails are nice.

I don't need "bits" on my sims either. Like Barbies, I can just use my imagination.

That's exactly how I feel about the aliens. Especially with the way I've portrayed them as being hermaphroditic in this story, it seems to make sense that they don't have much hair on their bodies. I've also always considered their green skin to indicate a slight reptilian quality about them, which would also mean that having less hair would make sense.

I'm more of a stubble person too, but I will use the moustache for older male sims, and the full beard. Those goatees are okay too, for certain characters. Oh, and the sideburns are useful. It's mostly a character thing. I leave a lot of the male sims with a bare face too, or just a hint of stubble. The Grunts are all clean shaven, which makes sense with the military thing for me (and Ripp being the exception makes sense too). I find it funny when people give Buzz or Tank stubble, yet keep them in a military career. I'm pretty sure the military expects a more clean-shaven look. The General, especially, probably wouldn't ever have stubble.

I don't give my blond sims facial hair all that often either, since most of the natural blonds that I know don't have a lot of facial hair. I usually give the blond adult males the lightest stubble, if any. It's funny, though, since many people with brown hair have blond or reddish facial hair. It would be cool if we could mix it up like that.
