Sims 2 Battle Royale location?

I've been thinking again about the possibility of a Battle Royale type story using the teen characters from Sims 2, and wondering where to set it. An abandoned Twikii Island, perhaps? The mean streets of Sims City? If anyone here has read the book or manga or seen the movie, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Or even if you haven't, what location do you think might make the most interesting battleground?

Uh yes! An abandoned Twikii Island sounds pretty perfect, imo. Very appropriate, and it could be easy to set up redecorating and/or fixing some of the original lots.

I'd be looking forward to see what your do. Not only I love Battle Royale, but this kind of games are always really fun! :)

I think Twikii keeps jumping out at me because of all the landmarks, too. It has those large, imposing ruins and temples and the huge haunted pirate ship. It could easily be made to seem very creepy if it was abandoned. With the right cc, maybe I could even make it look like it'd been torched after the inhabitants were forced to move out.

I have the basic plot worked out for this in that I know who would die when (though not necessarily where and how, but I can work out the remaining details as I go). My main concern is the images. I'm not really sure I'd be able to pull off the violence (and blood) in the same way the original does. I'm still working on ways to work around that.

Now that I more awake than when I replied to your yesterday, I realized I got all mixed up and was actually thinking on the Takemizu Village Lots for a very japanese-ish look ROFL (sorry!! I had a long day at work rofl) tho the Twikki island is better and larger, and the old temples and such could work really well too.

There also the Moonisland (or something similar) template that's really nice because has water all around.

And about the "killing" maybe you could take a survival approach, more than a straight up bloody killing everyone. Maybe kids could disqualified if their need and/or asp. goes to low, or something of the kind.

Dunno. Just throwing ideas ;) I'm sure I'll be awesome anyway you do this.

I love this idea!!

I think that an island is the best place for this kind of fights: sims must ally with nature and adapt to the environment or die! *evil laugh*

The novel takes place on an island, though it mentions an earlier game in an abandoned neighborhood in the city. Both could work, but the island might provide more variety in locations. The island also provides a simple reason they don't try to escape. In the city setup, they'd need guards (but that could also be interesting).

Oh, I would *love* to see this! The story was set on a small, rather deserted island - so you could make somewhere like Takemizu Village more abandoned looking for the story. Or Twikii Island, since then it'd be an island XD

Takemizu Village is another option. I'd like it to be a recognizable Sims 2 location, so the vacation hoods seem like good choices.

It could also take place in one of the neighbourhoods, perhaps. Belladonna Cove has an interesting landscape and a nice variety of lots. I could see it working, too.

[identity profile] missadiasims.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
IIRC correctly, in the novel, the place where the Battle Royale happens *is* usually inhabited - the people were just moved out for the game. Because there are houses, a school and that sort of thing that some of the students hide in. I guess it just depends what you want to do with the story.

Yes, that's right. People were kicked out of their homes for the game to take place. It would almost be more interesting if some of the teens had lived there before it was abandoned. They'd have the added horror of seeing their home destroyed in the process.

[identity profile] missadiasims.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, that actually sounds quite interesting - taking a place that some Sims would know and having it desolate and deserted. Really, I think any Sims location would work if you are going to do that - it is just picking from the various options! :D

I saw you mention a worry about portraying the violence and blood. I'm not really sure what options are out there for violence and posing. I've seen a few pose boxes, but I guess you could just show parts of a sim, and describe the violence. Or close shots of arms, weapons and that sort of thing to portray the violence.

I'm really excited to see this - even if it doesn't follow the book/movie/manga it is an awesome idea to put the Sims teens in that kind of situation. LOL, I just have an image of Tank/Ripp/Buck standing up and saying, "But our Dad is in the army! He wouldn't let us be chosen!" XD

Aaaaugh! I would read the shit out of that sort of story, but it would also KILL ME. Especially if the kids had to legitimately kill one another off. D:

Well, most of them could get through it without killing anyone intentionally (the orginal story has most of the murders being performed by just a handful of kids), but it would still be horrible to see then kill in self defense or hide while others killed each other off.

One of the hardest parts is determining who would embrace the game, but I think I have that worked out. Some of the neighborhoods have more murder in them than others, so some of the teens have already been exposed to that kind of hate. It'll follow them into the game. Also, several of the boys have been trained in combat skills through the military. Whether or not they use those skills is another story...

I'm a sucker for this sort of story, too. It's always interesting to put familiar characters in a very intense situation to see where the emotions go. It's horrible, but also very engaging.

This is a great idea, I would love to see it happen. I think an island would be great, just not a tropical one. I have only seen the movie, and it looked rather... woodsy. An abandoned Three Lakes styled island, maybe? Any way you do it will be awesome though :D

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not too worried about having it match the source material perfectly, so I think a tropical location could work, as long as it worked in other ways for the story. I think Twikii would actually be really interesting in the off season. It could be very rainy and atmospheric.

I do like the Three Lakes idea, too. So many possibiliies to choose from!

[identity profile] jellybeanery.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Like I said before, any way you do it will be awesome. I really enjoyed the film and I love The Sims, so this is a winning combination :D

An abandoned factory. :)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
That'd be an interesting location for a scene to take place, for sure, and several of the neighborhoods would probably have them. Belladonna Cove has an industrial area, so it could work for that reason.

[identity profile] tov01.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey! Your considering this again! (Ok, maybe that sounded a bit too eager)

I don't think I have much to add that hasn't all ready been said, especially since I haven't seen the book, manga, or movie, and in fact wasn't familiar with it until you introduced it to me. But an Island makes the most sense to me, from what little I do know.

Going off topic for a second, the way yours and leskuh's Johnny/Ripp keep alternating (at least on my computer) is almost as hypnotic as the cult of frances icon.

I hope I'm not getting your hopes up too much. I really do hope to do this eventually, but I feel a little mentally fatigued when I think about the amount of setup required. Well, it could involve a huge amount of setup with weapons and effects and such, but I could also scale it down and do it in a more stylized way. I'm thinking of going with black and white for the images, and that might make it easier to create the right mood and portray the violence without too many props.

An island would make the boundaries of the playing area very easy to define, but there could easily be an electronic fence to keep them together in one area, which would be set off by their collars (something from the original story). I think it could work either way.

That's funny. They don't quite sync up, do they? It's a fun icon.

I was always a big fan of these types of games in the Woods- like it's set in the first Hunger Games book.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2011-07-25 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
This might be another reason to use Belladonna Cove. I think it has (or could easily be given) a wooded area, and also parks, industrial areas, etc. The more I think about it, the more it seems like it would work.

[identity profile] fallingrain757.livejournal.com 2011-07-22 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Going with something you mentioned before, the industrial part of Belladonna cove might be cool. It might give it a kind of urban dystopic feel if that makes any sense. :P

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2011-07-25 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
That does makes sense, and Belladonna Cove offers other interesting landscapes, too. It have the added benefit of having a higher ground on the hilltop and a valley, which could be beneficial strategically.

The more I think about it, the more I lean towards Belladonna Cove.

:D

I loved the novel Battle Royale. Personally I think I'd like to see your rendition in Takemizu Village or Twikkii Island. Maybe more Takemizu Village, really. :D

It would remind me of Lord of the Flies if it were on Twikkii Island. XD
