Look what I can do! :D

I learned how to extract small objects from the game and turn them into clutter, using this very handy tutorial by Azaya at GoS. If you're reasonably comfortable with SimPE, it's actually quite easy.

See that can of hot chocolate? I extracted that! ^_^

That's so cool! I tried that tutorial once, but I was not able to keep the texture of the chocolate can like you did!

But you're right, it is an easy tutorial. I extracted the single magazines (and made recolors, but I don't know if I ever uploaded those), a hamburger and a sandwich for my school lot :)

I tried a couple of other things, but they might be a bit more involved. I really wanted to extract the logic puzzle that knowledge sims play with in FreeTime, but it has two meshes — one for each side, while the object I'm using as a base has only one. I guess I could try to attach them in Milkshape, but then I'm not sure how to go about applying the texture to the whole thing. It's something to work on, anyway.

I'd like to see the items you've extracted. I'm kind of obsessed with having clutter extracted from the game. I have a whole pile of it in my downloads folder.

Was it a grilled cheese sandwhich? I really want one as an object for Grilled Cheese sims. :P

I know! There were some things I really wanted to extract, but they were too complicated for a Milkshape Newbie like myself (for instance, the books always appeared on their side, and I had no idea how to rotate them so they appeared flat against the table - luckily, I no longer need to do that with FR's books). I also wanted the hobbie meshes from Freetime :)

Hopefully, you will be able to make them work!

Let's dig my download's folder hmmm...

Here's all the stuff I extracted from the game, all labeled and ready to use, but I never uploaded it because my apathy regarding preview pictures knows no bounds! :D

I extracted the homework and included the seven recolors available from the game (the cute kiddie stuff like the gnome and elephant notebooks, as well as the grown up homework for teens and YA) - they are located in the Hobbie/Bookcases part of the catalog.

HOMEWORK

I also included my magazines (it is a mesh from Aikea Guinea due to my issues with the in-game meshes) and all the recolors available from Freetime and the base game. I do have a picture!

(The magazzines are on the bed)

MAGAZINES

And the random stuff includes a hamburger, a cellphone, a coffee bag and the sandwich. Sadly, it is not grilled cheese (it's the lunch meat one), but I think a couple of clicks from one of Aelia's color actions would make it cheesy! :P

My SO could coach me through some editing of the meshes, so I'll probably take him up on that. I already learned how to rotate a mesh pretty easily, so that would solve your book dilemma (though you're right that fantasy_rogue took care of that already on Aikea's mesh, so there's no need for us to repeat that work).

Thank you for sharing your goodies! I was going to get the cellphone, too, so that saves me the bother. ^_^ I already tried the coffee bag and then realized that Azaya had already extracted it, so now I have three copies. :P For a coffee lover like me, that's not a bad thing!

If I actually learn how to work with meshes a little better, I'd love to make more grilled cheese items for the game, like some large sculptures for Natasha Una's studio. I think that'd be a lot of fun.

I hope I'm not intruding here, but if I think Azaya already extracted that logic puzzle, at the bottom here (http://sixtylilies.livejournal.com/27743.html), if that's the one you mean. Hopefully that saves you some work. :D

Thank you! That does save me some work. ^_^ Now I can focus my energies on trying to extract the Seasons gift box, or one of the other objects on my wish list.

Isn't it fun? Now I can create all sorts of useful story clutter.

Splendid! :D Maxis clutter are the best.

I agree. I try to limit any additional objects in my game to Maxis extracted clutter or things in the same style. It really helps to add details for stories. I use these things a lot in my decorating.

I'll share my results when I get a few more. ^_^

THIS IS BADASS. Now I want to learn. :) Thanks for the link.

You're very welcome. ^_^ That tutorial is very easy to follow, and it doesn't assume that you know anything at all. There are a tonne of pictures, too. It's great.

Have fun with it!

Ooh. Are you planning to share anything you extract?

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2010-08-24 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'll share them once I manage to extract a couple of things.
