Triffids. Terrible, terrible triffids.

So... I borrowed The Chrysalids and The Day of the Triffids from a friend, and now I'm sort of hooked on reading John Wyndham. These are great books. If you haven't read them, I'd highly recommend checking them out. I'm going to have to seek out more of his stuff, I think.

Hmm. Now why do I have the sudden urge to make S,HWC more post-apocalyptic? ;)

Have you noticed how similar the opening scene in 28 Days Later is to The Day of the Triffids? It seems to have been heavily inspired by it. Triffids seems to have inspired many contemporary movies (The Happening also seems to use a very similar premise, to name just one), and it's always cool to get things from the source. I feel like I can enjoy things more when I know about earlier works that inspired them.

Heheh. Well, I can't deny that it is a tendency of mine. I've written many stories like that over the years. I'm not sure it'll go all full-blown apocalypse like that, but there is potential for things to become more dangerous.

You know, there's even a canon basis to have a disaster in Strangetown. Loki's bio says he "keeps himself busy by trying to assemble a nuclear reactor out of common household items." Sounds like trouble waiting to happen to me. ;)
