Strangetown extras: Meet the Worthingtons

I'm hard at work at Chapter Nineteen, but I took a little break to finally get into SimPE and create the Worthington family. I've been wanting to do this for ages. I could always wait to introduce them in a chapter with Frances, but I can't. I'm too excited, and that might be a while coming. It's not like it's a big secret (like the clones were), so why not share them now? I can't think of a good reason not to, so here are a few pics and character profiles for the Worthingtons.

The Worthingtons live in a lavish dwelling on the outskirts of Sim City, overlooking the cliffs. This lot comes with Glamour Life Stuff (Forsythe Place), and I made a few changes inside.

Frances Worthington II

sloppy/neat: 6
shy/outgoing: 5
lazy/active: 8
serious/playful: 3
grouchy/nice: 3

Aspiration: Fortune
LTW: Earn $100,000

You know a little about Frances II from Frances III reflecting on his obligations as son, and we'll get to see more about him as the story goes on. He's obviously very interested in a male heir carrying on the family name (well, they're up to III, right, so they may as well...). While he doesn't mind a little culture, like Frances' piano playing, he's very insistent that men act like men and women act like women.

In the kitchen, we find Linda, his dutiful wife. But be warned... everything is not as perfect as it would appear. (In fact, she left that oven unattended to go get a drink, and I had to make her go back.)

Linda Worthington

sloppy/neat: 9
shy/outgoing: 2
lazy/active: 6
serious/playful: 3
grouchy/nice: 5

Aspiration: Fortune
LTW: Have 6 pets reach the top of a pet career

Linda is a very troubled woman, but I won't get into the details about it. It was mentioned in a previous chapter that she had been in rehab, and this is true. Perhaps she is worried about her son? It's a very good possibility.

The Worthingtons do love each other, so their problems obviously stem from other areas. Yes, I created a triple bolt couple without even trying to. I didn't consider chemistry when I was making them at all, though they are both fortune sims, so that would help. I must have hit the two zodiac signs that attract each other. Frances II would obviously be a fortune sim, and I figured that Linda may have had the want to "marry a rich sim" so I went with Fortune too.

Next, we will meet the daughters. Otherwise know as the "failed attempts at having a son". I created them with the pacifier in CAS, without making any adjustments to them at all. Both Linda and Frances II were created from Frances III, by the way. I changed different features on each of them, so I think it makes them work genetically.

Not a bad looking bunch, don't you think?

From oldest to youngest:

Lillian Worthington

sloppy/neat: 4
shy/outgoing: 10
lazy/active: 4
serious/playful: 4
grouchy/nice: 3

Aspiration: Popularity
LTW: Reach the top of the Journalism career

Lillian looks the most like Frances, but could eat him alive with her personality. Lillian would have made a great heir to the family fortune, if only she had been a male. She is ambitious and socially connected, and she dedicates herself to a career in Journalism. Her hobbies include bossing people around and resenting Frances as heir.

Edie (Edith) Worthington

sloppy/neat: 6
shy/outgoing: 3
lazy/active: 6
serious/playful: 4
grouchy/nice: 6

Aspiration: Knowledge
LTW: Max 7 skills

Edie is most like Frances in personality (and a few other areas of her life), but is easily the most free spirited of the Worthingtons. Frances is closest to her out of all of the sisters. She is also a musician, and grew up playing the piano like Frances did, though she now plays drums in an all-female rock band and pursues her artistic interests. She only comes home to visit when she really has to for family reunions, even though she lives in the city.

Her name is in reference to Edie Sedgwick (of Factory Girl fame), who is arguably the original poor little rich girl.

Charlotte Worthington

sloppy/neat: 5
shy/outgoing: 3
lazy/active: 7
serious/playful: 3
grouchy/nice: 7

Aspiration: Family
LTW: Have 6 grandchildren

Charlotte only resembles Frances in her general meekness, and her willingness to tow the family line (and her lovely cheekbones). She is currently living at home, while dating potential suitors from other rich families, and her marriage will be as much of a business transaction as it is the joining of two people. As long as she is provided for, this doesn't really bother Charlotte, at least not on the surface. She is perfectly ladylike and hopes to have oodles of children one day (for the nanny to look after, of course).

I'm with Frances. Edie is clearly my favourite of the daughters. I've been wanting to use that "femullet" hair on someone for ages too. I just love it.

So, there you go! The Worthingtons. Questions, comments, speculations?

[identity profile] music-simbol.livejournal.com 2008-01-27 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm very intrigued. I've always wanted someone to delve into the mind that is Frances Worthington III. Even if he's used as a character, you never see the world he came from. So, is he the youngest of the bunch?

I love how you dressed all of them. I couldn't help but notice that Edie is the only female wearing pants, which in addition to her being a knowledge sim, makes her my favorite as well.

I looked forward to seeing how the family drives Frances into more mental turmoil! ^__^

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-27 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I find it hard not to delve into his family, since there is such a wealth of possibilities hinted at in his character. He obviously came from a wealthy family, so what exactly is that family like? And yes, Frances is the youngest of the bunch. When Frances mentioned that to Tank, he immediately understood that his father had been waiting for a son (which is not a problem that Buzz Grunt had).

Thanks. Those are all recolours of H&M stuff outfits (I have definitely gotten plenty of use out of that SP). Edie is wearing pants, yes. She's not into the traditional femme thing all that much. The hair is another hint. I was considering other aspirations for her, but she's definitely a knowledge sim, out seeking the truth.

Yes, this family comes with lots of baggage! Frances and Tank have that much in common, though very different sorts of issues are involved. It should be interesting to develop this.

[identity profile] aledstrange.livejournal.com 2008-01-27 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
WOW! Vary amazing! I love when people recreate maxis-made sim families! :D
So cool!
I have never been much into the Worthington, now I'l interested! :P
Are Frances parents files 'clonable' with Simpe?? I never even thought about trying!!

can't wait where thsi family is going now!

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-27 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
This isn't a re-creation as much as a creation. I just cloned Frances and made the parents from him in BodyShop, then created the girls in CAS.

I wasn't even aware that he had a family in the game... does he? I don't remember seeing one, but it occurs to me that I might not have checked either. Oh well, he gets the family that I create now, anyway. It's not like I'm locked in to following the Maxis details exactly (and I haven't been doing so anyway).

I've always been interested in Frances, and with his shiny new family, I'm sure that I'll dig even deeper into his character as we move along. There's lots of potential here.

Nope; the only person I've seen show up for him on a fresh play is Guy Wrightly from the frat house.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-29 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I looked into it after writing this. Frances comes sans family, and he does have just that one friend (probably through a wealthy family connection - Guy Wrightly's family founded that fraternity).

So, clearly, I'm doing him a major service in creating him any family at all... even a really messed up one. *grin*

[identity profile] amaryssobellus.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I like Guy. I had him fall in love with one of my many leftover spares on my legacy. He went on one date with... Tristian I think.. and they where all goo-goo eyes ever since. He also produced really cute kids. (With long chins) I should see if I still have pictures of them. I know the boys (Guy and Tristian ) are long gone.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-02-08 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't exmined the fraternity boys much yet, but I have gone into the sorority (for Ripp's sake - heheh). They may get used as peripheral characters in the story. You can never have too many characters, even if some are rarely seen.

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-01-27 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Looking at Frances II's jacket, I'd say the old boy has a touch of whimsy about him (leopard print? Frannie girl, you have to be careful with the animal prints. I'm just saying. . .).

I'm excited to see them in the story, too.

You metioned new lots come with the Glamour stuff pack. That's cool. I love new houses (I hate making my own and I've already cloned off some of the better ones in the maxis hoods).

So, will Tank be invited to one of the family reunions?

And as for Frances III giving pops an heir, I'd love to see Frances III get abducted. That would really rattles II's cage, huh? (hmm, maybe I should get my III abducted just to see what the kid looks like. . .)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-27 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
*snicker* Yeah, Daddy seems a tad flamboyant. Maybe that's where Frances gets it. But not really... it's more about expense and killing rare animals.

I'm so pumped to get them into the story now, and I have a quick and easy way to start in a few chapters... and it's not even via Frances.

Yeah, you get two lots with that SP. Pretty nice. Celebrations Stuff had a few too. I'm actually looking at the other lot (The Uplifting Loft) as a possible Fine Arts building for LFT. It's a bit posh for university, but maybe some wealthy art patron donated it in an attempt to lure "the next big thing" into their gallery. Yeah, that could work... (How long before I'm in BodyShop again creating the Sim City equivalent of Saatchi, I wonder?)

I don't know if that will happen. It would arouse suspicions if Frances brought a guy home, even if they were just friends. I'm thinking that they might drop in the see Edie on another trip to the city. If Tank enjoyed their first trip in, that is. Maybe Frances will get up the nerve to introduce Tank to his sister.

Speaking of the sisters, I just realized that the set of three bears more than a slight resemblance to the Grunts in their general personalities. I didn't really intend that, since I used a completely different inspiration for the girls. Maybe it's just a typical pattern in families.

Frances makes a very good candidate for an abduction. Let's just say that he meets nearly ALL of their criteria. He will definitely be noticed by potential abductors. I'd love to see what his alien kids would look like too, since he has distinct features.

[identity profile] pixelcurious.livejournal.com 2008-01-27 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the way you invent backstory based on the few little clues the game gives. And it totally fits. The trying-for-a-son business, for instance. I'm already thinking about the effect that must have on the daughters, depending on their individual personalities. It must suck knowing you weren't what your dad wanted. Then Francis comes along, and he doesn't fully meet his father's criteria either (though I'm guessing Daddy doesn't know everything yet? Imagine coming out in those circumstances.)

Linda is a lush, eh? And maybe more. Way to almost set the house on fire, Mom.

The daughters all look really good. Perfect for their personalities. And Edie's my favorite, though that's probably a given... :)

ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-27 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so much fun to invent backstories like this. I like the "holding out for a son" thing (well, I hate it, but you get the idea). I always wonder what people are thinking with things like that. I assume that the whole alternative gender/sexuality thing is so out of the question for them that it makes some kind of sense. But what a heap of pressure to put on someone!

It's easy to see why Frances is very much in the closet, isn't it? That would be a very bad situation to come out to. Some of his family members might know, and others might suspect, though. Edie knows. Daddy definitely does not.

Yeah, Linda has some substance abuse problems. I love how the sim totally lived up to the character I had already invented for her. They really know sometimes, I swear... It's almost scary.

Thanks! I think they match up pretty well too. I had a certain look in mind for each of them, so I kept rolling the pacifier until I got something that seemed to work. Frances has lips to die for when they're on a woman too. It's quite nice. Very cupid's bow. Lillian has seriously tiny nose, though... Frances has a small nose for a male sim. It's almost alien looking on a girl.

Edie is great, isn't she? I can tell that she'll be one of my favourites already. I have a number of ways to weave her into the tale in mind already. Now I'll have to go create the rest of her band too... once you get started with this, it gets out of hand, doesn't it?

[identity profile] pixelcurious.livejournal.com 2008-01-28 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Lillian's nose looks like maybe it had some work done.

Getting out of hand... don't I know it. ^_^;;
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-28 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Some work done... *snicker* That's exactly what it looks like! But alas, that's just what Frances Worthington's nose looks like on a woman. It's teeny tiny!

At least creating new characters is fun! It doesn't feel so much like work.

Making the all-girl rock band would be fun. I could simplify matters by making it a only three members. I could base them on one of my favourites, Sleater Kinney, which had only three members.

[identity profile] indigoleo.livejournal.com 2008-01-27 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. They all look great. And Linda walking away from the oven to get a drink, that's just Too perfect, considering what you've already hinted about her.
I like the "femullet" too. Heh, heh...I now have "He's a Rebel" running through my head. See what you did?
I have a feeling Lillian could cause Frances some grief along the line. Of course, maybe she would be justified feeling that way. It has to be hard knowing she's "just a girl" so therefore useless. (oh I hate people who think like that!)
It should be very interesting to see what develops now. And fun!
*sings* He's a rebel and he'll never be any good. He's a rebel 'cause he never never does what he should...*
I swear that song is stuck in my head now! LOL!
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-28 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I'm pretty happy with them. It's just frightening how the sim Linda fell right into the role of her character! She's perfect. I gave her a nice tragic Marilyn Monroe vibe with her look too.

Femullets for the win! One of my regrets in life may be that I never had one (though I had a couple of regrettable "shags"... not really the same thing). I'd also love to shave my head, or at least get a pixie haircut, before I die.

Heheh. I gave you an ear worm (kinda). He's a rebel...

Yes, Lillian might cause grief, but maybe nothing really vindictive. I'm not sure if she resents him THAT much, but she does think that he's been handed the world on a silver spoon, and he doesn't really deserve it.

I'm no big fan of rigid gender-based views on life, as I'm sure you know. It pains my to think of how the girls must feel, but I know that this sort of thing does happen (even if the parents don't come right out and say it).

At least Frances can take some comfort in knowing that Tank's family isn't picture-perfect either.

[identity profile] indigoleo.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I never had a shag or anything like that myself. My hair is very straight so I've always either wore it long and straight or short and straight. Every now and then I'd perm it. I can say I have had a pixie cut a few times.
My most regrettable hair cut/style was when I had a home permanent done when I had short hair. And lots and lots of body.

I looked like a friggin' poodle.

I don't like poodles.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-02-08 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh. I've also had a couple of unfortunate perms. Yes, not one, but two. I was mostly forced into them by my mother (I was pretty young at the time), since I also have very straight hair. She thought it was getting ratty, so I was offered the option of cutting it or perming it.

After the second perm, I quickly switched to the cutting option. *grin* It stayed in some form of bob or layered shaggy thing until I grew it out, long and parted in the middle. Oh, hair... so much fun. There are some photos that I would love to burn.

[identity profile] dothesmustle.livejournal.com 2008-01-27 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the backstory of the Worthingtons, I was curious about Frances, since he wasn't really shown much, we really don't know much about him, yet. The trying for a son story is interesting!

I have a feeling about Lillian. I don't think Frances will be the one telling his family of his sexuality, Lillian trying to bring him down might? She seems like the type of person who will stop at nothing to get what she wants, I don't know, I'm probably completely off :P

I really like Edie, will her musical backround connect her to Ripp? :D
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-28 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
We've only been getting tiny glimpses of Frances here and there, and it's mostly limited to his interactions with Tank. It will be nice to give him more of his own story.

Hmmm. That's an interesting idea about Lillian. That might be something she'd want to do, if she's that sort of person (and she might not be). It would only work if Frances doesn't do so himself. It would only be a problem if he plans to "fake it" and do as his father wants.

Yeah, the musical connection might put her in contact with Ripp, or one of his ilk. There's a very good chance of that.

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2008-01-28 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Love the backstory... love the failed attempts for a son (giggle) and all that family angst I can see coming! Won't Daddy be upset to find his prized baby boy hiding in that closet, hmmm?

So many sub-stories you're weaving with this tale! I love it!
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-28 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Daddy would not be pleased. It might be a rough ride for Frances.

I love having so many stories running at the same time. It's fun to weave in and out of them, and to link them to each other. And maybe, just maybe, I will stack them all up like dominoes at one point or another all watch them all fall into each other. It would be beautiful to watch.

[identity profile] 80sfiend.livejournal.com 2008-01-28 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
You did a great job on them!! :D His parents are adorable! I love the sad eyes he got from his mom. ;) The daughters are great and have such distinctive personalities! :D I definitely like Edie the best too. :D
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-28 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. Technically, though, Frances has his father's eyes. I just removed the excessive lashes from his father. I adjusted his mothers eyes to make them bigger and more wide-set, which is a trait that I tend to like. I suppose you could be referring to the colour too, though. That's what makes them sad, in many ways.

I'm glad you liked the girls. Edie definitely has a little something extra for me (yeah - a femullet). I think she will be a good support for Frances.

I'm with you and Frances. Edie was my favorite pic, right off the bat. I just instantlly liked her.

Their pictures just spoke volumes about their personalites.

Great job with the family and I hope that we get to meet them real soon.

ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-02-08 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
How could anyone not like her with that awesome hairstyle? *grin* She just seems nice, though, doesn't she? And like she has a mind of her own.

Thanks. I tried to wait for an expression that tied into the personality somewhat.

I'm really excited to start working them into the story. :D

[identity profile] missgan.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm really excited about seeing how the Worthingtons interact with each other, and what Frances II's reaction towards Frances III's sexuality will be! (Providing that he does find out, of course.)

Like everyone else, my favourite of the sisters is Edie. Who doesn't like a Knowledge sim with great clothes, attitude and cool artistic interests? :D

I think Lilian's really interesting too, if only because she's the one designated to resent Frances III for being the heir. I'm hoping to see sparks fly!

Charlotte sounds and looks like a Stepford wife! XD

Hmm

If you peek at Frances' family tree, there's no such person as the original Frances J. Worthington or original male line. They start as II.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
None of the university students actually have family trees. That's why I created the Worthingtons for my own use in this story.
