LOL about you saying we sound different in your head, you sound different in my head! It was a bit odd hearing your voice, I have to admit.

And I ALWAYS say newFOUNDLAND. xDDD Now I know how to say it properly.

It's interesting to have a real voice to connect to a person. Your voice was pretty close to what I imagined for the sound of it (pitch, tone... whatever), but not the pronunciation. (I need to go back through those and comment... my parents have dial-up, so it was rough).

ARGH! Don't say FOUND, say "fnd", like you're barely bothering to say the middle part at all. Even "fin" is better than "found". The key is emphasis on the "land" at the end. (Sorry. I get all patriotic and worked up. :P)

I win! :D No, I think that's pretty cool that you say it that way, really. When I wrote that part, I was imagining all the different possibilities for accents, so it's nice to hear some variation there.

I was like "oooh, I messed it up." That was where my accent shines through, I think. I tried to correct it, but I was going to say Wurdington (or worse). :P I'm surprised my Smiths came out so well. I figured they'd sound like Smit, not Smith. That's how I'd say it at home, but I tend to use my more "proper" voice when I'm talking in a more formal setting.

Frances has a hard name, okay? It's a mouthful.

Really? People always say they imagine me to have a lighter voice (it's the gay thing, I supposedly have a deep voice compared to my fellow queers, IDK)

I looked up how to say it, so when I say it properly I say newFINlnd. It's still not right, but it's hard to read all those symbols ~~at Wikipedia~~ in the dictionary. :P

That would sound close. A good thing to keep in mind is to say the first part like you're saying Newfin' as if Newf were a verb and you're going Newfing. *snort* Newfin'-LAND. That would sound about right. (Learning this is important, remember. :P)

Yeah, it's a good one for that. That's why I'd like to read something longer. It would give more opportunity to notice details. Maybe I'll do it later.

Very, very close. I realized I used a lot of Ripp in it. My favorite is the one picture of him I used for "naughty."

I think I say a lot of things "wrong", from hearing all these voice posts. I pronounce "Chloe" and Loste" pretty much the same way.

I used to have Circe wrong, but I looked it up at some point. I used to think of it as having a hard C, like Kirk. I'm pretty awesome at not being able to figure out how to pronounce things until I've heard them spoken, or I've looked them up.

I like how you said Loste. It's more elegant than something that sounds exactly like lost (though I like how silly it is when it's just that).

I pronounce Roque the same way as well, even though I know it's supposed to be like rock. I also pronounce the Jaquet family like Jock-ay. I guess I like to make the names that are supposed to sound like actual words sound like last names instead.

I used to read/spell Roque as Rogue, so I've been "saying" his name that way for ages. I think it sounds cooler than rock, but it's WRONG.

That's the pronunciation I would have used, unfortunately - been living in the UK too long, I guess. They do such terrible things to place names! :) Now I know better.

I say Nig-MOS. Some people say Nigmoss (like Moss on rocks). I do say the s in her last name...

Someone said "Nig-mo" and it sorta made sense. (BTW the sim in your icon is adorable!)

I also say it as Nig-MOS. I can see how MO could be right too, but I like the way it sounds with the S at the end better.

I was too self-conscious to do anything like that, though I slipped that little aside in about how the Grunts were "so hard" too pronounce.

That's because I'm 27. ;) Don't get ahead of me here. I don't look my age either. I guess I'm just lucky that way (it'll pay off when I'm older).

I'm not sure I'm representing my accent very well here. I tend to average it out for people. I need to record myself talking to my Nan, I think. I've never had a really strong accent, but it comes and goes. I still think it would come across better if I was reading something longer.

He has a very grand name. It's a lot to live up to, that name.

I think he lives up to his name, but I think it's interesting that the Goths who are a rich family don't have a similar, rich kind of name. (Offtopic: I have a real life friend whose surname is Worthington, and now I can't talk to her without giggling to myself. I sound insane.)

I am still hoping you'll read one of your drabbles! I think that voices aren't particularly well represented by reading lists, especially as I ended up going into List Reading Mode, which is totally different to Normal Voice Mode.

The only thing you pronounced different from what I would was, funnily enough, 'pronunciation'. I do saw 'Nufundland', because I worked with a Newfoundlander for a few years at Tim Horton's. (And I watched a lot of Shaun Majumder or however you spell his name ;) )
Well, I do say 'klo' instead of 'kloee', as well, but I think that's something else altogether :S

I love your little mess up on Frances and how you got all uppity about the pronunciation of Newfoundland. I'm from Lebanon, PA and it's pronounced Leb-nin NOT Leb-a-non. Also Lancaster is Lang-cuh-ster not Lang-cast-or.

I know this is months old but I only started reading this blog the other week and I really thought I had to say this. I live in the UK and I am from the original Lancaster (the PROPER one!) It has existed for centuries and is pronounced Lann-Kass-Tuh

I've lived in BC for 16 years, Quebec before that. For some reason, I'm told that I 'talk like a Newfie'. I have no idea what that's supposed to mean, but I now understand that I most certainly do not talk like a Newfie... but I kinda wish I did. Your accent, it's very endearing. ProNOUNciation. RAMbling. Nervous _sub-ject. The stereotype is much more severe than your accent embodies, I'm sure you're aware.

I always read Circe as Seerk. I think your pronunciation is correct according to rules of ce-words, but it struck me as quite odd to hear someone say it that way.

I've always pronounced Newfoundland as NEWfoundland, and I sort of run the word together... NEWfundlund.

For the most part, aside from a few "twangs" here and there (for lack of a better term) you sound like you could be from around here. Which was kind of neat!

The way you say 'Circe' is adorable. I don't pronounce the 'e', but now I've said it again it sounds sorta bizarre without the 'e' sound on the end. And 'Beau'! Mine sorta sounds like 'bow'.

Thanks. Her hair isn't as significant a change as Jills or Frances or Ripp's hair was, but I think she will change it at a moment where it does sort of represent something. I tend to be really drawn to using hair as a symbol for change that way.

You have exactly the voice I imagined you'd have! :D I like your accent, although I don't really see a big difference between yours and the American (probably because I usually listen to American and British accent). That was fun, and I listened to the recording three times because I didn't notice an accent!! I have a few folks here in Arizona from Canada, and didnt notice any accent either! LOL
