Strangetown extras: Ophelia rocks!

Okay, so I just wanted to brag about Ophelia's achievement in obtaining her gold talent badge for flower arranging, and show a cute photo or two. This is actually the first sim of mine to reach this level of flower arranging (I haven't had OFB all that long), so I'm excited to see the snapdragon bouquets in action.

Go Ophelia! That's the big payoff above her head. Shouldn't she get more aspiration points than that? Come on! I guess she probably would if she was a fortune or knowledge sim... but she did have the want (which I locked). Oh well. Ophelia rolled the want to buy a flower arranging table back when she was a teen, quite randomly, and it worked nicely into the story. She's moved on to gardening now.

Check out Johnny and Ripp over there "helping" her while she's working. As I mentioned before, her room is the biggest and becomes the place they end up hanging out in all of the time, since the stereo is in there too. The dancing happens autonomously. Johnny, in particular, always heads up there to turn it on and then dance or just hang out on the bed. Lots of autonomous relaxing going on around here.

Aren't they cute? They're all really good dancers (by sim standards). If I recall, they all received that college scholarship for dancing. Sometimes they just break into little dance offs like this for fun. Oh, I just love them.

*techno music blasting*

Oo-Oo! Oo-Oo!! Dance party over here! Shake your groove thang!!

There's a dancing scholarship? How do you get that?
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
They actually dance to the College Rock and New Wave stations, since those are my favourites. *grin*

The dancing scholarship is awarded when they reach a certain level of skill. Dancing is a hidden skill, so you just have to keep at it (I think I read somewhere that they only gain skill if they dance with another sim). The ability to "bust a move" is a sign that they're getting close. Ripp even autonomously busts a move on people every now and then, which cracks me up completely! Man, he's a show off!

[identity profile] music-simbol.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I put my own music in the game. The game automatically turns on the Salsa station, so I just throw in my latest mp3s and dance a bit while I play.

I need to get more teen dancing, course I don't play teens much in the first place. (I'd so get that scholarship if I was a sim!)

Ripp just wins at life, doesn't he?
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been meaning to put my own music in the game for ages, but I've never gotten around to trying it. Does it show up on the salsa channel by default?

Oh, you can dance, can you? Going to bust a move on me? *grin* I like to think I can dance, but I probably dance like a sim. I have fun, anyway, and that's what matters, right?

Ripp wins at life, yet manages to lose at life in equal measure. He's nothing if not extreme.

[identity profile] music-simbol.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Each genre has it's own folder, but since the game automatically puts on salsa, I just threw everything in there, rather than separating it. You can also put you own music in for the loading screens and CAS, which can be very amusing, believe me.

And yes, I can dance. I'm Hispanic, it's in my BLOOD!!!!!

[identity profile] aledstrange.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
rofl! that made laugh so hard, I'm Hispanic too, but I can't dance! :P

I select a few mp3 in various styles and place where they match the best, that way I can kept different types of music in different households. :)

Johnny likes dancing with Ripp! lol I remember one of the few times I ran his birthday party, he spent more time dancing with Ripp than paying attention to Ophelia. He actually wished for it!! (and that was on a bran new game, meaning I didn't altered anything or played with any of them before)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Johnny and Ripp do seem drawn to each other whenever they are together. It's easy to see why they are friends. I've seen them roll that want too, if in the middle of a party or on an outing.

[identity profile] cameoflage.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I can top that: I learned some of my dance moves from TS1 (like many things from my preteen years, I blame this on being young and stupid... well, that and figuring that it couldn't be any worse than the way I naturally dance).

Also: I heavily favour the New Wave station. I put some of my own music into TS1 - as well as putting some of the Sim music in with the rest of mine - but nowadays I find that not using real-world music helps with the sense of immersion, and if I still crave human music then I just mute the Sim music and put iTunes on (I run it in windowed mode; this is partly for convenience and partly because it crashes when run in fullscreen.).

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
The snapdragon bouquet is made of awesome. But watch your sims aspiration or they can make one that will backfire (well, maybe that would be good storywise. . .).

I use the snapdragon bouquets in my Apocalypse Challenge house. It makes it almost too easy.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, what does a corrupted snapdragon bouquet do? That could be good for something...

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
It drains needs. But I don't think it can kill.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Does it look scary? And the normal ones shoot out a pink mist, right? Do the scary ones do something more sinister?

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
I think they emit a green cloud. I've never had one in game, so I'm not exactly sure.

[identity profile] zepheera.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
They do emit a green mist, and if you aren't careful they can drain the needs enough that the sims near them will starve to death if they aren't smart enough to go feed themselves. Not to dangerous though.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds like something the Beakers would have decorated Nervous Subject's room with.

"If they aren't smart enough to feed themselves."

Sadly, they often aren't. They'd rather whine about it.

[identity profile] zepheera.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Poor Nervous, he just can't get a break

I think I get maybe one sim in ten that will actually get up and go get some food when they are hungry...

[identity profile] sinderellah.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Last night two of mine decided painting was much more important than eating. This was after a party ended, and they both had full fun meters. *sheesh!*
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Now I have to make one, just to see.

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been plotting to use one of these for a while, but have never made one. . .maybe I should, huh?
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, why not. It's there, so take advantage of it.

Though this reasoning hasn't helped me find uses for vampires and plant sims, etc. in this story... maybe at some point I'll see a use for it. It seems more than enough to me dealing with one strange creature. I'm not sure how it would be possible to work them all in.

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I found a place for Vampires and Plant-Sims in Nocheat. Since Nocheat and Peculiar are slowly melding (at least on some level), they might show up in Peculiar, too (but only as a side note).

(in Nocheat, Vampirism is viewed as a kind of VD. It's treated with vampircillin but has never been CURED. I had a whole plot about Carmella DeTreville wanting to permanently cure her philandering fiance--and father of her twins--of VD. It failed and she killed him--along with two of her sisters, before she died an early death herself. I haven't shown the plant sim thing yet, but it's an odd side effect of too much Bubble, harmless but disconcerting)

[identity profile] palegypsy.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I think the "pointing finger" icon over her head indicates that those are the influence points she received for the achievement; the aspiration points were probably quite a bit higher. So cheer up! :-)

I adore your Strangetown stories!
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, you're totally right about that! Thanks for pointing that out. I was probably just watching Ripp and Johnny too closely, and missed it.

Thank you! :)

[identity profile] redqueenofevil.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
I've never had a sim reach the gold talent badge with flower arranging, and I think I've had OFB for a year. Now, after reading the comments, I'll have to try getting a sim up to gold, just to try making the snapdragon bouquet.

Yay, for information! Congrats, Phi!

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I have La Fiesta Tech set to permanent Autumn, so that probably helped. They get a boost in skill building during that season. Strangetown is perma-Summer, so relationship building is improved.

This is the first talent badge that I've maxed out. I need to get around to creating a servo at some point too, though I have no idea how that might work in the story yet (some vague ideas, but I'm not sure).

I don't even remember what you can make with a gold toy making badge... can anyone fill me in?

[identity profile] sinderellah.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
The gold toy making badge will garner you the Water Wiggler, a sprinkler for the lawn. Sims can play and jump around in the sprinkler. The evil version will just make puddles, I think.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, how cool! That would keep them cool under the hot sun, wouldn't it?

[identity profile] redqueenofevil.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's the water wiggler, for gold toy.

I've thought of setting uni settings to perma fall. Except that it always seems like most people goof off in real unis during the spring. So maybe a fall/spring setting would work... *goes to experiment*

[identity profile] pixelcurious.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Woot! That's an achievement, a gold badge. But beware the snapdragon (my son! the jaws that bite, the claws that... stun!) I had a sim make a bunch of them and stuck them around the house, then my sims hardly slept and it almost took the fun out of playing. I ended up sticking them in inventory except for when I needed them. ^_^

Ripp and Johnny dancing are very cute. I notice Johnny is extra stylish in his green tracksuit.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it seems to be something to use in moderation, though when shooting photos for complicated scenes this story, I often find myself using maxmotives anyway to avoid having to set things up again, so the snapdragons might be a nice alternative. Hmmm... can you place them on community lots? They should be useful for preggos and babies too.

I'm mostly interested in how they might be useful in the story. I have something in mind that might be good.

They sure are cute! I knew that you, of all people, would appreciate them dancing together. :) Johnny's tracksuit is pretty coordinated with his skin and hair, isn't it? He probably doesn't let on, but I'd say he puts a bit of effort into his look. Those bangs don't style themselves! *snicker* Or does he just sleep on it?

[identity profile] pixelcurious.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Watch that the pink mist doesn't get in screenshots. It only appears for a few seconds, at least.

I haven't tried to place one on a community lot. As long as you can access a sim's inventory, it should work. Or you can convert a community lot to residential briefly, place it, and then change it back.

Man, in the 80s I'd have killed for bangs like that. He must really go through the BedHead (tm)!
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, unless I actually want to see the pink mist in the shot, and then I'll be killing myself to time it right.

Yeah, Johnny has bangs to die for. Notice how the boys are way more vain about their hair than Ophelia is. She just has it tucked away in that topknot.

[identity profile] franwi.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
WTG Phi! Those pics are so cute, thanks to Johnny and Ripp "helping out" lol. There's a scholarship for DANCING? I rarely let my sims dance, especially when there are toilets to scrub and showers to clean! *is a slavedriver*
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I always hire maids and other service people, so my sims will have time to dance and have fun. Especially Ripp, because he whines something fierce if you direct him to clean something. He HATES it, and it takes him a whole hour to clean something. What's the use?

[identity profile] 80sfiend.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Aww that's cute. :D
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it, though? Sometimes I get sidetracked while working on photos for the story and just watch the cuteness for a while.

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Ripp is definitely one of my all time favorite sims, along with Johnny. Never have played Ophelia much; but I must admit your story makes her a bit more interesting to me!

My all time favorite OFB object is the evil kite. (devil) I'm just sayin'!

[identity profile] redqueenofevil.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Evil kite is so much fun!
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-01-17 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ripp + Johnny + Ophelia = love. For me, they are way up there. Right next to poor little Nervous Subject.

So what's the deal with this evil kite? Is it created when you craft with a low aspiration? How many of the different craftables can be made into evil versions? I feel so green about OFB.

[identity profile] missgan.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that Johnny's blond hair and green skin totally coordinate with his tracksuit! XD

I've not experimented much with talent badges & OFB, but I once had a sim who made a water wiggler for his young children to play with in summer. Extremely cute, and very fun! :D
It would provide excellent photo-taking opportunities, I think!
