Mansion and Garden Stuff

I'm not really here *waves hands around to confuse you* but I wanted to point out that there are some screencaps and item shots for Mansion and Garden Stuff on the Sims 2 website, if you haven't already seen it. There's a really cool looking ornamental grass there. I'm pretty pumped about the garden stuff.

I see some (pretty crappy looking) new hairstyles in those screenshots too, but they're probably new Sims 2 Store content (thus explaining the crappiness). I'm still annoyed that they made that side swept, angled, big-head male hair into the official male witches hair. It makes me even less interested in the witches than I already was, since that hair actually makes me angry when I look at it. But now I'm just ranting...

Oh, wait... I have one more hat-related gripe. The only hat I actually like, the cheese-cutter that came with AL, needs a version with short hair. I love those hats (a female version would be nice too, since I've been known to wear one on occasion), but it annoys me that the only option is that sort of lame longer male hair. I like that hair well enough, but it really doesn't work for everyone, and a short option would have been so much better.

I downloaded Milkshape with the intention of trying to piece together the two meshes myself, but my brain sort of shut down after a minute or two. I'll probably give it another try, though.

Okay, I'm gone for real this time... :P (Why am I such a dirty liar?)

Liar liar, pants on fire! :P

There's a message there to check back to see more stuff, so I guess they're just behind on posting it. I know there are other things not shown, like the lupins (also very cool).

There's a really ratty looking long male hair there, and (from what I can see) it looks like I could have made the mesh myself.

Oh, I didn't see that. I tend to just look at pictures and not read things sometimes, so you're probably right.

You know what it seems like? EaXis is looking at downloads to try to figure out what Sims fans like and failing miserably at it. Since ratty longer hairs seem to be popular, why not try and make them? I also notice that their hair textures have become different too. They look a bit thicker than the base game hairs do- and it just makes them look like a helmet on some of them. Some maxis-match hair downloads look better than that crap.

I totally agree. They really are just copying cc hair, and the texture shave become a little shinier to match cc hair too. Some of it is good, some is great, and some is... ehhh. I just wish they'd get the size of the head right. That male hair is as bad as those ten-head female hairs (of which there are several).

I think you're right. The Maxis-matchers are better than Maxis now. There's some really great stuff on Garden of Shadows. Neena Needles and miki come to mind right away (thank you to [livejournal.com profile] dothesmustle for turning me on to them.

Note: texture shave = textures have

(And I totally meant to drop that parentheses.

I'd edit but.... ehhh.

...Except when it comes from dustfinger on MTS2. >_<
I really want to say in a comment to them that they should stop uploading obsessively because they're giving other maxis matchers a bad name.

Phobia from GOS has some great Maxis-match stuff too. I'm really liking a lot of things on there lately- and *gasp!* I've even uploaded two sims.

I know... and I feel really bad for dustfinger, since I've seen a number of people saying they don't like it, and it's not all that bad. I think I did download one or two things, actually, but most of it isn't working for me, especially the Peggy meshes. Thanks to some other Maxis-matchers, I now have a pretty decent collection of Peggy meshes, to be honest, but it's only a special Peggy mesh that wins me over. I ignore most of them.

I really like Phobia's stuff (especially her pictures), but I'm not sure it always matches the Maxis stuff. I do like those sarhra eyes, but the shaded sclera ruins it for me. (I still enjoy them more than other realistic eyes, but they just look wrong in my game.) I'm not sold on those nose shaders either, though I'm strangely compelled at the same time (those aren't done by Phobia, though, she just uses them... I think).

I've really been lurking GOS a lot lately, but I dare not participate any more than that. I'm about as "alternative" as your Mom (well, unless she actually is). The category "Doll Parts" actual makes me cringe a little, thinking back to my grungey Courtney Love lovin' days. It seems so 90's to me now. (Not that I don't still have a soft spot for the music...)

I guess I'm just another simmer who is wary of the GOS clique. How predictable. :P

No, not everything is bad. A lot of the hair textures they do just don't look right though. The lines are a bit too thick and sometimes don't go in the right direction. Besides, the colors that are used for the red hair remind me too much of the base game long hair that Juliette Capp has- I really can't stand the color on that one, it's too bright and just doesn't match the others.

I tried out the eyes that she has and didn't like the eye shading either. They're just not my style, oh well. Basically I was so tempted because of all the color choices. It actually had a default grey that looked like my eyes!

I haven't really participated much either. I introduced myself, posted those sims (just as an experiment to see if anybody would look at them), made a request for a hair retexture (nobody really looked at it), and made a comment in the simsecrets thread. I'm actually pretty "alternative"... It just doesn't come out in here and in public, hehe. I was one of those gothic freaks in high school but I've decided to just dress in my old clothes for halloween now. I'm still very into those styles of music though.

Hehe, "Doll Parts" always comes into my head whenever I see the name of that thread. I definitely have a soft spot for that type of music as well- even though a lot of that decade is such a blur since I was so young.
