Strangetown Extras: The Brokes

Yes, this Strangetown extra takes place in Pleasantview. That makes sense, right? Well, in the sense that it's part of this Stranegtown story... yes, it does. I've been working up the other neighbourhoods to catch up with Strangetown, since this will be relevant to the story (and it's helping me with some of the details). I'm working on a drabble about Frances, which ended up being about Beau too, which then became more of a drabble+ with pics, so I've been playing with the Brokes a little to get some shots.

Something exciting happened: Brandi had twins! The family sim aspiration benefit really does work (but not every time - I played her earlier and had only one child, but didn't end up saving it) . I named the identical boys Gilbert and George. You get the reference, right? I hope so. Anyway, here are a couple of pics. You'll see more in the drabble. I'm having a lot of fun decorating the trailer.

Awww... aren't they adorable?

And there's Beau warming his ass on the radiator, which is (oddly?) one of my favourite new objects in AL. It just adds a nice touch of realism for me. I'd love a really cheap little portable space heater too, but this works for a number of settings.

Here's Beau autonomously playing with his little brother. Again... AWWW.

(Isn't it annoying how some of the SP and EA Store hairs aren't enabled for pajamas, etc? In theory, I like that Seasons feature of different hair with different outfits, but it's more trouble than it's worth most of the time.)

Now... back to get the shots I need for the drabble. I'm making progress on the next chapter too.

Awesome. They are just too cute! :) Where us their hair from? Is it in the game or it's the new stuff from Sims 2 Store? I still don't have it. Have to take a look at MATY if it's up already. *crosses fingers*

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's from the Sims 2 Store. It's the "zombie" hair, which is messy and just perfect for little children.

[identity profile] draganin.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Some of them make sense not being PJ hair (hats for example)... but some of them are nothing more than slack coding in my opinion.

That first huggle looks like one of them is about to panic. XD
It has to be my favourite interaction from that EP... with the spring riders a close second. I hadn't tried the radiator yet; now I have to!

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It would make sense for the hats, and having the hair in a hat for outwear and things like that, but most of the time I don't even bother. That pile of toques that came with Seasons is lost on me, and I'm a Canadian. If I don't care about toques, is anyone else going to? :P

Also, that Sims 2 Store can't even be selected as pajama hair if you want to, and it looks like it should be bedhead hair. That's just lazy coding.

The Huggle is great, but I really love the "swing around" thing that you can do with kids. That's going to be in my drabble later.

Radiators behave like fireplaces, in that they give you warmth, and they also make clanking sounds like a real radiator. Very cool.

[identity profile] leskuh.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
so cute! i like that with brandi you're guaranteed to get identical twins. i wish that could happen more often.

also when i was little i ran into a radiator and had this big welt on my stomach for a long time. so they always make me a little nervous. there's one in my dorm right now, because the building is just so old.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure if you can ever get identical twins otherwise. Well, you can, but it's very rare. You have a better chance of getting clones with children that are not born together, since every subsequent twin (or triplet, etc.) is a separate roll of the dice for genetics, but you can run into that clone child thing with single siblings.

Now Pleasantview has two sets of identical twins. It must be something in the drinking water...

Oooh, that sounds awful. I'm sorry to hear that. They can be dangerous, no doubt, but they aren't always that hot. At least, I've had radiators that barely gave off heat at all. Crappy old things.

Those little kids better be careful.

[identity profile] leskuh.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, i thought it might be possible to get identical twins because of the clone thing. I know it can sometimes happen to the single kids so I figured it could happen with twins too, but I guess I'm wrong. LAAAAME. The clone thing for singles is freaky and reminds me of my one friend who has like a thousand sisters and they all look SO ALIKE. It's creepy to be in that house for too long.

So... Strangetown has aliens, Veronaville has faeries and Pleasantview has... identical twins? Lol, Pleasantview is so lame.

I don't really remember it, but I've heard the story. Mom was SO upset. But I don't have the mark anymore and don't recall it happening so it's not that big a deal. They make me nervous, but I really like how they look.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Pleasantview just can't compete in the supernatural creatures arena. They have... bleach blondes with fake tans and boob jobs? :P

I have a similar childhood story, and I can't remember it either. I crashed into the corner of my grandparent's wood stove, and I cut my lip (well, it's better than burning my face, right?). I still have the scar on my lip. It's pretty noticeable, but only when you're close to it, and I can cover it with lipstick if I want to.

[identity profile] abbycat900.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
-raises hand- I've gotten identical twins! I am PRETTY darn sure they weren't clones, because in my game, I do not think I have ever gotten clones that didn't have the exact same personality, and these twins did not.

*dies from the cute*

Fucking hell, now I have to get AL. *sigh*

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I does have a lot of cool things in it. The playground stuff is awesome too.

[identity profile] music-simbol.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been trying to resist the temptation (especially since I can get it for free), in order to not install more stuff on my computer. But, the huggle action.......I think I'm going to die if I don't get that in game. :P Plus, ceilings!!!

Stop me! For my computer's sake, someone stop me!!!!!!!
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, having all these EPs and SPs is a LOT for a computer to take. Mine seems like it might be struggling too (or it's just dying in general).

I can't stop you. The ceilings are worth it. ;)

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL MONDAY WHEN I HAVE THE GAME!!!!!

I was toying with making the last baby twins, but this cemented it. *eyes burn from cute*

Did you buy the Sims 2 Store hairs? Because in the ones I downloaded I did NOT get the Zombie Hair. (this is just my oh so clever way of asking you for a link. :P )

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
W00T!

Yeah, twins are sweet. I wish you could get indentical tiwns more often.

I got those from the MATY thread. It's just a matter of starting at the end and going page by page to find all the files. It's a little work to dig them all out.

But it's seems they now have a collection post, for our convenience:

As my Nan would say... bless their little hearts. :D

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, twins.

That benefit really does work. I was surprised with some twins just the other day thanks to it.

That radiator is cool. Looks like AL's going to be one of those "like it for the random stuff" EPs (like Pets, with its great objects but the whole pet thing gets old).
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
I really like that the twin benefit takes effect at birth instead of conception, unlike normal twins. It makes it more surprising. It's the way cheesecake is supposed to work too (and I think I have a hack that makes it work the way it should, giving something like a 30% chance).

I agree. Al has a lot of great objects, but I also really love the way the apartments work. I've been wanting something like that for a long time.

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
Huh, I didn't know the twin benefit worked differently. So does that mean if you peeked at the pregnancy (via inSim) it wouldn't show (I didn't peak on my latest twins). I've heard about that fix for the cheesecake thing. In never grabbed it. Sadly, a lot of my sims are skilled enough to even make cheesecake, so it's a not issue.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it wouldn't show. The baby could officially be a single child, and then become twins at birth. When I played Brandi, it was a single child a couple of times, and then that one time it surprised me with twins. It's pretty cool.

I have to be careful off all the family sims now, since I max out the benefits as a rule. Twins might become something of an epidemic.

I like the cheesecake benefit, since it's a drag to know that it's twins for sure. I love the surprise.

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
*I have to be careful off all the family sims now, since I max out the benefits as a rule. Twins might become something of an epidemic.*

Agreed. Since you can't see it in inSim, I'm going to have to watch a few folks (or not max them) myself *gives Blossom and Pierre a sideways glance*.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I've consider not maxing some of them, but where's the fun in that? *snicker* We'll just have to assume that twins are a more common ocurrance on Sim Earth.

Are Pierre and Blossom both family sims? Their benefits might be cumulative,, but there's also a chance they won't be.

[identity profile] meetme2theriver.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, cute. :D

That sucks that the zombie hair isn't binned for sleepwear... I hope someone fixes that. I would, if I knew how... hmm... maybe...

The radiator is cool. :)
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know why they don't just make all hair enabled for all clothing categories. It's out own concern if we want a sim to wear a hat to bed. :P They shouldn't limit the options.

[identity profile] xel-squirgle-ox.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, it's Samson and Glenn! But uh, in this case it's Gilbert and George. :D

Do they have identical personalities, or are they like my two with totally different ones? Now I really want to get them introduced into my story. But I don't know how to get to that point! Grr.
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That's right... I forgot you got twins from Brandi too. It's so cool that people can get that now.

I didn't check their personalities, but I'll do that. Is one of them still exactly like Brandi, or are they both different? I'll have to look into it.

I hear ya. I have things planned out so far into the future for parts of the story. It's a bit ridiculous.

[identity profile] simgarooop.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)

Awww, how cute! The toddler hug is adorable, but so is little Beau warming his butt near the radiator (I thought that was a decorative object, BTW!). He was always playing and teaching his little bro on his own in my game, hence why I chose the family aspiration for him in my Legacy.

I guess Brandi Broke is the only person who can give birth to "natural" identical twins. I wish that was more common in the game, though.

Gotta love MATY and their fixed hair files. I wish that zombie hair didn't "disappear" with the PJ's (and I also wish a few of the female store styles were available for teens and younger too).

There are so many cute and random interactions in this EP. Have you tried the mirror cabinet? I read that sims can wash their teeth with it! (Gotta try that right now!)

[identity profile] franwi.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I just can't get over the cute. And that hug makes me giggle.

[identity profile] cameoflage.livejournal.com 2008-09-14 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Radiators are cool, but playing more Half-Life 2 than is healthy has led me to associate them with using the Gravity Gun to yank them off the wall and shoot them at zombies, so that might spoil my appreciation a bit :P

[identity profile] 80sfiend.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Aww Brandi had twin boys in my game too! Weird. :) Also, they're cute!!!

[identity profile] sophie10.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
How come Brandi can have identical twins? Am I missing something and is there a way of cheating it?
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Her first pregnancy always results in a male clone of Brandi, which is something that happens when the data for the other parent is missing, as it is with her. The pregnancy is a single baby, but if you use cheesecake or the forcetwins cheat (and now the family aspiration benefit), you can have twins with this pregnancy, and both of them will be male clones of Brandi.

[identity profile] sophie10.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
So you could also do that by making a sim pregnant by themselves and forcetwins?
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that would have the same effect. The one drawback to the whole thing is the way the twins will also be identical to the parent, but since they'll always be the other gender, it's not quite as noticeable as it would be if they were all the same.

[identity profile] sophie10.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Are Lillith and Angela Pleasant Daniel's clones?
ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I think they were just created in CAS. Like many Maxis families, they aren't genetically linked to their parents in appearance. Lilith and Angela's noses, in particular, does not resemble either Mary-Sue or Daniel's nose.

[identity profile] sophie10.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's true. Will we be seeing much of the twins in your strory?

[identity profile] amaryssobellus.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
OMG! I had no idea that the toddlers could hug like that!!! SO CUTE!
