Hard drive failure is imminent...

Yeah, that's right - imminent. That's exactly what my computer said.

Sweating? Who's sweating?

I'm not sweating, I'm BACKING UP my game. What else would I do at a time like this? Oh good. It's all copied over to the external hard drive... cc and all. I can breath again now.

I called tech. support, and they're sending me everthing I need to package up the hard drive to send it off to be replaced, which is awesome. In the meantime, I was told to back up anything I don't want to lose. I wonder if he could hear my blood turning to ice when he gave me that line.

At least Ripp finds it funny... this icon is going to serve me well during hard times.

Eek. HD failure is bad. Backups are good. Glad you got everything moved over on the external. Everything will be fine. Don't Panic. :)

0.0 Wow, that's insane. At least your computer warned you?

That's a terrifying message to get from your computer.

Best of luck backing up and replacing your hard drive!

Phew, hooray for the external hard drive. This reminds me to back up to mine soon.

At least your computer was nice enough to warn you about its imminent failure and you were able to back up your files. As long as you have everything safe in your HD, you shouldn't worry about it.

My computer, on the other hand, decided to go with a good old "F**k you!" out of nowhere.

*Eyes the desktop* Yeah, you are still grounded until I find my Office CD. (Not like I'm actually looking for it :P)

[identity profile] dothesmustle.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
*phew* I think I felt my heart sink when I thought you lost your game! Good luck.

I love that new icon, Ripp and his new hair are love. :D

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, I feel your pain. This last round with my computer, I really did almost have a heart attack.

I got a "dumping physical memory" message and I just STARED at the screen. And STARED. And STARED. I couldn't even do my fingers crossed chant thing.

The timing's kind of nice, though. You're getting ready for a break and, it seems, so is your computer.

(and how freaky, it's like everyone's computer is on the same "cycle")

[identity profile] music-simbol.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm with everyone else, at least it gave you a warning. Your comp is a lot nicer than mine, who likes to just shut down randomly and give me heart attacks.

Oh Ripp, your smile could melt even the coldest heart. :P

[identity profile] pixelcurious.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, that's terrifying. :( I'm sorry your computer is dying, but so glad you had a chance to back up beforehand.

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Well thank the Computer Gods you had a warning before it all went kaput. My hard drive just died on me once, not too long ago. I mean, it just DIED. Like froze in the middle of navigating to another page on the internet and I did a shutdown and restart and it wouldn't come back up. AT ALL. So everything was just gone, that quick!

Yikes.

You know, it seems like a lot of us Simmers have major computer issues. I would never ask my hubby this, because he'd be all "I told you so" but does anyone think having the sims game on the computer is what does it?

[identity profile] simsbarbie.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
we were just talking about external hard-drives the other day huh? life freakin' savors.

[identity profile] simsbarbie.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
or savers...sp

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, I can't believe that! Good thing you made the back up... :O

[identity profile] minotaurus.livejournal.com 2008-07-23 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I had to do that too a few days ago, except move it to a new computer because my other one is pretty much dead. I hope it all works out! <3

[identity profile] dragancaor.livejournal.com 2008-07-23 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I have to run backups all the time on my photos, one shoot tends to take 17gb, so I made a habit of making sims backups while I was at it. Thank the gods I do, my epic motherboard failure of last year was painful. Literally. I'd be playing BF2 & lining up a shot when BAM!; the whole pc would freeze & there'd be this ungodly high pitched scream coming through my headset. This was always followed by a sudden fit of jumping back from the screen, shrieking & ripping headset off with total disregard for hair remaining in scalp.

[sigh] you're so lucky yours warned you. But they come in threes don't they... so my friends list just hit two..... [hides]

[identity profile] 80sfiend.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yikes! I hope you got it sorted out?? O.O
