Hard drive failure is imminent...
Yeah, that's right - imminent. That's exactly what my computer said.
Sweating? Who's sweating?
I'm not sweating, I'm BACKING UP my game. What else would I do at a time like this? Oh good. It's all copied over to the external hard drive... cc and all. I can breath again now.
I called tech. support, and they're sending me everthing I need to package up the hard drive to send it off to be replaced, which is awesome. In the meantime, I was told to back up anything I don't want to lose. I wonder if he could hear my blood turning to ice when he gave me that line.
At least Ripp finds it funny... this icon is going to serve me well during hard times.

Best of luck backing up and replacing your hard drive!

At least your computer was nice enough to warn you about its imminent failure and you were able to back up your files. As long as you have everything safe in your HD, you shouldn't worry about it.
My computer, on the other hand, decided to go with a good old "F**k you!" out of nowhere.
*Eyes the desktop* Yeah, you are still grounded until I find my Office CD. (Not like I'm actually looking for it :P)

That's downright POLITE.

I love that new icon, Ripp and his new hair are love. :D

I got a "dumping physical memory" message and I just STARED at the screen. And STARED. And STARED. I couldn't even do my fingers crossed chant thing.
The timing's kind of nice, though. You're getting ready for a break and, it seems, so is your computer.
(and how freaky, it's like everyone's computer is on the same "cycle")

Oh Ripp, your smile could melt even the coldest heart. :P

I know what will be on the top of the list.
"Better working conditions, including SHORTER hours and a cat hair free working environment."
AIN'T happening.

Yikes.
You know, it seems like a lot of us Simmers have major computer issues. I would never ask my hubby this, because he'd be all "I told you so" but
does anyone think having the sims game on the computer is what does it?no subject

At first it froze at one of the start-up screens, so I called tech. support right away, as is my nature - I don't trust myself to figure it out on my own, nor do I have the patience to mess around with computer issues for long.
Then, while they were redirecting my call, I got one of those detailed screens with all the computer specs on it, and at the bottom is a gentle notice that FAILURE IS IMMINENT! *cue foreboding music*
I agree. It's scary, but at least I have some time to prepare. The computer might hold on for a while, really, but I have no idea when it might die.

I'm calm now. I have a number of backups (I keep the last 5 or 6 different backups, organized by date), so if one fails, I can always go back to an earlier one.
This reminds me of that backup simsecret. Terrifying stuff.

The timing is pretty good. I'm heading out of town in a couple of days, so the computer can just rest and wait for me to return.
All the crazy simmer hormones have our computer cycles syncing up. That makes sense.
(In RL, cycle syncing freaks me out. It made it so that my mother and I were at our craziest at the same time of the month, and that's not a good thing AT ALL.)

Computer: FAKE wood? Please...
Me: That's not my desk, so I have no choice in the matter.
Computer: Also, I need better hours. I work later AND get started early?
Me: It's flextime.

I seriously feel your pain in a big way, but maybe you could all just do some primal scream therapy together...

Thanks. I'm all about this Ripp icon now (but I do miss my sweet little Nervous too).
Your icon makes me feel better too. :D LOVE it!

The external hard drive was such a good purchase (and, as a bonus, it was on sale too).

To be honest, though, I gave myself beer instead.

[sigh] you're so lucky yours warned you. But they come in threes don't they... so my friends list just hit two..... [hides]

Yeah, your situation was worse. You've had some rotten luck with computers, haven't you? I hope your cd turns up eventually.
So many people are having computer issues lately... It's crazy.
