... and after all that installing, the game won't run.

Okay, I'm not going to freak out just yet, but when I click on the FT icon, I get this message:

Failed to enumerate any DirectX 9 compatible adapters in the system! (I just love the playful exclaimation point there. *eye roll*)

Please make sure you have a DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest manufacturer provided driver.

The application will now terminate.

By graphics adapter, they're referring to my graphics card, right? (Or am I way off?) That shouldn't have changed, since my card is still in there, and I did download the latest driver. Now, the computer has been reset to square one, and this graphics card was added later, so I wonder if I need to change the settings so it's recognized, maybe. I have no idea what I need to do. I'm also using a no-cd crack to avoid SecurRom, so I wonder if that's the problem. Ugh. I guess I need to do some research here, or make another tech. call.

If anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

You can download DirectX, so I'm thinking you might just need to re-download it. It's here.

I think it's a program like shockwave, where you need it to run certain programs. I'm pretty sure it's free and won't hurt your comp. I think I have it. :P

The only thing I can think of is a problem with the new driver, that happened to me- I had to go back to the driver I was using beforehand. :\

Good luck, I suck at this tech stuff, but I hope you get your game back. :]

I was thinking the Sims DVD had DirectX on it already. Maybe I'm wrong... hopefully I am and you can fix things up just by downloading Direct X separately.

If not, I was going to suggest that it's a secur-rom issue. I got the same error message with my Castaways disc on my other computer.

Hopefully it's not though, and it's easy to fix. *crosses fingers*

I've had something like that before, I was able to fix it by uninstalling FT and then reinstalling it.

Just make sure you remove your neighborhoods and saved sims before you do that so it doesn't delete them on you.

*crossing fingers and doing sims chant*

The only advice I had was you might need an older version of a driver (someone already mentioned that).

*please, please, please* (that's really what I chant, with fingers crossed, when I install new stuff--I also lovingly pat my cpu and tell him he's a good boy and I love him very much--have you tried that?)

what is a no cd-crack?

[identity profile] waywardgaze.livejournal.com 2008-06-29 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
I had the same problem when I installed Bon Voyage - it got to the point that the monitor would just go black without an error message, and I could only restart. That was a day or so before I started reading about the SecuRom issues, and figured then that the graphics card had just died...and bought a new one. Which the game also refused to work with. Urg! Best of luck with your backups!!

How do you do a no cd crack? I really want to play the new games without SecuRom...

Coincidence or not...?

Hmmm...I don't like the fact that shortly after I installed the mini-spore game on my computer my hard-drive kicked the bucket. I have a bad feeling that you're right and that SecuRom messed with our computers.

Damn EA bastards... >.>
