Strangetown extras: Off to college we go!

You'll get to see Jill and Buck in university in the next chapter, but I just got them set up there tonight, and I wanted to share a couple of pics right away. I thought I had enough willpower to keep it to myself until the update, but that sort of evaporated when the cutest thing happened autonomously, so you get a sneak preview.

That's right. The fish came too. *grin*

Buck got himself a flattering new haircut (or did he cut it himself?), and he's wearing one of my other favourite things about Kitchen and Bath: the argyle sweater! I have so much love for that outfit, and it's perfect for Buck. Just perfect.

The apartment that I picked just happened to be the perfect shade of purple to match Buck's stuff too. He loves it.

And here's Jill. I think she grew up cute. She's completed her funky new look with a striped jumper-type dress (with more green, of course) and some cool boots.

Hey, I can see Johnny, Ripp and Ophelia's apartment through the window! I can even kind of see that llama crossing road sign on the wall. That's a pretty high level of detail.

And this is what I just had to share with you: autonomous serenading! *heart melts* Buck is just too sweet. He gives me cavities.

I love Buck's nose! And you're right, it did grow lol.
When I moved my Buck to college, I literally gasped. Prior to moving him he had been swimming in the pool that my brother put into the Grunt's yard non stop and became thin. Then, he goes on to transition into a tight tank top and army pants! I was like, where did my cute little Buck go and how come he got replaced with this hottie?!

I love autonomous serenading. Know who does it all the time in my game? Tank!

He does it in mine, too! OMG I was shocked, SHOCKED! when I saw just how affectionate and romantic he really is! (He *never* rolled any affection wants beyond "talk to").

Random sim behaviour can be so... random. It amazes me.

[identity profile] xel-squirgle-ox.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
Tank is always rolling affection wants for his wife in my game. He loves her so much it's sickening. They are constantly making out in front of their kids and it really grosses them out. I love it, they're hilarious.

I think you get that with any couple that's in love and has at least a bolt or two for each other. If they have two bolts, and their needs are met, they spend all of their free time getting romantic with each other. It's so cute.

I love that embarrassed kids reaction. So cute.

[identity profile] ikichi.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. He rolled the want to marry the girl he slept with once in college, but never for the guy he'd been with forever and had 3 kids with (which lead to my infamous "Oh crap I think he's straight!" freakout). He rolls physical wants once he gets "warmed up" but he does lots of auto squeezing, kissing and flirting with his boyfriend.

"Oh crap I think he's straight!" *snicker* He's a closeted straight man, I guess.

D: But Tank and Johnny are my 2nd favorite couple in that hood! T_T

[identity profile] xel-squirgle-ox.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Tank and Johnny?! I thought I was bad with pairing him with Stella! Hehehehe. :P

It grows A LOT during this transition, but that's too be expected. Tank and Ripp have similar nose overhauls, but they start out a lot smaller, so it's less drastic.

Well, they have to grow up some time. :) And sometimes they grow up hot.

Tank makes me laugh. For someone as dead serious as he is, he's drawn to doing a lot of goofy things. It makes no sense. Not to mention the autonomous hit on he directed at Ophelia that time in my game. That was so random.

[identity profile] inkspottedtea.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Tank. I gave him a makeover in my game and whenever he goes somewhere on a community lot, EVERYONE THINKS OF HIM. They think of Tank more than Ripp, sometimes! I may have to start keeping a tally *g* *g* And idk why! He's not a Romance Sim in his first or second aspiration ... ! Clearly, he's just that awesome xD

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's normal enough. That's his popularity sim charisma. Like the swooning for romance sims, other sims always get thought bubbles about popularity sims when they are around. It's cute.

[identity profile] xel-squirgle-ox.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
Tank makes me laugh too! He makes the stupidest faces. And whenever he comes home from work in my game I always crack up... He's a dread pirate! I will have a ton of Tank spam in an update to come, because what happened to him is by far the silliest thing ever. Oh, and he does do a ton of goofy things. One time one of those strange people from Bon Voyage came to his house and kept bowing at him, and now he just HAS to do it to everyone he sees. The reaction they give him all the time is priceless. It's like "you're crazy, man".

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
The bowing thing is funny. Multicultural Tank. Multicultural dread pirate Tank. I'd never have imagined Tank doing that. :P He's quite different from my Tank, isn't he?

All those silly random things is why I can't just allow the autonomous actions of my sims to completely dictate the story, though. They're fun, and sometimes it works for the character, if they are particularly silly (like, I can let my Ripp get away with doing some of that stuff in the story), but all sims will just degenerate into a dirty joke telling goofball after a while. I really wish that they'd make it so that extremely serious sims would never do things like that.

I like how the personalities do dictate a lot of things like that, but it should be more extreme. It seems like they're putting a lot of effort in that in Sims 3, with those character traits. I'm looking forward to that element of it.

[identity profile] xel-squirgle-ox.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Usually when a Sim does all that multicultural crap it gets annoying, since once somebody does it then everybody else wants to do it too. But when it comes to Tank, I just let it happen because it's way too funny knowing how he's SUPPOSED to be.

I only made Tank be in the adventurer career track because that was the first option available when he looked in the newspaper to get a job, and I was desperate for money. But I'm glad he is one because he really rocks that pirate look! Lol, he's the kind of sim that I take to community lots to make him try on the most ridiculous outfits on him just so I could get a laugh.
With Tank and Frances, I kind of made them the total opposite of yours on purpose. They're like, the bizarre alternate reality versions.

Yeah... Funny how a post about Buck turned into a conversation about Tank. Yep, that's me for ya.

That's another reason why I decided that I really need to do a time skip in my story. Even though I love them to death, the personalities of the Maxis made sims have been done over and over again. With Sims born in game, the autonomous personalities really dictate how they would act in the story. And, with the Maxis sims fading into the background, I can let their hilarious autonomous selves shine through at times.

They do seem to all end up being goofballs after a while, but I like that. Makes the game fun and interesting when all of the sudden you see them doing something totally out of character.

I'm not sure what to think about the sims 3 yet. I'm still having so much fun with the sims 2! In all honesty, I'm sort of scared. I hope it won't be TOO different.

I like how different your Tank and Frances are from mine. It's like the Bizarro World version.

You're right. A lot of people have written those characters, so it might be refreshing to skip ahead to next generation, where you can create totally new characters, that just have the Maxis crowd as their history. It gives you more freedom. You can let the silly sim behaviour lead the way, if that's what's the most fun for you.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with Sims 3. I'm not ready to move on yet, but by the time it's ready, maybe I will be.

[identity profile] xel-squirgle-ox.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Bizzarro world is right! Though I have made Frances a bit less crazy after college, Tank is now showing how strange he can be. The loading picture of him and his family is hilarious, because he is surrounded by green.

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Pascal does it in mine.

ALL. THE. TIME.

Sheesh.

And when he's not doing that, he's kissing up the arm. And when he's not doing that, he's doing some other kind of grope action. Horniest sim I've ever seen. Seriously! I'm always like, "Can't you think of anything else to do?"

Hee.

[identity profile] xel-squirgle-ox.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Pascal is quite the affectionate fellow in mine too! Nervous is so much worse though. Pascal sticks to the cute things like kissing up arm, caressing, and serenading, while Nervous just goes in and makes out, smooches, and gooses. It's so weird considering his lack of outgoing points.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Having Nervous flirt seems really weird, but I've had that too. My first Nervous (is that like a toy, or something?) married one of the maids, and they had 3 bolts. They were always kissing all flirting.

I still wish they'd make things make more sense for the personality score. I'd like there to be more variety in how they interact.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds like you're paired him with someone he really likes. Like 2-3 bolts, maybe? *grin*

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. I've become quite adept at making a CAS that can have three bolts with all the Curious brothers (is that bad of me, lol?)

ext_122042: (Default)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
All at once? *snort* For just one CAS sim? Yeah, that's a little bad.

Sounds like it would cause some serious sibling rivalry.

Oooooooooooh yeaaaaaaah....

Oooh, you're naughty. I like it.

I use InSIM for turning off jealousy, but it has been (and will be) very useful for me. ;)
