Tag updates

I spent some time this morning changing/removing some outdated tags and generally updating my tags list, so I hope it is easier to navigate now for anyone that likes to explore livejournal pages via tags. (And who doesn't? It's useful!) I've also changed the tag display setting from cloud to list, since the teeny, tiny font was making it difficult to see any of the less popular tags. I was surprised some of them even existed at all (and thus the reason I changed or removed them). It was also just a large, unholy mess in general, so yeah...

I suppose I'm sort of glad that lack of access to my simming computer has pushed me to do some journal maintenance, because this is the sort I thing I would likely never get around to otherwise (once upon a time I would do things like this while goofing off at work, but I don't do that much anymore). The funny thing is, I really, really want to work on the Tomato Legacy or S,HWC stuff right now. It's the whole idea that I can't that makes me want to do it even more. *sigh* So typical. Maybe I'll channel that energy into making some outlines for upcoming chapters and doing some of the writing. Or maybe even finish all the chapter descriptions in the story directory? :P There's a couple of chapters that never ever did get descriptions.

Toooooootally write out some of the story while you can't! When the urge starts, TAKE IT BY THE HORNS :D And for the outlining chapters thing, the way I see it; when you're updating the newer chapters you'll probably get an urge to update the older ones, too, so I wouldn't worry about it.
And now you say about Journal Maintenance, I should really get onto using the tagging system because I just.. don't. [LOL]

I've started piecing together the next chapter (most sections had already been written) and writing for the one following that. So yeah, totally taking it by the horns! :)

Tags are pretty useful things. I often use them to find an old entry of someone else's. It sure beats combing through their entire archive.

I saw that you had updated your tags earlier and I became irrationally excited. I've always had trouble finding some of the more obscure posts; this is great.

Nice to hear that you have some inspiration. Sim interest really only hits me when I can't sim, too. I hope you'll have a simming computer to use soon, as I would love to see some STHWC, Tomato Legacy, pic spam, or whatever. :)

Wow, I'm surprised you noticed that before I mentioned it. You're quite observant! I think the really obscure stuff if probably under "side projects" now, but I think there are still things back in the archive that don't even have tags, so another (huge) job for me one day will be to go back and try to tag everything that isn't tagged or is just badly tagged right now. Maybe I should even have some kind of tag for site updates or maintenance, like this post.

I'm terrible for wanting to do things more when I can't do them. If I had access now, it'd probably be a lot harder to get into it. I think it's a good thing to have a break from any simming or even image editing for a while in that sense, because it'll make me more eager to get back at it.

I was started on the next Tomato Legacy update when the computer went down, but luckily I didn't lose much work and my screencaps are all safely stored on my external drive. I have enough shots for 3-4 episodes saved up, so I'm hoping to catch up on those as soon as I'm able to. Then I can get back to playing. After my graphics card died, the Tomato household was way to crazy to play with the in-game card. There's so much going on!

I know what you mean! Inspiration/enthusiasm always strikes me hardest when I have no way of acting on it.

That's a great idea with the tags; I'm gonna see if my layout allows for that.

Isn't that always the way? Inspiration can be so fickle. I used to get a lot of writing and things done as a form of procrastination. In some ways I'm sad I've traded that in for a better attention span and work habits (but not really).

I'm lucky I've been tagging my story updates pretty intensively from the beginning with the characters and locations. It's easy to rename those existing tags to be more organized now. I think it's a nice addition to having a story directory for those people who are only interested in reading chapters and bits and pieces involving specific characters.

Aaaaah I love cleaning up journals. It is time consuming and kind of a miserable process, but when it's finished and you have that gorgeous tag list... YES. YES.

I'm... a bit obsessive over my journal tags and format. Even the headers I use tend to be functional.

So. YAY FOR CLEAN UP! I think your tag list looks great.

I know you do. :) Your tags and organizational systems are always so well thought out. Mine can only aspire to your level of function. I don't alwys have the patience for it, but I do love a good project to freshen things up from time to time.

Thanks. ^_^ I think it's a lot better than it was, at the very least. People can find things now!
