Maxis Taste Dare No. 26

Is anyone else thinking about participating in Maxis Taste Dare No. 26: Second Chances? The idea of this one appeals to me, though I'm struggling with who to focus on. My recent playing of the entire uberhood has given pretty much everyone a chance, though I guess the point of the exercise would be to find something more to like in a character that you're not too fond of. So maybe Gunnar Roque? Haha. But disliking Gunnar is a fanon tradition, right? I sort of like him the way he is, in a love to hate sort of way.

I think part of what I'm struggling with is that some of my unfavourites actually get quite a lot of attention from other simmers, and I think this is a significant factor in my dislike of them. I honestly don't get it and I resist giving them any more of the spotlight. (Come on, admit it. I know I'm not alone in this.) Ajay Loner comes immediately to mind, with his boring Face One (or very slight variation, if you insist) and lack of storyline (beyond counting grains of sand for fun in his bio) and relationships, and yet he's pretty much universally adored in the fandom. I guess in the spirit of the dare, I should definitely give him a second third fourth chance. Or maybe I can keep digging for someone I truly ignore entirely. I'm sure there are others I'm not thinking of right now.

Then there's the issue of my computer refusing to start up at all, so playing is sort of out for the next little while, and I can't even access any of my files until I either get it repaired again (throwing good money at bad?) or the new computer arrives. I finally ordered a new one, but I need to wait a few weeks for it to get here.

How was it his lifestyle backfired on him again? He was cheating, right? Or maybe I'm confusing him with my own game, where both of the Travellers have had their moments of infidelity, but remain pretty secure in their marriage. Maybe they have some kind of don't ask, don't tell policy? :P

I know people who have official native status that have blond hair and blue eyes, actually, so it's possible. For the Curiouses, I always imagine Kitty is not native, but Glarn and Glabe are. As far as what native group they are, I feel it's sort of ambiguous. The sims universe isn't exactly the same as ours, so I view those cultures actually included in the game as more of a vague parallel.

I often put the Singles in that house, eve though it's not really big enough. They don't really have an ideal location to live in Strangetown.

Haha! No please, tell me more. :P I tend to like to blab away about my own preferences for those smae things, so it's fair game around here.

This made me laugh. It's how I feel about most premades that are template clones.

Chaz is one sim that seems to have potential, but I'm never really sure of what to do with him and he does sort of bleed into the other romance/waster/lazy ass male college sims. It's a common type floating through the various unis.

My personal choice would be William Williamson. I can never figure out what to do with him. He just seems so boring, especially compared to his roommates (Klara and Blossom).

I'm totally throwing out the bio on this one... I rolled for a mini challenge and got one for them to adopt 3 toddlers in one week.

Excellent choice! I feel pretty much the same about that guy. I always feel so "meh" about him, no matter how hard I try to make him interesting.

Haha! That should be interesting.

I'm all for trowing out the bio sometimes. As much as I like to take those clues and run with them, it's good to not get too tied down by them.

I like doing that with the Brokes. They're one of my favourite families to play, because I enjoy the challenge (tiny house, little money, lots of kids, one adult) and all the different directions you can take with them.

I think some of the problem with Jessica is that I don't really like playing single-sim-households very much. I did give her a business in my last BDC (which I didn't really post about), that was sort of fun. But I'm never really sure what to do with her.

The whole storyline between her and Armand is kind of poorly defined, I agree. I mean it's clear that he wanted a baby, she did not, and then she left, but what exactly happened between them? I'm never sure what to do with Armand either, to be honest. I had him adopt another kid once, though (Chandler Platz, in fact). I think I like that idea more than pairing him up again. I've never liked him with either of the Cordial sisters, he seems far too dull and normal for them.

I think one of the reasons I like the Burbs a lot is their kind of non-standard setup, with her as the Fortune sim, him the Family sim, and nothing really being said about either of their wishes or lack thereof for more kids. It's the same setup as with Armand/Jessica and the Aspirs, but it leaves you more free to interpret their situation yourself. Then again, that's the great thing about the base game character bios focusing more on little details about the sims' personalities (Jennifer likes being fashionable, John enjoys gardening) rather than telling you about their goals in life. (Victor wants kids, Elizabeth wants a career.)

Their plane crashed and he got himself and his family stranded on an island. :) Alexandra's island, as it so happens. And Trisha is NOT happy about it...

Previously I've had him cheat, or Trisha cheat, or both cheat, and sometimes break up. The first time I played them in the old megahood I think I drowned Trent in a pool... after he had a really ugly kid with Brandi Broke. I did a lot of silly things in that megahood. :P

Interesting. But yeah, I agree about Kitty and Glarn (and Glabe :)). I don't really do much with different cultures in the game, beyond names and, well, Takemizu Village. I kind of see sims as not being as concerned with these things as us humans are, just like they're (mostly) less sexist.

There really isn't a good place for the Singles in Strangetown, no. I've had to remodel that house a lot in order to fit them in there, but it's doable. I once built four, small bedrooms - two on each side - then put the kitchen in one of the front "corners", the bathroom in the other, and the living and dining area in the middle, with a ladder going up to the roof. Very little space to move around, but it worked. :)

Haha. Well... I think I'll leave the house preferences for another time, I feel like I'm already rambling on too much. :)

Yeah, a lot of the students are already kind of bland, mainly due to there being so MANY of them, I think. When they're a template clone, they don't even have an interesting appearance going for them.

I thought I was alone in my disdain for Ajay. He's cute, so hating him is a little out of the ordinary for me (I usually only hate ugly Sims), and one of the only Indian Sims in the game, which makes me feel a little racist, but I can't help it. He's so utterly bland. When I saw everyone turning him into an Intelligence man to meet his LTW, it seemed so out of character, but then, everything you can do with him is out of character, because he has none. He's certainly not a badass private eye/SCIA agent in my eyes.
