Sim Story Library

Hey all! You should check out [livejournal.com profile] simstorylibrary, if you haven't already. It's goal is to become a comprehensive listing of sim stories, with a description and summary of each, and a place for reader reviews and critique. It's just getting started, but you should check it out and post your story info if you've ever written a sims story (I'm not entirely sure if they accept discontinued unfinished works, but I hope so, since I can count on one hand the number of sims stories I've read and loved that were actually completed... maybe even just one finger. ETA: They do! ^_^), and leave a review if you're a reader. If participation is good, this should be a great reference for finding sim story content.

On that note, I plan to post an entry for Strangetown, Here We Come, but I was wondering about the genre(s) I should list. I tend to think it leans more towards drama than comedy, but I'm curious to hear what others think, because one is not always the best judge of one's own work. It's a bit of an awkward blend of the two, I think. I could go with comedy-drama, but that also seems too heavy on the comedy end. Any thoughts? I'm also thinking that romance (maybe, because that's a very specific genre), family saga, and serial might also apply as genres. I'd love to hear what others who have read the story think.

Ooo, I didn't know about that community yet! Thank you for bringing it to my attention. :) Looks like some good stories are in there.

I think if I had to pick an overall genre for S,HwC, I would pick drama... just because drama can have a bit of everything in it. Romance, comedy... all of those things can fit into a drama. But yes, serial would fit too.

Hmm... I might put To Fear the Dawn in there, but I hesitate because it's a vampire story. And even though it was written long before the current vampire "rage" (ahem... Twilight... ) which I can prove by the dates it was posted on TSR... I still think people will think I copied the idea from Twilight. :(

You should definitely post To Fear The Dawn! And your other stories, too. I'm not sure how one would go about posting for multiple stories like that, but you should have your work listed there, for sure.

Thanks for the feedback. I do think drama is what seems most relevant and I do tend to choose that when I advertise on simstorytellers and such. Serial also works well for me, because so much of what the story is is a result of it being serialized, changing as time goes on and I react to the gameplay and characters.

Thanks for clarifying that. I was thinking about some of my own old favourites and I don't know many that were actually completed, and it would be a shame not to list them. They can always be posted as "discontinued" so that new readers know what they're getting into.

Now, to contact some of these long lost writers to see if they'd consider posting their work. Or maybe they'd let me post on their behalf?

Sure, no worries. I was thinking more about listing genres in the story description post than tags, but I'll be sure to let you know if I need one that isn't listed.

Drama would be the first thing that comes to mind, though "dramedy" might work too. I agree that family saga and serial work. You're right that "romance" might bring the wrong thing to mind; the kind of romance in your story would usually just be under the "drama" tag in RL, though I wouldn't find it out of place if you used that tag (I still classified mine as such.)

*nods* I think drama is the way to go. It does have some pretty silly moments, but the overall feel of the story is more serious. I do enjoy heaping on the drama.

That's what I was thinking about romance as a genre, too. There's a lot of romance happening in the story, but it's not really "a romance" in that sense. You used it for your story? I can see how it would work more in your case, because that's a key plot in your story.

You're welcome! I'm glad to pass on the info about such a useful sim story resource.
